00:07In a clear rebuke of President Trump and his party, almost every single U.S. Senate,
00:13House and governor race shifted to the left last night compared to the 2024 presidential
00:18election. Going into last night, Democrats needed to pick up four Senate seats. By Wednesday morning,
00:38they had netted seven, including in states like South Carolina and Kansas,
00:42that seemed out of reach for Democrats just a few months ago.
00:56Here is the AP's vote shift map for Texas, which compares yesterday's Senate race to the margin in
01:02the 2024 presidential election. As you can see, every single Texas county shifted to the left,
01:08including these southwestern counties with large Latino populations. Trump had previously made a
01:14headway here. But last night, it was clear those gains from 2024 would not hold this time around.
01:32Democrats were able to pick up seats across every region in the country, including deeply Republican
01:38territory in the Midwest. Kansas, which elected a Democratic senator last night, has not had a
01:45Democratic senator in almost a century. Even in the Deep South, which is long considered Republican
01:56territory, Democrats made significant headway. Take a look at the shifts here in Mississippi, where
02:03Democrat Scott Collum is holding a razor-thin margin. If he wins, Collum will be the first black senator
02:09elected by Mississippi since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era.
02:13I just want to start off by thanking the people of Mississippi. From the bottom of my heart, whether you
02:21voted for me or not, thank you for using your power to exercise your vote yesterday. I'm very proud of
02:30our state.
