Prime Minister David Cameron has sent a message of support for the England football team as they prepare for their first World Cup fixture against the USA.

Mr Cameron summed up his feelings ahead of the match in three words: "Come on England."

The PM also announced he has signed up as the 150,000th member of the England virtual squad on the Football Association's Facebook page.

He gave his backing to the FA's England Football Day campaign, which aims to encourage people to get into the game.

"I want to wish the England team and Fabio Capello every piece of good luck for the while of hte World Cup, but starting with tonight's vital game agains the United States of America," said Cameron.

"I keep saying we are all in this together, and that is particularly true when cheering on the England team."
