In the dry southern African desert, a male double-banded sandgrouse wades into a waterhole and soaks his special belly feathers like a sponge. Then he flies home across the scrub, lands at the nest, and his three fluffy chicks crowd under him to drink the water straight from his feathers. No river near the nest? Dad brings the river to them.
