Sarah Quigley initially came to Germany on a one year writing scholarship in 2000. The author arrived with no German and little knowledge of Germany but was so enchanted by Berlin she decided to stay on in the city. Her acclaimed novel The Conductor combines her twin passions for writing and music. It's based on the story of how Dimitri Shostakovich’s composed his 7th symphony during one of the major battles of World War Two.
