05:43the Canadian Olympic Committee's Chief Sport Officer,
05:45to kick off this figure skating team announcement
05:47for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
05:58Wow, bonsoir tout le monde.
06:00That's always one of the best parts of the job, honestly.
06:04This is quite something.
06:06It's really fun to welcome you to the official announcement
06:10of the Milano Cortina 2026.
06:1426 days before the opening ceremony,
06:18only five days for the team behind the team.
06:20So we have people from our team leaving upcoming Friday,
06:24so they'll tell you how close it is.
06:28Let's reflect a bit how important this moment is.
06:32Such a special moment.
06:33Being named on the team for the first time or for a few times,
06:38it's always something so special.
06:40You deserve it, but it's also a privilege.
06:45It becomes larger than you.
06:47Like, it's a good team.
06:48It's quite something.
06:50It's nation-building.
06:51This is quite a moment.
06:52La chance de partager ce moment avec vos proches aussi.
06:58Just take a minute.
06:59Look around.
07:00Turn around.
07:00Look at the room.
07:01That's the moment of everyone.
07:07And that's what we're going to have to go through.
07:10This is fantastic with Cortina Milano.
07:13Family and friends, they're back.
07:15The one that were there in Beijing, get ready.
07:18That's going to be like,
07:19It's going to get you, honestly.
07:23Like, I'm not an athlete.
07:25I'm not anymore.
07:26But in Paris, that's something that hit me, honestly.
07:30Think of that.
07:31Take time to think of this when you get there.
07:33It's almost like, you know,
07:35how we turn the page quickly on things.
07:36And it was a tough ride in Beijing.
07:39And so now to come back with having everyone around,
07:42take a moment for that.
07:44Get ready for that.
07:46Comparing Milano and Paris.
07:49Paris was fantastic.
07:51I'm sure you were on the edge of your couch
07:53or wherever you were watching the games.
07:55It was so beautiful.
07:57C'était poétique.
07:58Les jeux de Paris étaient incroyables.
07:59It's going to be the same in Cortina Milano.
08:01It's so beautiful.
08:02It's going to be incredible.
08:04Plus, having the crowd back.
08:05And these games, both games,
08:08are the games of the future.
08:11Paris was the first game of the new generation.
08:13We saw it with the iconic venues and everything.
08:16Cortina Milano was the same thing.
08:1813 of the 14 venues are temporary venues.
08:21It's more ecologique, écosystème.
08:24Ça, c'est vraiment des pluss dans les jeux.
08:27L'equity.
08:2847 participants are women.
08:30This is great, too.
08:31You look at data and you go back in years of games.
08:34This is great.
08:36And all the sustainability.
08:39And the new geographic.
08:40That's a reality.
08:41You guys will be in your bubble.
08:43You'll be in Milan.
08:44But the six cluster and everything to really have a team.
08:47Canada.
08:47So we prepared stuff behind the scene for you.
08:51Let's go back to ice dancing now.
08:53Just a few personal anecdotes.
08:57Like, they put this.
08:58They prepare a note and they're like, it goes a long way for me personally.
09:02I was, in the 90s, one of the founders of Sport Rétudes au Québec.
09:06I founded the Trois-Rivières.
09:09There's even a ring out there.
09:11I happened to be a school director.
09:13I was in the hiring process of someone little known in your world, Manon Perron, Joanie Rochette,
09:19Marianne Dubuc, and always so impressed.
09:222018.
09:242014, my first game.
09:26C'était mon coup de cœur, le patinage artistique.
09:282018, between laugh and emotion, I laughed with Tess and Scott behind the scene, hiding
09:36her boots in my jacket so she doesn't get blistered.
09:39And by the time she walks with the flag, we put the right boots on.
09:43And then, and seeing her practicing and Scott rolling his eyes, and practicing so much just
09:48to wave the flag.
09:50And then my special moment by myself with eyes full of water was Patrick Chang's last skate.
09:58Skating.
10:00Your sport is so beautiful.
10:02And if I put one word to this for me, it's courage.
10:06Me, it was such a learning over those years.
10:10When you get on that ring, I was looking at this this afternoon.
10:12You guys are so courageux, courageux.
10:16It's, it's, it's amazing.
10:18Today, each team member, you will receive the Team Canada jacket.
10:22That's the moment.
10:23You're already dressed with the pants.
10:25It might be thick, but you're going to like them in the cold a little bit.
10:29And I'm sure you have good, uh, pour les coups de souris, pour faire les barres.
10:32That's a, that jacket you will get.
10:35There's the Canada sign behind with all the lines representing the territory and the provinces
10:40and making feeling that you've got the full country behind you.
10:45That's truly symbolic but important.
10:47And inside the jacket, also, you have a manifesto, just specially for you guys.
10:52So, um, that's, uh, that's another great moment.
10:56It's such an honour to be here with you, with this team that will create memories and emotion
11:03for the games.
11:04And you truly will.
11:05And with that, I will introduce Debra Armstrong, the Chief Executive for Skate Canada.
11:24Uh, thank you, Eric, very much.
11:26Wow, what a pleasure to be here with you tonight.
11:28Today is a proud moment for Skate Canada and for our athletes and for everyone who has
11:35supported them on this journey.
11:37Qualifying for an Olympic Winter Games begins long before a team is named.
11:42Each of you, and I can look at all of our team in front of me now, you played a critical
11:46role in earning Canada's 12 spots for Milano Cortina through your remarkable performances
11:52on the world stage.
11:54You carried the Maple Leaf with pride, consistency, and determination.
11:58And you delivered when it mattered most.
12:08Throughout the season, we saw you continue to push yourselves through setbacks, injuries,
12:15and immense pressure.
12:18That resilience was on full display this week at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships
12:24When the stakes were the highest and the spotlight the brightest, you rose to the occasion and
12:31showed that you are ready for the Olympic Games.
12:34Congratulations to each of you.
12:49We cannot wait to watch you represent Canada on the world's biggest stage.
12:53So I'd now like to invite Skate Canada President Karen Butcher to say a few words.
13:03Thank you, Deborah.
13:04I'm incredibly happy to be here today to celebrate this huge milestone.
13:08Being named to an Olympic team is one of the highest honours in sport.
13:12It reflects trust in your preparation, your performances, and your ability to represent our country with integrity
13:19and pride.
13:20This selection recognizes not just what you've achieved, but who you are as athletes and as
13:26ambassadors for Canadian skating.
13:28I would also like to thank the coaches, choreographers, support staff, families, and friends who have
13:34accompanied you throughout this journey.
13:36No Olympic journey is taken alone, and you have all contributed to making this moment possible.
13:43Les Jeux Olympiques d'hiver occupent une place très spéciale dans l'histoire de notre sport et notre pays.
13:49As you know, figure skating is one of Canada's most successful Olympic sports at the Olympic Winter Games,
13:55with a total of 29 Olympic medals, including six gold.
14:00That remarkable legacy has been built by generations of athletes who have defined excellence
14:06on the world stage.
14:07As we look ahead to Molata Cortina 2026, I am thrilled to see this team carry that tradition forward.
14:15We believe in your preparation and your ability to perform at the highest level of sport.
