Honduras is ruled by a stable authoritarian political system in which the state is subjected to strict control by the president, says a 10-year study conducted by the Latin America Public Opinion Project of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. In Honduras, the political opposition has only restricted space in which it cannot challenge the present system. According to the analysts, the population has confidence in local governments but do not have trust in the national political system, which bans criticism and promises security.
