00:02Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, please put your hands together and welcome to the stage, John Simm, Mira Sorvino,
00:08James Frayn, and Glenn Morgan!
00:20And all the way around, and all the way around, keep it going!
00:23Oh, you want a little selfie action, don't you?
00:28Over to the table and through the woods.
00:33Oh, you have the power.
00:34You want to do anything? Am I on?
00:36We want to do a selfie with you guys in the background.
00:40And so we're going to go here and turn our backs on you, and you're going to freak out.
00:47But like a proper freak out. Let's not hold back, kids.
01:04Are you crazy?
01:06Are you crazy?
01:14We did it!
01:20She was wonderful to work with. She was a breath of fresh air. She was, every time we saw her
01:24on set, she was just, she's just wonderful.
01:27And you'll see, you'll see her performance when it comes out. But to work with her was nothing but joy.
01:32She was, she was fabulous.
01:34She would act with these guys. She's never, you know, she played Little Alice in Once Upon a Time in
01:42Wonderland, two episodes. Never in a school play, you know, never played Mrs. Claus in the pageant. And, um, she's
01:52just there with these guys.
01:52And then at lunch, she worked in the catering truck.
01:59Whether he was in a coma or gone mad or...
02:02What?
02:06They hinted that it was, it was the coma. But they didn't tell me for definite. So I didn't, I
02:12couldn't play it until I needed to and until I needed to be in the hotel room. Sorry, the hospital
02:17room waking up.
02:17I wasn't really sure either. So I think they did that on purpose. Which is a, I think it's a
02:23good idea.
02:24Thank you again for your wonderful work.
02:26Oh, bless you. Thank you very much.
02:27Hey, what, you should tell them the last night's elevator story.
02:32What?
02:33Which one?
02:34About the guy that said you were...
02:35There are so many elevator stories.
02:39Last night's.
02:40He gets in the elevator and, you know, he's in the elevator. And, um, you know, there's a lot of
02:45robots and stuff in there and stuff. And then...
02:48Yeah, Chewbacca.
02:49Yeah.
02:50Yeah, every floor, someone got on, like, robot and then Chewbacca and then some alien and eventually...
02:55And everybody was drunk and it was very late. And I was thinking, am I going to get away with
02:59this? It's fine.
02:59And then the last people that got in stared at me for a while and went, you know, you look
03:02exactly like the master of the doctor.
03:07And I just went, yeah, I get that a lot and left immediately.
03:10And that's good.
03:19Well, all of it, really. I read the book, which I loved. And I met up with Julie Gardner, who's
03:25a friend of mine.
03:26And she invited me over to, you know, be in it. And she told me the story of it.
03:30She told me who they were thinking of casting. And it was just the whole thing, the whole package.
03:36I've never played an American. It was a new challenge. You know, I've done quite a lot in England.
03:40And kind of, I'm not treading water, but I was thinking, you know, something new would be great.
03:45And just then she offered this hand across the water and I was really happy to take it.
03:50So it was everything. I mean, but mainly the script, mainly always the script.
03:56And, you know, it's just such a brilliant script. And so, yeah, it was that.
04:07Oh, it's just something I've got to deal with. I mean, you know, it's a great problem to have, being
04:11busy.
04:11So the new accent work was a new challenge. And, you know, every job needs some kind of new challenge
04:17to make it interesting.
04:19So it didn't really affect it. I mean, you know, I've been doing it a long time.
04:23You know, I'm not great with traveling a lot and being away, but I seem to do both quite a
04:28bit.
04:29And that's fine. But, you know, the family can come out and it's all good.
04:32It's, yeah, it didn't affect it really at all.
04:34I mean, it was, it was, I was doing this and The Village, the show in England.
04:38I was doing series two of The Village at the same time.
04:41Never again. That was, that was full on.
04:44But, you know, like I say, great problem to have.
04:55I don't know. I don't know if it's a different technique.
04:59You just sort of adjust and deal with whatever you're working with.
05:03And she was so, she's got such raw talent.
05:07I think she's so talented and it's just bursting out of her, you know.
05:11So it was, it was, it was, I don't think we had to change in any way to act with
05:16her.
05:16She was just a joy to work with. Millie Brown, she was wonderful.
05:24Millie Brown was there. Millie Brown was there to, you know, puncture all the seriousness.
05:31But no, funnily enough, usually when it's a very heavy subject matter,
05:35and I've done quite a lot of heavy subject matters, it's usually a really fun set.
05:40It's really weird, you know.
05:41And if you're doing a comedy, it's usually a nightmare to film.
05:45But yeah, we had, we had a lot of fun. It was great.
05:48It was very laid back and, you know, because of the subject matter, you know,
05:52if we didn't have fun, we'd be so depressed for the rest of the day.
05:56So it was, it was great. It was great fun to do.
06:02You know, apart from the weather, it's exactly the same.
06:06You work the same, you know, hours, and you concentrate the same, and you research the same.
06:11It's, it's filming. Yeah. Not, not much difference.
06:16Just a lot more teeth.
06:17A lot more teeth, bigger budgets, you know, but yeah.
06:21Better craft service. Better teeth, did you say?
06:24Well, craft service is a big difference.
06:26I think there is a, there is better teeth generally on Americans.
06:28Oh, there's better teeth.
06:35So, long story short now, it's, it's very long.
06:38We get, we get to the set of intruders, and somehow I start following him on Twitter,
06:44and then I kind of reached out to him.
06:46I don't know why, I don't know how it came up.
06:48But we, Glenn and I were talking, and I was like, you know, maybe,
06:53should we, should we ask Shatner if he'd want to be involved in the show maybe next year?
06:56And so I, like, tweeted something to that effect, and he's like,
06:58wait, intruders, is that the show with John Sim on it?
07:02The one who wants to kick my ass?
07:08And, uh, and I, I said, oh, well, yes, he is our leading man.
07:12Uh, I was not aware of any unsavory history between the two of you.
07:15And apparently, there was some kind of crazy scandal about Doctor Who,
07:20and someone suggesting that Shatner should play the master at some point,
07:24and then the showrunner saying that John Sim will kick your ass.
07:27And, and so, so, you know, so, but anyway, then I expressed,
07:31I expressed your undying respect and admiration for Mr. Shatner,
07:34and I think everything's fine now, but I don't know your perspective on the time.
07:38And, uh, we had a Twitter-off.
07:42But I was like, no, no, I was on my knees on Twitter.
07:46No, my God, no, I don't want to kick your ass.
07:49Captain Kirk.
07:52Geez, no, it was the, um, the, the, the people from Doctor Who said something in the press.
07:58It was all the press, it was nothing, it was nonsense, really.
08:01Yes, well, I...
08:02It was very surreal, having a Twitter-off with Shatner.
08:10Um, mine was, um, James Dean's red jacket in Rebel Without a Cause.
08:19That was it, that was gone.
08:21When he was on the floor playing with that toy monkey at the beginning,
08:24that was it, it was over, everything else was over,
08:27and I wanted to become an actor.
08:28That and Billy Lyre with Tom Courtney and Julie Christie.
08:32Um, yeah, they were mine.
08:38Awesome.
08:39I had a nerdy moment with David's soul once.
08:42I was a kid.
08:43I was obsessed with...
08:44You mean, you're meaning from Starsky and Hutch?
08:46Yeah, I was obsessed with Starsky and Hutch as a kid.
08:48And, um, many years ago, and I was at a party, and I was a little bit drunk,
08:52and, um, he was there, and he walked past me, and I thought,
08:54oh, my God, he's Hutch.
08:56I've gotta say something.
08:57He's wanna...
08:58What do I say?
08:59So I thought, what am I gonna say?
09:00So I went up, and I tapped him on the shoulder, and he turned around,
09:02and I said, uh, David, I said, every kid in every street,
09:06in every town in this country, we all played Starsky and Hutch,
09:09and I was always Hutch because I had blonde hair.
09:12And that was my thing.
09:13I thought that was pretty good.
09:15And he looked at me, and he, uh, he said, you know what?
09:18And he sort of playfully punched me on the chin,
09:20and he said, I was always Hutch, too.
09:27Yeah!
