00:00At CHG Meridian's massive Frankfurt facility, one million IT devices are being refurbished every year.
00:08Most of them previously rented or leased by large companies and now two to five years old.
00:15They're inspected and cleaned. On average, 94% are in good condition and can be reused.
00:23Data, of course, is a sensitive issue. It's erased as the very first step.
00:28Employees then document any external damage, after which the internal hardware is tested.
00:34No need to even open the devices.
00:36In a recent survey, digital association Bitkom found that 16% of companies are now using so-called refurbished IT.
00:45The growth potential is considered significant.
00:49Like here at Umweltruck in Berlin, the printing company is fully committed to sustainable production.
00:55It uses environmentally friendly inks and papers and refurbished IT equipment in the offices.
01:02In the end, we're happy because we not only operate sustainably, but also because it's cost-effective.
01:10These refurbished items are also less expensive than purchasing new ones.
01:14Companies can save up to 50% on acquisition costs, says the refurbisher.
01:19For Umweltruck, the switch pays off in another way too.
01:23Their customers are also pleased.
