High in the rainforest canopy of Madagascar, a black-and-white ruffed lemur is racing along the mossy branches with a fossa β the island's most agile treetop hunter β right behind it.
Branch to branch they go, the lemur leaping the gaps with its long black tail streaming out behind, the fossa flowing along the same line of branches a heartbeat later, never once losing the trail.
Then the lemur changes the game: it scrambles straight up the trunk of the tallest tree around and launches itself across to the crown of the neighbouring tree.
