Legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld and Pirelli teamed up to launch the Italian tyre maker's calendar in Moscow at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

The calendar, a coveted collectors item gifted to Pirelli's high-impact corporate clients, this year features a corps of 21 top international models and the actress Julianne Moore posing as Greek and Roman gods and goddesses.

Lagerfeld and Pirelli Chairman and CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera showed a behind-the-scenes video of the calendar shoot and introduced some of the models.

"Message is a big word always. The message is my vision of beauty, of modern beauty. With the girls and boys who are the best in that job today," Lagerfeld said.

The designer, who oversees the house of Chanel and is also an accomplished photographer, conceived of the shoot and photographed the models himself in his Paris studio. He appreciated the chance to spread his wings creatively.

Lagerfeld said he wanted the models to be nude, to get closer to the mythological accuracy. He photographed the models over two days, on bare sets with few props. All of the photos are in black and white.
