New EU rule to enforce driving bans across the bloc for serious offences

The European Parliament approved changes to legislation to ensure that reckless drivers are disqualified across the entire bloc.

00:00If a driver gets their driving license revoked in one EU country, it's automatically invalidated in all 26 others.
00:07This is one of the new measures approved on Tuesday by the European Parliament.
00:12It intends to stop reckless drivers from continuing to drive after having committed major traffic offenses,
00:18such as excessive speeding and driving under the influence.
00:23Lawmakers also approved a new form of permits in digital driver's licenses.
00:28It's poised to become the main form of documentation in the block and will be accessible via smartphones.
00:3417-year-olds will also be able to get behind the wheel, as the block approved plans to allow them to obtain provisional licenses,
00:42so long as they are accompanied by an experienced driver, until they turn 18.
00:47The new rules, confirmed on the EU level, are expected to come into force within three years, pending approval at the national level.
00:54They aim to enhance road safety as the EU looks two inch closer to its goal of halving road deaths by 2030.
