Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase continue to preview the Bills and Vikings game on Monday night by looking back on some old Bills-Vikings crossover players. This leads to a joke from Jeremy about Justin Jefferson coming to Buffalo, which evolves into a serious discussion about the possibility. They analyze whether making a move like that to supercharge the offense is smarter than trying to piece the defense back together.

00:00Carson Wentz has played games this year, right?
00:02He's obviously been a really good football in the league for a long time,
00:04but obviously there's always going to be a little bit of adjustments
00:06with different type of skill sets,
00:07and it's not something that we found out last week.
00:09You're having to make adjustments in-game on the second play, right?
00:12So, you know, nothing that Jim and staff is not used to.
00:16Bills head coach Joe Brady.
00:18He's got a Monday night football game against the Minnesota Vikings.
00:24Bills-Vikings crossovers.
00:25We'll do that before we do remember some Vikings.
00:28We'll get some calls in on the deadline as well,
00:29and you want to hear the latest from what Brandon Bean has told the Associated Press.
00:33Bills-Vikings crossovers, Antoine Winfield.
00:36Oh, I loved him growing up.
00:38Antoine Winfield is like the one that got away.
00:40He was great.
00:41He was one of my first favorite athletes.
00:44I loved him.
00:46Small corner.
00:47Awesome.
00:47He would crush you.
00:49Oh, he was great.
00:51Pat Williams, too, same time, right?
00:52Yeah.
00:53Both those players went to that Minnesota defense.
00:55Yeah.
00:56Yeah.
00:56He was awesome.
00:58Diggs, of course.
01:00Right.
01:01Who else?
01:02Diggs.
01:02Bills-Vikings crossovers.
01:07Are there not that many?
01:08Harrison Phillips here.
01:09Harrison Phillips.
01:10Good one.
01:11Good poll.
01:12Vandermark.
01:12Ryan Vandermark.
01:14That's a current one.
01:15Current Viking.
01:15Great poll.
01:16I feel like there's got to be more guys on defense, though, that fit this.
01:22Case Keenum.
01:23Yes.
01:23Just going to say Case Keenum.
01:24He threw the past two Diggs.
01:26Yes, he did.
01:27He made it to the NFC.
01:28Was it the NFC Championship they made it to?
01:30I think that was the opening round to get to the division, Ron, but I could be wrong.
01:33I think he made it to the NFC Championship, though, because there's that graphic that
01:36sometimes will come up where it's the two conference championship games.
01:42And it's animated Brady standing next to Blake Bortles.
01:46And on the other side, I think it's Keenum standing next to Nick Foles.
01:49Oh, is that right?
01:50Yeah.
01:50Okay.
01:51Pretty sure there was a Final Four where Bortles, Keenum, and Foles were all still going.
01:59Um, yeah, there's, man, there's, I feel like there's a name on the tip of my tongue that
02:05is going to drive me nuts when I'm getting it.
02:07They lost the following week 38-7 to the Eagles.
02:10To the Eagles.
02:10Yeah.
02:11But Percy Harvin.
02:12Yes.
02:13Percy Harvin's a good one.
02:14That's not the defender I was thinking of, but that's good.
02:16That's right.
02:18He was at his best in Minnesota.
02:19Minnesota's where he began his career, right?
02:20Yeah.
02:21Future Bills receiver, Justin Jefferson.
02:23I was just thinking about that too.
02:25Listen, man, would I love that.
02:28Would you take no deal at the deadline now if it means you get a 50-50 shot at Jefferson
02:34Yes, I mean, sure.
02:35A 50-50?
02:36Oh, wait, 50-50?
02:37You don't get a guarantee, but you're in the conversation.
02:41In on it doesn't count around here anymore.
02:42No.
02:43All right.
02:44It's a coin flip that I get him.
02:45It's too easy to say, like, you do it if you guarantee it.
02:47I know, I know.
02:48But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
02:50It doesn't count in trade deadline stuff or acquisitions anymore.
02:53Where would we have to get 60-40?
02:55It's tough.
02:56I do think Brandon Bean is in a tough spot because if it ever gets out that he is pursuing
03:00players,
03:01we are hungry, so hungry that it would almost be better.
03:05Don't even tell me if you're in on something.
03:07Just show me a deal.
03:09Show me the money.
03:10It's probably tough on him because he might want to be as aggressive as ever.
03:14He tells the Associated Press he's as aggressive as ever going into this deadline,
03:18and they are probably more likely to make a defensive addition.
03:22That means he better do it because otherwise, Wednesday morning, people are going to be upset.
03:27Yes.
03:28It's going to be a problem.
03:29Yeah.
03:29In on it is not cool anymore.
03:31No.
03:31It's cool until we've waited too long.
03:34And then it's, I don't care about in on it.
03:36You've got to do something.
03:37I would, for me personally, you don't have to agree with this, for me personally, I will
03:43make one exception to taking in on it as a win.
03:46Okay.
03:47If we see somebody credible on Tuesday say they were in on Justin Jefferson, I am taking
03:56that to the bank and I'm going to be excited about that until the end of the following offseason.
04:02Because that will, you know what that will feel like to me?
04:05Diggs.
04:06They tried to get Diggs in 2019.
04:08It almost happened.
04:10It didn't.
04:11They revisited it the next offseason and then it happened.
04:13Okay.
04:14So I would take in on it on Jefferson to be a win because that would also give you evidence
04:21that, oh yeah, they would go trade for an elite receiver that's going to cost a ton of
04:27everything.
04:28Money, draft picks, bona fide number one.
04:30I would love that.
04:33Knowing that they almost certainly will not do it this week.
04:37And wouldn't that also, if you find out they're in on it, what team's beating the Bills in
04:43terms of fit?
04:44Like the quarterback, we know Jefferson loves the quarterback.
04:47I mean the Chiefs.
04:47The coach.
04:48The coach.
04:49He can go to the Chiefs.
04:50He can go to...
04:51But there's stuff here.
04:52The relationship with the coach.
04:53Brady and Jefferson have a thing.
04:55Fair.
04:55And there is more pulling Jefferson here than anywhere else to me, if you're in on it.
05:01Yesterday, we talked to Matthew Collar on Wednesday here on the show and talked about the Jefferson
05:07stuff, which he does not put down long-term.
05:11Probably not this week, but long-term.
05:13And then yesterday on the Billsquad show, we had him on there too.
05:15And I asked him, all right, for the next six months, you want to throw gasoline on this
05:20fire or you want to tamp it down?
05:22And he said, let's throw gas on it.
05:23The idea that Jefferson could be on the move in the offseason is totally legit, that he's
05:28at a point in his contract where they would have to restructure him slash extend him because
05:32his cap hit goes way, way up.
05:34He referred to it as a pivot point for Jefferson.
05:37So again, not this week.
05:40Offseason, this will be a conversation.
05:44But if the Bills fall short again and don't win the Super Bowl, who knows how it happens?
05:48If they're scoring 30 points a game and then lose 30 to 20, 33 to 30, they're not going
05:57to say, look at that and say, we need Justin Jefferson, right?
06:02They're not going to do that.
06:04It's probably, we need to continue to build our defense because 30 should be enough, right?
06:09They kind of live in that 30 should be enough.
06:11And that's often correct.
06:14The 30 should be enough.
06:15It's just, I think sometimes in the league, the way it is now, you're going to play
06:18the Jags, you're going to play the Bears, you're going to play San Francisco, 30 might
06:24not be enough.
06:25The top teams like the Bills.
06:27Is 30 enough to beat the Bills?
06:29It shouldn't be.
06:30If I told you right now, right now, that in the final game of the season, the Bills defense
06:36will give up 30.
06:39Should the Bills win?
06:43They've given up, I can see the future.
06:45I can only see half of the score.
06:47It says, opponent, 30.
06:50Did the Bills win the game?
06:51They should.
06:52Yes.
06:54So that team you're playing against, 30 shouldn't be enough.
06:58It's match play.
06:59It's one game.
07:00I know.
07:00You want to believe that they can get to 33.
07:02You want to believe they can do whatever it takes.
07:05I don't know.
07:06I almost don't want to get caught up in that because I don't know what number it will
07:09take to win the game.
07:10But once you're in it, it will take what it takes.
07:13And whatever.
07:14Like, this deadline, I think a modest move is right.
07:17Here we are spinning our wheels about Jefferson.
07:19Right.
07:19I know.
07:20Well, but here's the thing.
07:22I made a snarky comment about future Bills receiver Justin Jefferson and set you guys
07:25off.
07:27The mentality of 30 should be enough.
07:29We're good.
07:30Let's go to the defense.
07:31I'll have to see the playoffs.
07:32Did they score 30 in the playoffs?
07:35Did they lose scoring 27?
07:37Because guess what?
07:38In the last five years, they've scored more than 30 in two playoff games.
07:42And they were wildcard.
07:44Denver and Pittsburgh.
07:45They consistently act like, yeah, we can score 30 whenever we want.
07:4930 is enough to win.
07:50Let's address the defense for the playoffs.
07:52And then they lose not scoring 30.
07:55They scored 24.
07:57They scored 27.
07:58They scored 10 against Cincinnati.
07:59Their seasons end when they don't cross 30.
08:02Well, they say that's because the defense didn't hold them under.
08:06And I just think that's.
08:06Like, I got 27.
08:07Right.
08:07My defense should have been better.
08:09Right.
08:10That's why I see the playoffs.
08:11If they lose 36 to 33, I would never believe they're going to go offense in the offseason.
08:17But if they lose a playoff game the same way they've been losing them, 27-24, I don't
08:22know.
08:22I feel like, when am I going to say my offense doesn't get all the way there in the last
08:30game
08:30of the season?
08:31Right.
08:31One more point on this, because as Sal pointed out, the Bills have the high-scoring offense
08:35in football.
08:37And one thing I did mention as a potential storyline for the season that could happen, their offense
08:43could put up big numbers, but mainly because the defense is worse.
08:49And that is exactly what's happened.
08:50Are they not scoring more because they've kind of needed to?
08:53They've needed more.
08:56Against Detroit, they get up early.
08:58Detroit keeps it a game.
08:59They pour on points.
09:00They also keep Josh Allen in these games late.
09:04They're stacking stats.
09:06Against the Ravens, there's a late touchdown because they want the numbers.
09:10Yeah.
09:11So, I kind of like that.
09:12They keep everybody in because they want the numbers.
09:14I kind of like that you're, you know, foot on the gas, but, you know, in the biggest moment
09:20against the best defense, that's why Monday might be fun.
09:23Do it to a great defense.
09:25Show you have answers against a crazy blitzing team, which last year gave you trouble.
09:29Yeah.
09:30Not Minnesota, but like Atlanta last year.
09:32This is the Atlanta game last year.
09:33Monday night against a defense that blitzes like crazy.
09:36And that offense is not supposed to be that good.
09:38And, of course, they had their explosives.
09:39But that could, I guess, also set up a game where we should feel good about what their
09:43offense does, even if their offense doesn't put up, like, a monster point total.
09:47Because, as you just said, a lot of these games, it's like they get to the high, high
09:51point total because we've got to keep going.
09:53Yeah.
09:53We have to keep going because we're trying to stay ahead of the other offense that's
09:57playing against our really bad defense.
09:59And here you have Minnesota.
10:01And I know the Bills' defense is not good, but it's not a guarantee at all that they
10:07will be able to keep up and they will be able to score.
10:09Guess what?
10:10Guess the Bills right now in EPA per play on defense.
10:14They are, like, 22nd in the NFL.
10:16You know who is second last in the NFL in that stat on defense?
10:21It's the Lions.
10:21Guess how many points Minnesota scored on the Lions one week ago?
10:25Fifteen.
10:27So their offense might be so bad, it doesn't matter how bad your defense is.
10:32They don't score on anybody.
10:33I know the Wentz part could be different.
10:35That was Kyler last week that only scored 15 on a bad Lions defense.
10:40But the Bills might only score 24 in this game because, hey, fourth quarter, they just
10:45kind of are, you know, they've cooled off.
10:49They're running the ball.
10:50They're running clock because they're up by 15 points.
10:53Get some phone calls in here on Bills and Vikings and other Bills-Vikings crossovers,
10:59if you can think of one.
11:00I think the guy I was thinking of was Xavier Rhodes, which was much, much more Vikings
11:05than Bills.
11:06He started, like, two games.
11:07I was going to say, he showed up for a hot minute.
11:09He started, I've got two starts.
11:10How about this one?
11:11Two games.
11:12Lewis Seen.
11:14Lewis Seen.
11:15Lewis Seen.
11:16Former first-round pick, Vikings safety.
11:17Yeah.
11:17He came here and never made the team.
11:20Maybe he dressed.
11:22Lewis Seen.
11:23He, but they switched him to linebacker here, didn't they?
11:26There was a, I remember, like, one of these meaningless training camp stories that there
11:32are dozens of over the years.
11:34I remember one of them being, they are teaching this guy to play linebacker.
11:38And look out, like, big nickel packages, something, you know, the throw at defenses they've never
11:43seen before.
11:43He played one game for the Bills.
11:45He did appear in a game.
11:46He was elevated from a practice squad.
11:48Yeah, he played 16 special team snaps.
11:52All right.
11:52And that was it.
11:53Crossover.
11:53Chris in Albany.
11:54Hey, Chris.
11:55Hi, Jeremy and Joe.
11:56Really appreciate your show.
11:57I've been listening the last couple years here.
12:01Yes, you're welcome.
12:02Just wanted to touch base on, I guess, my frustration with Brandon Bean waiting to the
12:07last minute.
12:09I know it's a tough job.
12:11Last year, it kind of bit us in the ass.
12:14And I'm just worried that's going to be the case again this year.
12:17I would have liked to have seen him pull the Dawkins button about a month ago, because
12:21we obviously need help on defense.
12:23And I would like to see them go and get three or four solid players.
12:28You know, go get a Diggs, possibly.
12:31Go get a Zach Bond and maybe get Buda Baker or Derwin James, because there's inevitably going
12:37to be injuries.
12:38And, you know, we've seen what's happened the last few years when D.J.
12:41Moore gets hurt or Dalton Kincaid.
12:43It really limits our offense significantly.
12:47So, yeah, their cap situation is, it matters, right?
12:53And again, like, he runs the cap.
12:55So, if you want to say, well, we don't have cap space because he runs the cap.
12:59Yeah, he's re-signed players.
13:01They've committed to guys.
13:02And they have a good team.
13:03They have a pretty good roster that has, you know, maybe some holes.
13:06In terms of, like, making a couple trades or why wait, I've referenced this a bunch of
13:12times.
13:12I'll do it one more time here because we're now Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
13:17Four days away from the NFL trade deadline.
13:19In the last 20 years of NFL trade deadlines, three trades have been made on this day.
13:27Four days away.
13:29Okay.
13:30Tomorrow, three days from the deadline.
13:32One.
13:33In 20 years.
13:35It's probably because that's often...
13:37Up against the games.
13:38Right.
13:38It's either a game day or it's one day before the game.
13:41Yeah.
13:41Two days away.
13:42Yeah.
13:43So, Sunday.
13:45In 20 years.
13:46Three trades.
13:47Yeah.
13:48Yep.
13:49So, Monday, when the Bills play.
13:51Now, are the Bills at a disadvantage for playing Monday Night Football?
13:53Maybe you think they are.
13:54In 20 years of trade deadlines, Monday, 18 trades.
14:01Mm-hmm.
14:02It's like one a year.
14:03And then deadline day, which is Tuesday, in 20 years, 58.
14:10So, you know, you're saying, why wait?
14:13They might have that Dawkins lever to pull if they want to push that button at any minute.
14:17Like, bang, they'll push that button.
14:19Why wait?
14:20Not only are you dealing with teams that are...
14:21Who do you want to play?
14:22You want to get a money hooker?
14:24If you're the Titans, you'd say, I'll wait until Tuesday.
14:26Because on Sunday, there might be a team that loses its starting safety and will pay more than you.
14:31But why would I sell it right now, this asset, when it's just...
14:35I've got to wait three more days.
14:36The thing that could hurt you, though, is if Monday comes and the Titans are ready to say,
14:41yeah, this team's giving us an offer we like.
14:43We want to say yes right now.
14:44And are the Bills willing to do that on a day they're about to play a football game?
14:47Maybe.
14:48That's a good question.
14:49Because that's an advantage somebody else would have.
14:51That could be...
14:51Sure.
14:52I guess if you're talking about trading a rostered player.
14:55Yeah.
14:55But what difference does it make?
14:57If Brandon Bean wants to pay a third round price for a player or a second and a seventh,
15:03what difference does Sunday to Monday make?
15:05I'm not saying there couldn't be a difference.
15:07It's just...
15:07The difference you would worry about, and you don't have to care about this,
15:10would be, I trade for Amani Hooker on 2 p.m. on Monday,
15:14because I don't think he'll still be available on Tuesday.
15:16And now DeMar Hamlin's all thrown off to play the game on Monday night because he knows he just got
15:21replaced.
15:21I can't worry about that.
15:22I'm with you.
15:23Like, I feel like that would be used as an explanation.
15:27I don't know what other reason there would be.
15:29I think you shouldn't be afraid of saying, I play tonight.
15:33This player is going to come in, and it's a big deal.
15:36Like, I'm just going to do it.
15:38I would just do it.
15:39Sal points out...
15:40Thank you, Sal.
15:41The other reason you wait is because the acquiring team is responsible for the remaining salary
15:46every single week counts toward the cap.
15:49So if you're the Bills, acquiring Amani Hooker two weeks ago versus this week would matter on your cap.
15:54Would that not still be true, then, of any team that would get the player on Monday?
15:59Because you're still in the week?
16:00No, no.
16:01That's fine.
16:03Well, I guess if you wait until Tuesday, it's less money for whoever trades for it.
16:07Than Monday, because you're paying the guy for this week's play.
16:09Yeah.
16:10That's a great question.
16:11If the guy was on a team on Sunday, has he been paid?
16:14Right.
16:15But then...
16:17Too far in the woods.
16:17I don't know either.
16:18I like the Justin Jefferson talk better.
16:20Steven Wheatfield.
16:21Hey, Steve.
16:22Good morning, gentlemen.
16:23Thanks for taking my call.
16:24I appreciate it.
16:25It's been a while since I called in.
16:27And I was just thinking about this whole situation with the trading and where the offense is.
16:32And, you know, when I think about when I watch a game on Sunday, if the Bills win 10-3,
16:37I don't walk away from that game feeling too great.
16:40But if the Bills win, I don't know, 41-35, like they did a couple games at the beginning of
16:46the year,
16:47I walk away feeling better than I would.
16:49And so I am for taking a defensive player if they can get it.
16:54But I would be just, personal opinion, just as happy if they got an offensive player at the trade too.
17:00Yeah.
17:00Especially if it was one of significance.
17:02That would excite me.
17:04And, Jeremy, if you don't mind, last thing just to mention to you.
17:08On Halloween, you dressed up as a soccer referee, right?
17:11Yes, I did.
17:12And you had a lot of fun with the red card and the yellow card, right?
17:14Yeah.
17:15So I bought on, should I say Shmamazon?
17:18Sure.
17:19I bought a red card and a yellow card, one for my truck and one for my personal vehicle.
17:24And it has de-escalated so many situations of people getting angry or whatever.
17:29I just show them a red card or a yellow card based on what they did to cut me off.
17:33And they laugh.
17:34They don't, like, give me the finger.
17:35They think it's hilarious.
17:36Yeah.
17:36So it's like a way that I've de-escalated situations.
17:39It's pretty funny.
17:40Beautiful.
17:40I love that.
17:41But I appreciate the gesture that you gave us on Halloween.
17:45So thank you.
17:46Yeah.
17:46And enjoy the weekend, boys, and go Bills.
17:49Thanks, Steve.
17:49Yeah, I got the yellow card and the red card.
17:52They went through the wash, but they're fine.
17:54And I have thought about leaving them here.
17:57Like, we should be yellow carding callers.
17:59I think maybe people should just carry them around at all times in society.
18:02Maybe it should be a more peaceful society if we all just walked around with red and yellow cards.
18:07I mean, I think Steve's given us the path forward.
18:11Yeah.
18:11They went through the wash.
18:12Yeah.
18:12And they survived that?
18:13They're just paper, aren't they?
18:14No, they're a little bit...
18:15Laminated, kind of?
18:16A little bit, yeah.
18:17All right.
18:18I got to bring them in.
18:20Man, 41-35 would be...
18:22You got red carded.
18:24I did.
18:24You deserved it.
18:25You got red carded.
18:26Did I deserve it?
18:26I mean, the guy is unbelievable.
18:31This is...
18:32Trey McBride.
18:32This is...
18:33Joe says, think of Trey McBride like a wide receiver.
18:35This is when you go in front of the Department of Player Safety and you're supposed to admit
18:39you were wrong and you shouldn't have done it.
18:41And here's you.
18:42He's like, no.
18:43No, I ain't taking any responsibility.
18:44I hit that guy on purpose in the face.
18:46Yeah.
18:46I'll do it again.
18:48Harmon in Nashville.
18:49Hey, Harmon.
18:50Hey, guys.
18:51I have a great Vikings-Bills crossover.
18:55Okay.
18:55It's Ahmad Rashad.
18:58Okay.
19:00Did not know he played in Minnesota.
19:02Yep.
19:03That's where he made a Hail Mary catch, as a matter of fact.
19:08I think in the playoffs against the Cowboys.
19:11Okay.
19:11All right.
19:12Minnesota, obviously, was like his best stop also.
19:15Not knowing he played in Minnesota is just him playing 20 years before I was born.
19:19But, yeah, he played seven years in Minnesota and had a bunch of big seasons.
19:23I went to Pro Football Reference and just, you know, let's do a Google search.
19:27We remember a few and get a little help.
19:29And I guess a lot would remember this, but I did not remember this, that Daryl Talley played
19:34a season with the Vikings.
19:36Really?
19:36Yeah.
19:37At the end?
19:38After the Bills?
19:381996, he played 12 games in Minnesota.
19:40I did not remember that.
19:42Wow.
19:42Yep.
19:43Linval Joseph is also on this list.
19:45Oh, yeah.
19:46Remember that.
19:47There are three quarterbacks.
19:52Really?
19:53Keenum and two others.
19:54Like starting caliber quarterbacks?
19:57Caliber might do some work, but they started games.
20:00They started games.
20:03Okay.
20:05Or at least appeared in games.
20:07I don't know if this Bills quarterback ever started a game.
20:09Appeared?
20:10Appeared.
20:10He would have started two for Minnesota, one for the Bills.
20:15None for the Bills.
20:16No, he came in in relief?
20:18He came in in relief.
20:20It's an iconic game in Bills history.
20:22Oh, Joe Webb.
20:23Joe Webb.
20:24He started a playoff game for Minnesota.
20:27Yeah, I don't think he ever started for the Bills.
20:29Latavius Murray.
20:31Another crossover.
20:32Okay.
20:35Somewhat remember that.
20:36Someone tweeted in Bryce Popp.
20:38Okay.
20:38Is that right?
20:40I believe it is.
20:42He was in Minnesota, too?
20:44Yes.
20:45He was in Minnesota for the 2000 season.
20:47Who was the other?
20:48There's another quarterback?
20:49You said?
20:50Kelly Holcomb.
20:52Kelly Holcomb.
20:53Yeah.
20:54I had somebody just tweet in Matt Castle.
20:56Matt Castle.
20:57Yeah.
20:57He did start a game for the Bills.
20:59Trent egregious that he gets credit for it.
21:01Trent Shurfield.
21:03Trent Shurfield, who is currently on the Bills.
21:05More crossovers.
21:07Stephon Gilmore played a season in Minnesota.
21:09A lot of these guys are like they just did a cup of coffee on the other team.
21:13Sure.
21:14Gabe Northern.
21:16Yeah.
21:18Are we done?
21:19Already got Antoine Winfield.
21:21Yeah.
21:22803-0550.
21:23We'll talk with NFL insider Vic Carucci on the other side part of our football Friday
21:28as we start to get ready for a deadline.

21:34Don't worry, Chacha's gotcha.
21:36Talk to us about what the Bills need.
21:38What do you want them to trade for?
21:39Give us a ring.

21:40We'll talk about it.
21:41We'll ask Vic what he thinks, what he might expect for the deadline.
