Awareness is the ability to see things how they are; it is to be completely conscious of our behavior, our choices and our emotional state. In order to achieve success, it is necessary for us to become fully aware of where we are, how we got here and what we need to do in order to achieve what we desire. It is extremely important to see our situation as it is, to be completely honest with ourselves. This is the only way we can make the necessary adjustments that will lead us to our destination.

The good, the bad and the ugly is a simple technique that will allow you to see and find areas of your life that you need to work on, at the same time it will allow you to acknowledge your natural talents, eliminating the bad habits in your life

1) Take a piece of paper and write 3 headings and label them as follows: The good, the bad and the ugly respectively.

2) Under the heading "The good": write every positive thing, action or decision you have taken that has allowed you to be where you are today. For example: "Daily exercise has been a great habit which has allowed me to stay healthy and has improved my energy level". or: "Quitting my job to start my small business has created a very positive impact in my life".

3) Under the heading "The bad": write everything decision or action you are not currently doing that you know you should be doing. make a list of things you are putting off or procrastinating about. For example: "I really should start creating the habit of waking up early, this will give me a chance to exercise and have breakfast with my kids in the morning"

4) Under the heading "the ugly": write the most common mistakes that you continue to make. Things that you do on a consistent basis that you feel bad about and that you know you should stop doing. For example: "I need to make an effort to stop drinking so much, this brings a negative effect in my life"

The idea of this exercise it to help you see clearly where you are are. it will help you understand your choices, see what's working, what is not working, will help you get clarity on the things you are procrastinating about, and most important it will help you eliminate the same mistakes you continue to make.

Only then, you can start working on eliminating the negative behaviors that are preventing you form achieving what you desire, it will help you appreciate the qualities that have been useful and it will help you create a plan of action moving forward.

Please be as honest as you can about this exercise, it is difficult sometimes to admit our mistakes, it is a lot easier to see the positive behaviors and take credit for things when everything goes well, but it is essential to see where we need to make improvements, otherwise we will only continue making the same mistakes and no progress will be made.
