Sadiq Khan hints that major sporting events may be coming to London

00:00Going forward, you've talked about some of the opportunities we've got with the London Stadium.
00:03With the World Athletics Championship bid for 2029, we're looking at a future World Cup bid for Women's World Cup,
00:10and we're also looking at a future Olympics bid.
00:13How much are you going to be throwing your weight behind these opportunities?
00:16Yeah, so we're working closely with the government in relation to the 2029 World Athletics Championships.
00:21I remember 2017 really well, in terms of, you know, I think it's Mo Farah's last major event and Usain
00:26Bolt's.
00:27It's just an amazing showcase for the world to see London again after the 2012 Olympics.
00:35And he's right in terms of the impact the Roses winning the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham had in terms
00:40of women's sport,
00:41which is elite sports, but, you know, helping our economy as well.
00:45It is really important to bid for these events. I mean, it's important.
00:49And so we are working closely with DCMS and the FA in terms of the Women's World Cup 2035,
00:56incredibly important. A lot of these things you've got to plan way in advance.
00:59Many of us may not be around in 2035, but our city will be around, and it's really important.
01:04In advance of a big event, things happen, good things happen, and afterwards as well.
01:09So, you know, keep our fingers crossed in terms of all those bids.
01:13I'm confident because we've got really good assets and stuff, and we know how to run things.
