00:00This is a production of the U.S. Department of Education.
08:24as we see Nexus, and they'll skate their short program.
08:54It's raining, it's pouring, my love life is boring me to tears, after all these years.
09:11No sunshine, no moonlight, no start-up, no sad romance, we don't stand on stage.
09:27I always dreamed I'd find the perfect lover, but he turned out to be like every other man, a love, a love too.
09:57Yeah.
10:09If you've had enough, don't hold up, if it's not, don't do it.
10:16If you have your bill, get the check, have the bill, you can't do it.
10:22Tell him to just get out, let the first man talk about.
10:31Back his raincoat, show him out.
10:34Just look him in the eye and simply shout.
10:39If you've had enough, if it's not, if it's not, I can't go on, I can't go on, no wonder.
10:48If it's not, if it's not, if it's not, I won't hear my, I won't hear my best go down.
10:57Goodbye, mister. Goodbye, goodbye, mister.
11:02I won't hear my sleep.
11:50A big smile from Nexus Senior from Burlingo.
11:57I watched that program put me in, Coach.
12:00That looks so much fun out there.
12:08To the disco and just the difference in their program.
12:12Starts off and almost sultry with Barbara.
12:15And then it turns into a party on the ice.
12:20Here we are looking at replays of the program.
12:44So much artistry and beauty here.
12:47Leaning off axis.
12:48I love the weighted feel to their movements.
12:52Real full commitment to each step that is choreographed.
12:57Beautiful flow through their field moves.
12:59Great flexibility in unison.
13:02Wonderful thing with the change of position.
13:05Look how close that entry is going into their angle intersection.
13:13No room for error on the timing there.
13:16Really nicely done.
13:19Here we are looking at one of their eight different steps that is required in the no-hold element.
13:24We saw the loop turn there.
13:26Great series of turns.
13:30This entry into the synchronized spin element.
13:34They do a pair knee drag for their unexpected entry.
13:38And right into that pair spin.
13:42Cartwheel here for excitement.
13:46Thrill value.
13:47Throwing in some exciting innovations.
13:51Final element here.
13:52Their travel element.
13:53See the circle into the wheel.
13:57They are in a two-spoke formation.
14:00They go into the three-spoke.
14:01That is for their change of configuration.
14:05Very strong skate for Nexus Senior.
14:07Well, the unison and the power and speed and particularly the acceleration that all of these skaters do at the same time is extraordinary.
14:20You just look at it and say, well, isn't that nice?
14:22But think of aligning so many people up at the same time to skate at the same speed so closely together.
14:28Let's take a look at the short program scores for Nexus 78.48.
14:32Wow.
14:34They are the first team out and they look pretty happy with that score.
14:37They look really happy with that score.
14:39Ten point improvement from their last skate.
14:41Lots to be happy about there.
14:42That was delightful.
14:46Our next team, representing Quebec, Nova.
14:50Another short program this season is skating to Still Loving You by the Scorpions.
14:56Set to a classic rock ballad.
14:59It's both timeless and original.
15:01Now, this program is designed as a love song rather than a rock program.
15:06It highlights emotion, connection, and expression.
15:10You'll notice they get right into the music as soon as the program starts and they don't miss a beat.
15:18Representing Quebec, Nova.
15:25This team has, from the ages of 17 to 27 years old,
15:31quite the gap, but watch how they come together as one unit in this program.
16:01Time, and it's time to win, win your love again.
16:12I win now.
16:16I win now.
16:31Fight, baby, fight, to win, make your love again.
16:50I win now.
16:53I win now.
16:55Love, love, love, love, love.
17:03Just enjoy it every part of me.
17:06I will, I will.
17:10I will.
17:11I will.
17:16I win now.
17:17in your hands
17:19all the way from the start
17:23I would try to change
17:27things that can't
17:29our love
17:30Yes I've heard
17:34your price
17:34and all what you've been
17:37from
17:38You should give me a chance
17:41This can't be the end
17:44I'm still loving you
17:47I'm still loving you
17:56I'm still loving you
18:07I'm still loving you
18:12I'm still loving you
18:17I'm still loving you
18:31I'm still loving you
18:32I'm still loving you
18:46Quebec with a passionate love ballad I found if I had to put that performance
18:54into one word it would be moody and gritty like they just they were you know
19:00off-center in their skating and they really every movement was influenced by
19:05that ballad that they skated to such brilliant choreography to be able to
19:10bring that feeling and weave it into their whole program well we were
19:13mentioning off-air how little difference there is amongst these teams because
19:17they're all so good that you know what is the what's the difference of course
19:22that would be left up to the judges or one little small error error so you know
19:27it's just remarkable what these teams are able to do yes it's a very tight race
19:34these teams are all so remarkable and they're choreographers that build the
19:39program that build the structure so brilliant I mean there's so many
19:43obviously required technical elements but when you can find a way to make that
19:47creative in a way that is not being done by other teams or maybe has never been
19:51seen before that really makes me go wow
19:54here they are right into the theme from the first note making you feel like you
20:04are watching a show not just a skating routine beautiful flexibility top marks
20:10for those positions the Bielmans the spirals half the team doing each awesome
20:16awesome synchronized spin they go right from the pair spin into a variation single
20:22spin and pair spins but they did a death spiral going into those which is so hard so
20:27risky beautifully executed I found in this program there's always so much to look at and
20:35so much to see here we're looking at their traveling element the four spoke with the change of
20:39position within the lines for added difficulty their next element was their angle intersection so
20:46this is their setup you see non-stop action you don't know that an angle intersection is coming
20:51until they form the two lines coming up here so risky to get that hold right before going through
21:00they have to intersect with hands above head on one foot doing two rotations full marks awarded there
21:06last element here was their no hold block it looks like they were awarded a step three
21:11they would have been going for a step four as we know for these top teams it really comes down to
21:18the execution on the day the technical score the grade of execution marks that they can collect on
21:23each element there's no room for error the team here ranges in age from 17 to 27 years old
21:34there's a pair of sisters on the team I don't know if you can pick them out but let's listen for the
21:39scores for the program cool 77.07 and that'll put Nova currently into second place see how close that
21:51is very very close just over a point point and a half difference in one level and one element makes
22:00all the difference not final though these elements will continue to be improved for the future well our
22:09next team on the ice the music is set to Céline Dion's cover in LMO this program is a heartfelt tribute to
22:21love's enduring power my program was inspired by Céline Dion's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics
22:29Olympics and it expresses a vow that even in loss love remains an eternal connection
22:34the sea blue
23:00Sur nous peut s'épondrer
23:05Et la terre peut bien s'écrouler
23:12Ne m'importe si tu m'invites
23:20Je me fous du monde entier
23:25Tant que l'amour inondera mes matins
23:33Tant que mon corps frémira sous tes mains
23:40Et ma part n'est pas rêvée
23:47Mon amour, puisque tu es
23:53J'irai jusqu'au bout du monde
24:01Je me ferai teindre en blonde
24:04Si tu veux le demander
24:06On peut bien dire de moi
24:11Je ferai m'attendre de toi
24:13Si tu veux le demander
24:19Si un jour la vie t'arrache à moi
24:30Si tu m'aimes
24:33Que tu sois loin de moi
24:37Que ma part
24:40Si tu m'aimes
24:43Mon amour
24:47Crois-tu franchement ?
24:54Dieu réunisse
25:03Dieu réunisse
25:23Qui j'ai fait
25:31Du Québec, les suprêmes
25:43Les suprêmes
25:48Les suprêmes
25:49Skating to a program that feels like
25:51It was made specifically for them
25:53They skated so beautifully to that piece of music
25:57So much emotion
25:58And just grace throughout the whole program
26:01Well there's such a connection with Celine Dion in Quebec
26:06And that song and the Olympic Games
26:08And so many aspects that went into this program
26:13To make it emotional for the athlete of course
26:15Also for the viewer very much so
26:17But it is also a sport
26:19And so there are three elements out of five here
26:22Under review by the technical panel
26:24Lisa
26:24And that will be the ultimate decider
26:27Of how the points fall tonight
26:29But as far as the viewers go
26:32And the performance
26:33It was a stunning program
26:34Such beautiful and innovative choreography
26:38I loved how the beginning of the program
26:40Started soft
26:41Alongside the softness of the music
26:43And as the music built in speed
26:45And power and strength
26:46So did the speed we saw on the ice
26:48A beautiful reflection of the song
26:50That they're skating to
26:51And just looking at how tight the formations are
26:57The wonderful unison
26:58Not just in timing
26:59But in positions
27:00That is so hard to do
27:01So much work has gone into
27:05Building this program for this team
27:08Here they are with the entry into their
27:13I think it was their whip intersection
27:15Or was it the traveling element
27:16Either way
27:17They did a great job
27:18Because with the entry variation
27:19You're not supposed to see it happening
27:21And there was no semblance
27:24That that was going into an intersection
27:26Here we are with their traveling element
27:28The wheel
27:29Nice flying position
27:32For the unexpected entry
27:33Into their pair spin
27:34So difficult to do
27:36Risky
27:37But hopefully rewarded
27:39It was really nicely done
27:40This is the entry into their angle intersection
27:43Again, so many pieces
27:45Have to fall together
27:46With perfect timing
27:47To make that element connect
27:49Right before
27:50The corridor closes
27:52And they intersect through
27:53Stunning
27:56Love this placement of the field moves
27:59On the music
27:59It felt like they were flying
28:01Really nice flexibility there
28:03And we mentioned
28:06That their elements were under review
28:08It looks like they've all come in
28:09With top marks
28:11So we will see how this falls
28:12It'll come down to their grade of execution marks
28:14And their program component scores
28:16Here are the scores for the short program
28:19For Les Zeprem
28:20We're anxiously waiting
28:22It's an 81.44
28:24That is first to the short program
28:27And you can see
28:28Well, they're happy with that
28:29Maybe expecting more
28:30From a number perspective
28:32But they're in first
28:33Yeah
28:33They should be happy with the score
28:36I picked up on the expression there too
28:39Oh yeah, that's not bad
28:40Yeah, yeah
28:41They're going
28:41Okay
28:41Sounds we're in first
28:42But much to build on there
28:45It's a beautiful piece of music
28:47It means a lot to these athletes
28:49To Canada
28:50To the province of Quebec as well
28:52And it's a wonderful vehicle
28:55So that concludes our coverage
28:57Of the senior synchronized skating
28:59Short program
29:01Of course
29:01As we wait for the results
29:03There they are
29:03Les Zeprem, Nexus and Nova
29:05But much can happen
29:06You know
29:07You've got a lot of skaters on the ice
29:08In the free program
29:09So things can switch
29:11That's for sure
29:12Particularly between Nexus and Nova
29:13Just over a point
29:15So tomorrow
29:18And we will have
29:20The junior synchronized skating
29:22Free program
29:22The senior men's short program
29:24Senior events start tomorrow
29:25That is going to be exciting
29:27The senior synchro free program
29:28The senior pair short
29:30And then the victory ceremony
