Has Bills GM Brandon Beane painted himself into a corner by telling the AP yesterday that he's going to be aggressive at the trade deadline?
Transcript
00:00We'd started digging into a tweet from John Warrow, the Associated Press.
00:03He tweeted out last night, the Bills GM Brandon Bean tells the AP he's as aggressive as ever
00:09heading into the trade deadline and more than likely targeting defense.
00:12If going to use what limited cap space he has, he said he'd probably use it to acquire a defender.
00:19So that would not shock a lot of Bills fans if they looked for something on the defensive side,
00:23safety, linebacker, whatever it might be.
00:25Do you feel like this report, which is basically from Brandon Bean, he tells the AP,
00:32I don't know if it adds pressure, but it indicates that the GM feels pressure.
00:37You take it where you want to take it.
00:39I don't put words in your mouth.
00:40But for me, this sets the expectation.
00:42I feel like he will have to make a move because after saying this to the AP,
00:48you can't trot out there on Wednesday and say, I tried.
00:51He's got to know the fans have had enough of, I tried.
00:54Even if it's a mid-level move.
00:57I agree.
00:57I think having this out there publicly puts you in a position where if you don't get something done,
01:04it's really making it look worse than if you had never said anything and get out there and go,
01:11look, it was really tough.
01:12And everybody's going to be already mad at that, right?
01:13No doubt.
01:14Yeah.
01:15So I agree with you, Jeremy, from that aspect.
01:17We talked about this last night.
01:18Matt Bovey and I did a Always Game Day in Buffalo podcast.
01:20And we both said the same thing last night because that's, like, literally we were on
01:24when I think the tweet might have come out from John and the report and, you know, right after that.
01:29And Matt said the same thing you just did.
01:30And I agree with that.
01:31Now, obviously, there are some caveats in this particular tweet and report, right?
01:36Which is when you read what John wrote, if going to use what limited cap space he has, right?
01:44That's the caveat, which is it does give Brandon Bean an out, so to speak, and say, look,
01:51it didn't say I was going to make a trade.
01:53It was if he was going to make a trade and what limited cap space he has telling you right
01:57there,
01:58we don't have much to work with here.
01:59So there are some guardrails here on this, but I think this type of report is basically saying out there,
02:07yes, I'm going to be as aggressive as possible.
02:11Well, look, I mean, last year he was mad, I think, on trade day.
02:16And we all know that because I think he felt he had a deal.
02:19And we all can all now kind of say it was for Jalen Waddell, I think, right?
02:23And he had a deal and it didn't go through.
02:24And then he couldn't pivot to Rasheed Shaheed because it was a little too late and everything that happened there.
02:29So if that's as close as you get and you say you're going to be as aggressive as ever,
02:33it feels like you need to get that over the line this time.
02:35And if you don't, then there's going to be a lot of people really upset of even more so than
02:41they have been in the past.
02:42And let's be honest.
02:43I mean, this team has a look at it.
02:45They have a look at the Super Bowl just like they have in the last several years and maybe more
02:48so.
