This edition of 'So South' focuses on major political, civic, and crime developments across southern India. In Karnataka, the state government revealed that tests on fuel samples from oil marketing companies showed ethanol blending exceeding 20 percent, touching up to 31.2 percent in certain cases, raising concerns over vehicle mileage drop and substantial revenue losses. Meanwhile, a gruesome crime in Bengaluru was reported where a cab driver allegedly bludgeoned seven members of his wife's family to death over domestic discord. In Tamil Nadu, the opposition DMK targeted the ruling administration over governance issues, law and order, and the chief minister's attendance at a high-profile wedding following the tragic deaths of fishermen caught in Cyclone Murasu. The bulletin also covers allegations of assembly horse trading involving monetary inducements, DVAC raids regarding illegal sand mining, land discrepancy notices in Telangana involving former chief minister KCR's family, and protests by primary school teachers in Kerala.

00:06Hello, Vanakkum and welcome to India Today's SoSouth where we bring you all the latest updates
00:11about the southern part of India, be it cinema, politics, civics or anything related to public
00:17governance. It's SoSouth at one o'clock and today I'm joined by my colleagues Apoorva
00:22Jaichandran and Shibhimol who's joining us from Kerala. We're going to start the show
00:26straight up from stories coming in from Karnataka.
00:46It's a shocking revelation coming in from Karnataka. The Karnataka government has undertaken a test
00:54by taking in 63 samples from all the major oil companies. The companies from the likes
01:00of IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, Nayara and Shell and the revelations from this test is completely shocking.
01:08The government has found that the percentage of ethanol blend was more than 20% in 7 districts.
01:15And the Karnataka government says that if this trend continues and the mileage drops by
01:2110%, then the total loss for the Karnataka government would be around 62,000 crore every year.
01:29Now this is some really shocking piece of information that's coming in because the percentage of ethanol,
01:34which is supposed to be in control, has exceeded more than 20%. In fact, it is 63 samples that we
01:41are
01:41talking about. The samples were sent to oil marketing companies lab with a lot of questions.
01:46In fact, one of those questions was very, very pertinent. It asked to specify exactly how much ethanol
01:52was present in all of those 63 samples. And then came the dubious part. None of those oil marketing
01:58companies gave clear answer for how much content of ethanol was present. And it's exactly after this
02:04that the Karnataka government really grew suspicious about this dubious nature of answers not being given.
02:11And then they were forced out of no choice to send this sample to a private lab.
02:16And after this, they have found out that the percentage of ethanol blend coming in from all these
02:22top oil companies have shot up to more than 20%. The highest is the IOCL company at 31.2%
02:30which is very, very shocking because it's just going to drop down the mileage for users
02:35for their vehicles that's compatible with E20 fuel. And that's why the Karnataka government
02:40says that the losses, if this trend continues, if the percentage of ethanol blend is higher,
02:47would run up to 62 crore thousand rupees. We have reactions coming in from the story
02:53from Karnataka's Minister Rizwan Arshad. Take a look.
02:57We started getting samples from different oil marketing companies and petrol banks.
03:04We drew around 63 samples, sent it to the same oil marketing companies,
03:09asked them various aspects of tests to be done. And one of the component of the test was
03:14what is the percentage of ethanol you're blending. All 63 samples, the oil, different oil marketing companies
03:20have dodged and not given us a specific answer for the percentage of ethanol blend.
03:26And when we got suspicious, we drew samples from different parts of the Karnataka again
03:30and sent it to private accredited, NABL accredited ISO certified labs.
03:37And we found that up to 31.2% of ethanol is being blended by these oil marketing companies.
03:49Now, moving on to next story from Karnataka. In the recently concluded local body elections,
03:55where the Congress government in Karnataka, which is ruling, had faced a massive drubbing of 4-0
04:02in the hands of NDA, has once again pushed for elections to be conducted in ballot paper,
04:08despite this drubbing that we are talking about. In fact, Karnataka's Minister Eswar Kandre has stated
04:14that even in the next local body elections that's going to happen,
04:19the government will be having the elections in ballot papers only.
04:23Now, remember a few weeks back, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. D. K. Shukumar,
04:27had staged a protest in front of the election commission's office,
04:31demanding about this whole ballot paper and SIR issue.
04:35The Karnataka government, Congress particularly, had to say that there were mismanagement,
04:39some sort of flaws that happened during elections and therefore they had pushed for ballot papers.
04:45Listen in to the reactions coming in from Minister Eswar Kandre on this matter.
04:50The cabinet has decided to allocate 20,000 crores for public works department to develop district roads,
05:00state highway roads, and taluka to taluka roads.
05:05This is a very big decision taken by the state government.
05:10The federal body's elections will be conducted through balance.
05:20There's another shocking revelation that's...
05:25Well, breaking news that's coming in from Karnataka.
05:29It's a shocking case of mass murder that we are talking about that has happened in Bengaluru.
05:34A cab driver has mass murdered seven members from his wife's family.
05:39Why? Because he harbored resentment towards his wife.
05:43It's a shocking case of mass murder that we are reporting.
05:47The cab driver's name is Mr. Indushekar.
05:50He has murdered seven members from his wife's family.
05:53Why? Because he had a fight with his wife.
05:55The victims include his wife Sunita, mother-in-law Rupavati,
05:58brothers-in-law Shiva Kumar and Shankar,
06:00sisters-in-law Divya and Nalini,
06:03and even a seven-year-old Puneet was murdered in the hands of Indushekar.
06:07Now, according to preliminary investigations,
06:09the accused allegedly planned the murder and first killed his wife.
06:13He later invited his two brothers-in-law home on the pretext of hosting a party
06:17and allegedly murdered them as well.
06:19He subsequently killed their wives,
06:22his mother-in-law and the seven-year-old boy Puneet.
06:25The police suspect that the accused used a grinding stone to bludgeon the victims to death.
06:30He allegedly transported the bodies in his car
06:33and subsequently dumped them in different locations
06:37before using chemicals to remove blood stains and destroy evidence.
06:41The murders reportedly stemmed from domestic disputes
06:44with the accused allegedly unhappy over his wife's continued contact with her parental family.
06:51It's a very, very shocking case of mass murder that we are reporting.
06:55Very disturbing indeed.
06:57The accused has invited the wife's family home for a party, for dinner, lunch,
07:01and then subsequently taken a grinding stone and then has bashed them to death.
07:06It's quite gory.
07:07Even the visuals that we took a look at is very gory.
07:10The fact that someone was able to murder, mass murder seven members because of resentment in his marital life.
07:18Raising a lot of questions about the law and order situation particularly in Karnataka.
07:30In fact, this has also drawn in a lot of reactions from netizens particularly.
07:36The whole of Bengaluru is in a state of shock because it's quite unimaginable that somebody would go on and
07:44murder seven people at a time.
07:46He has first murdered the wife and what's more chilling is that even a seven year old boy was not
07:52spared.
07:52He was going to school with a very small kid named Puneet.
07:55He was also murdered by this cab driver named Indushekar.
07:59All because why he didn't like his wife being in touch with her side of the family.
08:05It's very, very shocking this incident that we are reporting from.
08:08The whole manner in which this whole incident has been executed is very, very shocking.
08:15That's it from the state of Karnataka.
08:18Moving on to the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu where I am from.
08:22Let's jump straight into Tamil Nadu.
08:37Well, in fact, it's the DMK that has left no stone unturned when it comes to targeting the TVK government.
08:44In fact, it's DMK's member of parliament, Kanimuri Karnanidi, who has released a video saying that the TVK government is
08:52only fit for doing rails.
08:54In fact, that video depicts Kanimuri seated with a bunch of women there listening to their problems.
08:59In fact, a few days back, Kanimuri had also led a protest here, a woman-centric protest, particularly highlighting the
09:06crimes against women and children and also spoke at length about inflation.
09:12Because right ahead, just days before the Diwali season, the Tamil Nadu government had hiked the prices of ghee and
09:20butter, raising a lot of questions about the cost of living in Tamil Nadu.
09:25So, let's listen in to, let's watch that video and then subsequently we will go to our reporter.
09:38Well, that visuals that we are looking at, all this stemmed because why?
09:42The Chief Minister has attended YS Jagan's relative's wedding yesterday in Chennai, it happened at the Leela Palace.
09:50Because we all saw all those visuals that went viral of the Chief Minister along with his mother and then
09:56after Trisha, the whole government members, they were there.
10:00And after all those visuals went viral, the DMK has now attacked the Tamil Nadu government saying that when there
10:06are so many crimes that's happening against women and children,
10:09look at the priority of the Chief Minister who is so keen about making reels about his governance and attending
10:17weddings.
10:17That's the kind of jive that we are looking at coming in from the DMK.
10:47So, let's just say, you know, we are going to see what's happening here in the DMK.
10:48The whole real issue that I was talking about, it was DMK's MP Karnanidi, Kanimori Karnanidi, who has taken it
10:55up.
10:56She highlights how there have been a rise in crimes against women and children in the last six months.
11:03Particularly, even from her district, Tutukudi, there were multiple instances of jilted lover murdering the mother and father in a
11:11family,
11:11happily walking around freely with weapons in his hand.
11:15And in the last five months, there have been a rise in crimes against women and children, is what Kanimori
11:20Karnanidi has highlighted.
11:21And therefore, she's posted a reel on her social media, taking a jibe at the TVK government,
11:27saying that this government is good for only making reels, including their cabinet ministers and MLAs.
11:32They're all swept away by the chief minister's past cinematic glamour.
11:37And that's why the voters in Tamil Nadu have voted for him.
11:40In fact, the TVK has come to power because of women power.
11:43But look at what's happened now.
11:46They've sidelined women entirely, is what Kanimori says, with that reel that she's posted on social media,
11:52taking a jibe at the TVK government.
11:56I'm joined by my colleague, Apoorva Jaichandran.
11:59Apoorva, take us through the DMK's jibe that we are talking about at this moment.
12:04But before that, before I bring in Apoorva, let's listen in to that reel that Kanimori Karnanidi has posted on
12:10her social media.
12:12I hear you.
12:13I hear you.
12:13I hear you.
12:15I hear you.
12:16Because in the future, there is no one who leave at home.
12:20If you don't remember, you will have to search for any police to have these police due to the police.
12:27You will have to search for the police to come back and come back.
12:32I'm so sure you understand, punkt my police told me,
12:38they have to leave the police in the head and ask me to come back.
12:46It's already been done with the last couple of years.
12:49I'd never seen it before.
12:51It's been a good year to have a full-time family.
12:55I have been speaking for three years at a time.
12:59I've been here since.
13:01What are you doing here?
13:02What are you doing here?
13:04I'm not sure of working here today.
13:06I'm not sure of the work.
13:07I'm not sure of the work.
13:08I will be there as a work.
13:11I'm not sure of doing everything.
13:12That's why I told you something to do with it.
13:15That's why I am so proud of you.
13:18When I was taught, I was in a company.
13:22Now, I don't have a car company.
13:25But now, I don't have a car company.
13:29Then, I told you, I don't have a car company.
13:33I don't have a car company.
13:42We are in the same industry, we are in the same industry.
13:47We are in the same industry.
13:48We are in the same industry.
13:48We are in the same industry.
13:49We are in the same industry.
13:51We are in the same industry.
13:57Next is a very tragic story that's coming in from Tamil Nadu.
14:01Nine fishermen from Chennai's Kasi Medu who had ventured out into the seas
14:06have died because of Cyclone Murasu.
14:09Finance Minister Mary Wilson says that four bodies of those fishermen have been recovered in Nellore
14:15whereas five bodies are still missing and he says that he is going to be a part of the search
14:21operations.
14:22In fact, the Tamil Nadu government has flagged some really serious security concerns.
14:26They are saying that the boat owner had not followed proper security protocol.
14:30There were no safety equipment gears.
14:32In fact, even the board, the whole boat was not insured is what he is saying.
14:36So, therefore, the government has ordered a special detailed inquiry into this matter of really finding out
14:43why is it that standard operating procedures that's duly supposed to be followed for a boat to venture out to
14:49the sea
14:49was not duly being followed.
14:51Let's listen in to that bite of Mary Wilson where he details this whole incident
14:56and then we will bring you political reactions.
15:06Mobileіс.
15:07Are you no?
15:13Yes.
15:14Is it the boat owner's removal?
15:19Things are going to be right.
15:20What is it ?
15:22Are you familiar with that?
15:23Blood.
15:25Are you familiar with that?
15:26Not one.
15:26Did you see the boilerplate of the boat owner is now?
15:28It is one that the boat owner is now?
15:28I would like to see the police in 3 minutes on the board.
15:33There were no procedure labs.
15:39There were details of the details of the detail on the board.
16:00On the nine lives lost, precious lives lost of the fishermen, did the government send the
16:04communication regarding the cyclone to them at the appropriate time.
16:09If the communication had gone at the right time, the nine lives could have been saved.
16:13Is the government willing to take responsibility on these lines?
16:17Can there be more transparent commitment from the government of TVK rather than running the
16:24government on reels, Instagram reels?
16:26When will they start the real action is the biggest question right now.
16:30It's high time TVK government get away from the reels and start acting real.
16:36Meanwhile, the DMK's IT Wing has also posted a video on social media.
16:41Visuals of the chief minister attending the wedding celebrations of Vyas Jagan's relative
16:46here in Chennai saying that it is insensitive of the chief minister to take part in a grand
16:52wedding celebrations while fishermen have died in Tamil Nadu because of Cyclone Murasa.
16:57Is the government sleeping?
16:58Are they not doing enough for the safety of fishermen?
17:02Is what the DMK's IT Wing has posted.
17:05That's the visual that you know that you're looking at on your screens saying that the CM
17:09has no heart to stand with the fishermen, but he goes on to attend a lavish extravagant
17:15wedding without a shred of shame.
17:17Is what the DMK's IT Wing has posted on its social media.
17:21Take a look at that video.
17:46Well, in fact, up next is a story that has been happening in Tamil Nadu for a long time.
17:52Earlier once, there was a charge of host trading allegations in which the former minister Sendhil
17:57Balaji and his brother had to obtain a conditional anticipatory bail on charges of host trading.
18:03And once again, it has surfaced here in Tamil Nadu with TVK's MLA Mustafa now alleging that
18:0915 crore rupees was offered for TVK MLA's in exchange of voting in favour of a no-confidence motion in
18:18assembly.
18:19A similar such allegation had surfaced earlier when an FIR was filed against Sendhil Balaji.
18:25And a similar such host trading allegation has once again surfaced.
18:29And now the Madurai police have summoned AIA DMK's functionary PM Mannan in connection with this case.
18:37I also want to tell you all that PM Mannan was earlier with the DMK, was later expelled and now
18:44he has joined the AIA DMK.
18:46The allegations are that AIA DMK has given money in exchange for voting in favour of no-confidence motion in
18:54order to destabilise the government is what we are hearing.
18:57Very shocking allegations, if at all true. And it is in connection to that PM Mannan who served as the
19:04former deputy mayor of Madurai has been summoned by the Madurai police.
19:09Let's listen in to the reactions coming in.
19:11Thank you very much.
20:07Thank you very much.
20:09We have some very shocking allegations that TVK's MLA Mustafa has alleged saying that 15 crore rupees was offered to
20:16TVK MLAs in order to destabilise the Tamil Nadu government here.
20:20I am joined by my colleague Apoorva Jayachandran to give us more inputs on this story.
20:24Apoorva, is it true really that this time the AIA DMK functionaries had offered money?
20:29What's the MLA really trying to say or is this just politics that's being played out?
20:37Well, in fact, the reality of what has happened will be ascertained by the investigation that is going on.
20:43But the AIA DMK has come out and hit out at the charges that have been made by the TVK's
20:49MLA there Mustafa.
20:50In fact, earlier on, we also saw various videos that were posted.
20:53This is a back and forth that is going on between TVK and opposition as well, wherein a video was
20:59posted earlier of an audio tape released,
21:01wherein Mustafa was it was alleged that the TVK MLA Mustafa was giving so much money for a particular corporation
21:08post or whatnot.
21:08And that's what the AIA DMK's General Secretary, Adapadi K. Pandya Swami, is going ahead and retorting back,
21:14saying that we were the first ones who were affected by this alleged host trading charges.
21:18And we were the ones who talked about this, that the TVK was committing.
21:23And now look at TVK going ahead and making fabricated charges against our AIA DMK leader, Manan,
21:30is what Adapadi K. Pandya Swami has gone ahead and pointed out.
21:33He's also saying that this has been time and again charges that have been taken up by the AIA DMK,
21:38not only to the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, but also with the AIA DMK and others
21:43approaching the High Court,
21:45demanding that there were several host trading allegations made by TVK as well.
21:50But now look at TVK going ahead and questioning and summoning AIA DMK's leaders on these kind of allegations.
21:56However, the statements that have been made by TVK's MLA there Mustafa cannot be taken lightly,
22:01because with the charges of host trading that has been making circles since the last couple of months,
22:08now that the terminal police have also picked up this particular person, AIA DMK's Manan,
22:13also taking him into questioning as well.
22:15With these charges that the now TVK's MLA has gone ahead and stated,
22:19it definitely does look like there is a lot more that will come to light from the investigation that follows.
22:27Well, that's true, because this is a very serious allegation that we are talking about.
22:32Attempts being made really to destabilize the government is a shocking allegation that has been levelled
22:38and investigation is currently underway on this matter.
22:42We have another breaking news that's coming in from Tamil Nadu,
22:45and this is regarding the DEVAC searches that's taking place in the alleged Sand Mining Mafia case.
22:52Now remember, this has been a long-standing issue in Tamil Nadu,
22:57with successive governments being held responsible for this kind of illegal mafia that's going on.
23:03It's breaking news that we are bringing to you,
23:05that the DEVAC at the moment is carrying on searches in more than 30 locations.
23:10In fact, just to give you some more background on this story,
23:14the DEVAC had begun its investigation into this alleged Sand Mining Mafia, a month back,
23:20on the allegations of scam running up to more than 4,700 crore rupees in this whole Sand Mining Mafia.
23:28In fact, this whole investigation is based off on an Enforcement Directorate's complaint
23:33that they had earlier written to Tamil Nadu's DGP in the year 2024,
23:37highlighting that it's a 4,000 crore rupee scam that has allegedly happened in Tamil Nadu,
23:43submitting details and furnishing all the evidence related to this alleged illegal Sand Mining.
23:48But shockingly, in the year 2024, despite ED filing that complaint with Tamil Nadu's DGP,
23:54no action was taken.
23:55Now subsequently, another reminder was sent in the month of July for the DGP,
24:00and even after that, no action was really taken.
24:03And in this year, earlier this year, in the month of February,
24:06the Supreme Court had directed Tamil Nadu's government
24:09to submit the details of all FIR registered in connection with the illegal Sand Mining Mafia,
24:15running up to more than 4,700 crore rupees.
24:19And it's only after this, now the DEVAC has now filed an FIR
24:23and now an investigation is launched into this case.
24:26I'm joined by my colleague Apoorva Jaichandran.
24:28Apoorva, it's not a small money.
24:30We're talking about 4,700 crore rupee loss to the state's exchequer
24:35because of this illegal Sand Mining Mafia.
24:38Take us through the details of whose house exactly is being raided at the moment.
24:43Do they have cases against them?
24:45And most importantly, has Tamil Nadu always had Sand Mining Mafia in its state in the last many, many years?
24:56In fact, the searches are continuing on in various locations, particularly in Tirichi, Dindakal
25:02and all of these coastal belt regions of Tamil Nadu.
25:04And one of the prominent leaders also includes one of the college members there.
25:10This is the GNT Arts College, wherein the founder, Mr. Ratnam's house and offices are also being investigated.
25:17Not only here in Dindakal where his houses and offices are being raided,
25:22but also in Tirichi, various other top names have come out in this DEVAC investigation that is currently underway.
25:29However, one of the prominent names that I've pointed out, like I've mentioned, is also including that of Ratnam.
25:34And this has been, in fact, picked up by several questioning that Ratnam's second son, in fact, you know, he
25:40is a TVK city councillor for Dindakal.
25:44And in his houses and residences is where these raids are also going on.
25:49When it comes to Sand Mafia, there's always been cases that have been launched by one government after another
25:54with allegations levying against each other, even back when DMK was in power, as well as when AIADMK was in
26:00power.
26:01And now with searches that are yet again beginning and like you rightly mentioned, the number of wealth that has
26:06been amassed is a huge amount
26:08and which is why now with the Directorate of Vigilance or Enforcement Officers who have now started these searches again,
26:14several parts of Tamil Nadu and also top names that are being investigated in this.
26:18More details we will get to know.
26:20But for now, we do get to understand that there are also political power that has been behind these kind
26:25of raids that have been pulled in
26:27and also that people who have been hushed with this investigation that has been going on.
26:32So it remains a tight investigation that is being on ground and more details will be revealed once the investigation
26:38continues and is over.
26:44That's right. Thank you so much Apoorwa for all those details.
26:47Now that's it from the state of Tamil Nadu moving on to our neighbouring state of Telangana where my colleague
26:53Abdul Bashir is bringing you all of those details.
27:08A controversy has now erupted after the sources here in the Telangana government say that 45 acres of land in
27:15survey number 325
27:16in the Arabali village where the former chief minister and BRS Supremo KCR and his family are likely to receive
27:29notice in three to four days.
27:30Well, this controversy has erupted after the sources said that in survey number 325 in the Arabali village among the
27:37388 total acres of land that is in the records,
27:41343 has only been identified and 45 acres of land is still missing.
27:46And now more than 120 farmers have already been issued notices regarding the ownership of this particular issue.
27:53But more 45 acres of land is still there are discrepancies in this particular case.
28:00And former chief minister and BRS Supremo KCR and his family members are likely to receive notices on this particular
28:06issue.
28:06Now, the chief minister clearly stated earlier in a statement that there are discrepancies in Arabali
28:14and he has directed the officers to investigate thoroughly the land records that are present.
28:19He has also announced that the government is likely to set up or give a Telangana matter colony in Arabali,
28:27that is in this Arabali village if the land has been, will be identified by the government officials.
28:34Now, here reacting to this, KTR has said that when in the city there is land that can be given,
28:41but the government is choosing 82 kilometers away to give land to the Telangana matter is what KTR has said.
28:49Now, the question here remains, will the government be able to identify this alleged discrepancy in 45 acres of land
28:56in this T25 survey of survey number of,
28:59you know, re-survey that was done in Arabali and what would be the reply to the notices by the
29:06KCR and family if the notices are issued in the next three to four days.
29:09That is all we have from the state of Telangana. Moving on to our colleague Shibbi, who will get the
29:15latest from Kerala. Over to you Shibbi.
29:27Thank you, Abdul. Well, in Kerala, in the case, the Mini Cooper accident case, a major development has come up
29:33with the main accused, Suhail Sajeev, being granted bail.
29:37He will be released on bail on November 16th is what we are learning. This is the Kerala High Court
29:42granting him bail after the lower courts earlier dismissed his bail application.
29:47Now, he will be released after 10 days because the investigating officer said that they need 10 more days to
29:52complete the investigation.
29:54Meanwhile, the other accused in the case, accused two, three and four, who are his friends, who were there with
29:59him in the Mini Cooper when this accident took place,
30:01have been granted bail by the Kerala High Court. Now, if you see in the last few days, there have
30:06been multiple accidents reported in the state, especially involving teenagers in which four people have lost their lives.
30:12Yesterday, in the Benzkar incident, accident incident, the accused have gotten bailed. The father of the accused also got bailed
30:21protection from the High Court.
30:22Here today, this accused also in the Mini Cooper accident gets bailed. With the victim's families now raising a lot
30:28of questions to the investigative team, the prosecution and the judiciary at this point.
30:44Well, we are moving to another breaking. A case has been registered by police against an Instagram user on charges
30:51of trying to create riot and ill will between the religious communities in Cochi.
30:57Now, this is after the Instagram user posted a reel on Instagram in which he says that, you know, there
31:05is a poster in which he says that this is the beginning of everything.
31:09Inshallah, we can get this done by the end of it. Now, the problem is he was standing in front
31:14of a synagogue in Matanjin in Cochi and that's how he registered and that's how he took this reel.
31:19Now, if you remember, a few days ago, a man was arrested on UAPA charges in which he had tried
31:26to burn a synagogue in Cochi.
31:28Now, following which the Kerala police team have been investigating this in detail, the investigation had also extended to other
31:36states.
31:37The N.I. had also registered a case and took over the case as there were terror links associated with
31:42it.
31:42And it's in this background. This man stands in front of a synagogue in Matanjiri.
31:46Synagogue is associated with the worship of Jews and he stands there and puts up a post saying that this
31:53is the beginning.
31:53More such incidents will take place. The police have arrested him on charges of trying to create riot and ill
31:59will between religious communities.
32:00And says that he also tried to create fake news and also false alarm among the people and unrest among
32:07the people.
32:08And he has now been taken into custody. Arrested is what we are learning.
32:22Well, moving on, the LPST, the Lower Primary Teachers Association have restarted their protest after calling it off few months
32:30ago after talks with the government.
32:32The government had earlier accepted four of their demands.
32:35But the main demand was to reduce the student teacher ratio from 20 to 25 is to one.
32:42That demand has not been accepted, following which they're back on the streets protesting.
32:46The Congress government here says that there are financial constraints and that demand cannot be accepted.
32:51Take a look at this package.
33:09Keralam's lower primary school teachers are back on the streets.
33:14After more than 120 days of agitation and repeated rounds of talks, the teachers have resumed their protest,
33:21accusing the Satishan-led Congress government of failing to address their demands.
33:27They have now announced an indefinite hunger strike.
33:34At the heart of the deadlock is one key demand.
33:38A 1 to 25 teacher-student ratio.
33:41Keralam government has agreed to four of the teachers, five demands, but has refused to accept this one.
33:49To reduce the ratio, that is 1 to 25 in the possible schools, that means division for possibility schools only.
33:57But they are saying that when we make that, there will become more problems and also financial crisis will occur.
34:05We want justice and we need that job also, so that we are continuing our strike more strong.
34:12It took a dramatic act of protest to bring this four-month long struggle into the spotlight.
34:17On October 27th, Secretary of the All-Keralam Lower Primary School Teacher Rankholders Association publicly shaved her head to draw
34:27attention to the teachers' demands.
34:31The agitation began on July 6th with blackface protests and hunger strikes.
34:37Talks offered a brief pause in August, but a September 30th meeting failed to break the deadlock.
34:44Well, the LPST rankholders here feel that making the teacher-student ratio 1 to 25 could actually solve the problem
34:51which the government has not accepted.
34:53And they are back to the streets outside the secretary, hoping that this will be accepted and they can call
34:58off this protest real soon.
35:00Till then, they are not moving out of this area.
35:02A letter is broadcast.
35:05Now we talk about three stories.
35:08Why?
35:08About five points.
35:10One will be updated at two points.
35:11In the first place, needs more of the rule- ecosist to do
35:15which we have your commitments and need that.
35:18Just the rest, all because you have their commitments.
35:18Without them, everyone needs to act as Language.
35:19There will be много renovations.
35:20Those have to act as the LPST, have to act as UPST.
35:24So you have to act as the number of tables remaining.
35:28They know exactly the part of this implementation.
35:30Without them,幼因為 professors are clear and team of professions.
35:32Mr. V.T. Satishan says the state cannot afford new posts now.
35:38But when teachers are driven to shave their heads, go hungry and even eat grass to be heard,
35:45can their desperation be ignored?
35:49The Shivimol KG, Bureau Report, India Today.
35:57Well, with that, we come to an end on the Kerala segment over to my colleague Anagar.
36:07Thank you, Shibi.
