APPA: Serving Public Power for 70 Years

To celebrate the American Public Power Association's 70th anniversary, APPA staff collected pictures and artifacts from its membership to put together a diorama that will hang on the wall in the reception area of APPA's office in Washington, D.C. From this project came the idea to create a film chronicling the history of public power and APPA. Both were unveiled at the National Conference June 21 in Orlando, Fla.

Featuring images and videos from APPA members and interviews with current and former CEOs and former board chairs, APPA: Serving Public Power for 70 Years covers 70 years of APPA service to its membership and presents a visual history of the importance and development of municipally owned utilities. Since the first communities used arc lamps to light up their town squares in the 1880s, nearly 2,000 public power utilities have followed.
