00:01You were wishing you were the turkey.
00:02Yeah.
00:03I've been telling you hear that for an hour.
00:05Hey, GQ, it's Luke Combs, and today I'm going to show you all the things I can't live without.
00:19That was a good slide.
00:22Today's essential here is going to be coffee.
00:25So, got to have this every day.
00:26Anytime we're in a city, we try to find some local coffee to have.
00:31I've got a Jura on the bus.
00:33I know it doesn't look like it, but I do intermittent fasting.
00:36So, this is about the only thing that I get to enjoy before noon every day.
00:40So, coffee's a big part of the things that keep me sane and definitely something that I can't live without.
00:45Have you ever tried to give up coffee?
00:47No, why?
00:48Why would I try to give up coffee?
00:49I've never tried, never will try.
00:51A man needs something.
00:52You know what I mean?
00:54You can't even have coffee.
00:55What can you have, you know?
00:57I mean, start the day off with a glass of water, but this is a glass number two right here.
01:01And three and four and five sometimes.
01:03So, got to have this.
01:04Got to have it.
01:07Again, I know it doesn't look like it, but most of the time I'm gluten free.
01:11And so, that would be bread, pasta, anything fried, anything good has all been given up.
01:18If I'm going Michelin star dinner, I'm probably not going to tell the server that I'm gluten free,
01:22because I would rather just have the full experience from time to time.
01:26But for the most part, I try to avoid it.
01:27Trying to drop some LBs.
01:29It's been a whole thing.
01:30Always looking for a good bar.
01:32These are the ones that I've landed on.
01:33Aloha bars that are my absolute favorite.
01:35The macros are nice on them.
01:37They taste fantastic.
01:38So, Aloha if you're looking, if you're looking for me.
01:41Here I am.
01:42Okay, these are delicious.
01:45I spent a lot of time in the outdoors again, especially in the spring, turkey hunting.
01:49So, we've got kind of a selection of arrowheads here.
01:52I actually have this tiny little bird point right here, tattooed on my left arm,
01:58because this is the first one that my wife ever found.
02:01She found this in Montana.
02:02I mean, it's almost transparent if you can see it, but this would have been, you know,
02:08tied on an arrow to, you know, shoot small game, rabbits, birds, anything like that.
02:15Found this little guy here in a field in Tennessee, walking around on a turkey hunt.
02:19And, you know, you're able to hold a piece of history in your hands,
02:23and it's not something that's just going to be lost to, you know, living under the soil
02:29for the next however many thousands of years.
02:31This is an Indian head penny from 1897 that I found in the same field that I found this in.
02:40And in the very same field, I found a musket ball in the very same field on the very same
02:45day.
02:45So, that was a good day in the woods.
02:47Also, found this rattlesnake rattle.
02:50Not found. I say found.
02:52I don't know if you can say how it was actually acquired in the GQ interview, but it was found
02:57that day as well.
02:59This is the first one that I ever found.
03:01They call this a turkey tail point.
03:03It's just missing the very top of it here.
03:06But this would have been like more of a spear type point here.
03:10This is what you would call a celt.
03:12So, these would have been used to flesh hides or carve out bowls or canoes.
03:19These would have been held kind of like this and, you know, carve out wood.
03:22Again, flesh hides.
03:23It's just something that, you know, not everyone has seen.
03:27Not everyone has gotten to be around.
03:28So, I like to share it if I ever have the chance and, you know, kind of keep the history
03:34alive of these things.
03:37Watches.
03:38I'm a big watch guy here.
03:40This is my little travel case that I have.
03:42I got a few in here that I wanted to bring and show you guys.
03:45I'm a big vintage guy.
03:46This has become my vice.
03:48This has kind of been my thing that I've gotten way too deep and horribly addicted to.
03:53So, this is a vintage AP with an opal dial from the 1980s.
03:59White gold.
04:00Pretty rare.
04:01Wore this at the Knicks game the other night.
04:03Looked nice, I thought.
04:04My wife got me this watch here.
04:07This is a Patek Perpetual Calendar.
04:09I had this strap made for it.
04:11It looks like snakeskin, but it's calfskin.
04:13My grandfather got one when he quit the mill.
04:16He worked there for 25 years.
04:18And when he left, they gave him a Rolex.
04:20And he was always really, really proud of what that watch signified.
04:24And it kind of was this physical item that could sum up this achievement that he had had.
04:29So, now I buy a watch.
04:31You know, when my sons were born, I bought watches.
04:34And at the end of a big tour, I'll buy a watch and they kind of signify.
04:39Not each and every one, but a lot of them have a significance to them.
04:42Vintage Daytona here.
04:45Really sick.
04:46Paul Newman.
04:46White dial.
04:48This is deep watch lore stuff.
04:50If you know this, you know it.
04:52Super light.
04:53It's stainless steel.
04:54You know, when you feel these older Rolexes, sometimes you like can't believe the way they feel in your hand
04:59a little bit.
05:00I wear a lot of like vintage camo, stuff like that.
05:02So, these always kind of go with that look to me.
05:04I'm wearing a little Patek here with a red stag on it.
05:10I don't know if you can see that.
05:11Again, I'm a big outdoorsman.
05:14So, this kind of, that's the signification of this watch for me is, you know, I can relate.
05:20I just love it.
05:21It's nice.
05:21Classic looking.
05:22Sleek.
05:23You know, nothing crazy.
05:26Hats.
05:26As a hair-challenged dad in his mid-30s, this has become another staple of my wardrobe.
05:35I wear a lot of hats.
05:36I have a lot of hats.
05:38I find them on eBay.
05:39People give them to me.
05:40This is a new hat.
05:41It's got, again, these two are both vintage.
05:44This has the kind of vintage look.
05:45I love a corduroy hat.
05:46As a guy who sweats a lot, probably not the best choice to wear on stage, but I love the
05:52way a corduroy hat looks, the way it feels.
05:53Obviously, we got our senior hat, our Dale Earnhardt, number three, with the flames on it.
05:59I wore this at my son's third birthday party, and we have a nice, this is a Merle Haggard, vintage
06:04Merle Haggard, local crew hat,
06:06which would be a hat that's given to the crew in whatever town you're going to come to, kind of
06:11as a token of appreciation outside of payment, obviously.
06:14I have worn this hat a million times, as you can tell.
06:18It was actually in really good shape when I got it, and this is just from years of wear.
06:22It's got a little pin on the side of a pronghorn antelope.
06:26Obviously, this hat that I'm wearing is a collaboration I did with the Carolina Panthers, my favorite football team.
06:33So, this is kind of like my line I got to do with them, which was a total bucket list
06:37thing for me.
06:38So, yeah, hats.
06:39Got to have them, wear them every day.
06:41Another way to accessorize, quote unquote.
06:44I don't know if that's what I would normally call it, but yeah, love them, love hats.
06:51Oh.
06:52So, an all-time classic here.
06:54Bahama II, Columbia, PFG.
06:57If you were going to see me perform, would I be wearing a hat?
06:59Yes.
07:00Would I be wearing this?
07:02Yes, I would be.
07:04Big, boxy, big guy shirt.
07:06You know, some people think of me, they probably think of this shirt in a lot of ways.
07:10I mean, this is a shirt that I've been wearing for years.
07:13I was wearing these in college.
07:15Specifically, the black one came along after I moved to Nashville.
07:18It really was born out of just comfort.
07:20I was wearing these shirts playing shows because I was comfortable in them.
07:23As a bigger guy, I thought they looked nice.
07:25They're super breathable, which is great for stage.
07:28They don't get super, like, overly drenched with sweat or water or anything, or beer or whatever.
07:35You know, liquid maybe flying around on stage.
07:38People always ask me, well, how many of those shirts do you have?
07:41Do you just have one?
07:43And I was like, no.
07:43Well, yes, I just have one shirt that I wear all the time that I wash.
07:47No, I have, I mean, 50 of these at least.
07:52Columbia has been such a huge supporter of me and a big part of, like, my brand.
07:59I like to think that maybe I helped them out, like, 1% by wearing this.
08:04Probably less than 1%, but just to some extent, I would like to think maybe I helped out.
08:08I do know that when I started wearing these, this was the worst-selling color of the PFG, and now
08:13it's the best-selling color.
08:15So, I might have helped a little bit.
08:17Xbox controller.
08:18Big video game guy.
08:20I have been my entire life.
08:22I was an only child, so a lot of time was spent entertaining myself.
08:25Also, I have a gaming PC at my house, and I play on an Xbox controller.
08:30So, whether I'm on the bus playing on the Xbox or I'm at home on the rig, then we're always
08:36playing some kind of sports game going down.
08:39Battlefield 6, something along those lines is always happening.
08:43The little bit of downtime I do have, I enjoy playing games.
08:46It's always been a great escape for me.
08:48Top five games of all time.
08:50I would definitely say the Battlefield franchise is really up there for me as far as shooters go.
08:55Obviously, Madden, NCAA football.
08:58I'm a huge football fan, so those games are every year.
09:01I'm picking up the new copy.
09:03FIFA.
09:04I absolutely love FIFA.
09:05I've spent hours and hours and hours.
09:07Me and my buddies playing FIFA tournaments and, you know, just sitting around a college dorm room and drinking beer,
09:14playing video games.
09:16So, yeah, those four, obviously, all the Call of Duty stuff is really great.
09:21I know all basic answers, but there's a ton.
09:23I love Fallout.
09:25You know, all the Elder Scrolls, Skyrim games were, you know, huge parts of my childhood as well.
09:31So, yeah, Xbox controller video games.
09:34Gotta have them.
09:35Love them.
09:36All right.
09:37So, turkey calls.
09:40I wear people out with these things.
09:42This is what's called a slate call.
09:44So, this is a different kind of call than this call.
09:47This is a mouth call.
09:48The biggest benefit to this call would be you can call without using your hands, right?
09:53People say if they could smell, you would never kill them because their eyesight is beyond anything that's even comprehensible.
10:01So, you try to not move as much as you can, right?
10:05So, this call here is basically I'm going to take this striker on this piece of slate right here.
10:13And I'm going to, right?
10:20So, if there's a turkey that's 20 yards away from me, I'm not going to be picking my hands up
10:25and doing this.
10:25If I'm by myself, because I'm also probably going to have a weapon in my hands and I'll have four
10:32hands.
10:33So, this is great when you're hunting with people.
10:36If there's not a turkey in front of you, this carries a lot of distance.
10:42So, does this call?
10:44This mouth call here can be a little bit louder, I would say, than this one.
10:50So, there's just kind of various reasons.
10:52This is all deep.
10:52This is nerdy stuff here.
10:54And this is probably, people are going to make fun of me for how bad this sounds.
10:57Probably bad.
11:05So, like if there was a turkey in front of me, I can have this in my mouth and have
11:09my gun up and be going.
11:14So, basically, I'm imitating a female turkey and I'm trying to get a male turkey to get close enough to
11:20me to make a mistake, let's say, to keep it PG.
11:25If you are into hunting and you are into turkey hunting, you know that you can't live without these.
11:31I spend, you know, a decent amount of time practicing and trying to be a better caller, trying to, you
11:38know, improve my skills.
11:39There's this call and response game or dance that happens with the animal that becomes, like, this, like, conversation with
11:48it to some extent, I think, is why people become hooked on it.
11:52It's a very intricate thing.
11:53It takes a lifetime learning how to master these calls.
11:56I'm not even close to being where I want to be, so I spend a lot of time with these
12:01on me and especially around this time of year, beginning of the new year, this happens, takes place in the
12:06spring.
12:07So, as we ramp up to turkey season, this is becoming something that's driving everyone that's around me.
12:13Absolutely insane.
12:14My team would vouch for that, certainly.
12:17So, a quintessential item to have.
12:20So, these are Air Max 90s.
12:23I love tennis shoes.
12:24I'm a big fan.
12:25These are probably my favorite shoe for me, personally.
12:30I mean, these are a staple, right, of the Nike lineup.
12:33These are such a classic.
12:35There's a million different colorways of these shoes.
12:37These particular ones are called the Day of the Deads.
12:39Obviously, a little bit out there colorway.
12:42I like that.
12:43I don't wear tennis shoes all the time, but when I do, I want people to know.
12:47Again, Air Max 90s, these are called the Grateful Ducks.
12:50You got the Bears in the form of the duck inside.
12:54On the back, you've kind of got the Grateful Dead 1990.
12:58So, these are, I mean, 1990, the year I was born, but obviously commemorating the historic show the Dead did
13:04in Oregon's football stadium in 1990.
13:07So, got some flair.
13:09They're kind of the perfect mix to me of, you know, I could work out in these if I wanted
13:12to, but they could also be like a straight-up streetwear look if that's what you're going for.
13:18It's a very versatile shoe.
13:21So, if I happen to have a pair on, and I was like, well, okay, we're out of town, and
13:25I brought a pair of boots and a pair of these, anything I can do in my boots, basically, that
13:30we would be doing on the road, I know I can do in these, whether that's going to get dinner
13:34or going to work out.
13:36There's so many awesome, kind of like rare pairs of these floating around in the world, and I just, I
13:42love the way they look, and they give me some confidence.
13:46Blue Otter sunglasses.
13:48I'm wearing these every day.
13:49This is a company that I'm actually now a part owner of, which is really cool to get to say,
13:56but these are an item I have to have, whether I'm in the water, on the boat, in the pool,
14:02hunting, fishing, whatever it may be.
14:05I can wear these out in the field and feel like they're going to perform well, and I can also
14:09wear them walking down the street in New York City and feel like they're going to look good.
14:12So, these have been a great companion for me, and will continue to be for a lot of years.
14:22All right, so we got some well-worn Sony noise-canceling headphones here.
14:29I mean, I have worn these on a million flights, whether I'm laying in the bed in a hotel room,
14:36listening to a podcast, or working out, or riding the bus.
14:40These headphones have literally played thousands and thousands of hours of music.
14:46These headphones have helped me decide what songs are going to be on my albums, you know, what songs I
14:53do like, what songs I don't like.
14:55I have listened to my new album many times already on these.
14:59By the time, you know, by the time a new album comes out, the artist that's putting it out has
15:05been sick of it for a year already by the time you're hearing it probably.
15:09So, yes, I've spent many hours doing quality control, whether it's from the first work tapes that we recorded,
15:18to songs that my buddies were sending me to work on, to getting the first mixes back, to then doing
15:25final mix, master.
15:27The whole process takes place on these headphones for the most part.
15:31So, these are always around, these are always in my backpack, and I won't get rid of them until I
15:37have to.
15:38These have been really great to me.
15:40In my opinion, very high quality product, and I've never had an issue with them for the last, gosh, I
15:46don't know, five, six, seven years.
15:48I've maybe charged them like two or three times.
15:50It's like the, I'm not trying to sell, I don't have any invested interest in these at all.
15:55I'm a Sony recording artist, so maybe asterisk on that, but I do love these quite a bit, and these
16:02go everywhere.
16:03I would highly suggest a pair of these if you're looking for something.
16:07These have been real good to me.
16:09All right, GQ, that was so much fun.
16:11We'll see you next time.
16:12Thanks for checking it out.
16:13Bye.
16:13Bye.
16:15Peace out.
16:15Come on.
16:15No care.
