Ex-Guatemalan police chief found guilty in burning of Spanish Embassy

Former Guatemalan police chief Pedro Garcia Arredondo was found guilty Monday of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and crimes against humanity for his role in the 1980 burning of the Spanish Embassy in Guatemala City, which left 37 dead, most of them indigenous peasants. Garcia was sentenced to 90 years in prison. Many Guatemalans see the case and the verdict as a step toward justice in addressing crimes committed by the military dictatorship. teleSUR
