On India Today's debate broadcast, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) national spokesperson Sathya Kumar and political analyst Sushil Rajkumar spar over former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's criticism of Chief Minister Vijay's administration after six months in power. Responding to allegations regarding deteriorating law and order, Sathya Kumar defends the state government by stating, 'officers are still loyal to DMK' and claiming certain officials are functioning as opposition agents. He points to TVK's drive against corruption and challenges inherited from past administrations. In response, Sushil Rajkumar labels these explanations as excuses, contending that the leadership has failed to act decisively, maintain public order, or manage administrative machinery while retaining key senior officials. The panel examines the unfolding political showdown between the TVK and DMK over accountability, governance reforms, and administrative control in Tamil Nadu.

00:00Joining me on this broadcast, we've got Sushil Rajkumar, political analyst, as well as Satya Kumar, TVK national spokesperson.
00:07Good evening. I want to come to both of you and thank you for your time.
00:10Mr. Satya Kumar, I'd like to begin with you on your response to former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
00:14when he questions the work ethic of Chief Minister Vijay and once again calls him a weak Chief Minister.
00:21So, Akshita, if you may note the statements made by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K.
00:27Stalin,
00:27I only see it as a mirror for himself and he's trying to use the name of our Chief Minister.
00:34The reason being, whatever he said, if you look at the law and order issue or even the drug issue
00:41that he was mentioning,
00:42everything was going around in the period of DMK and he's now trying to accuse us.
00:49Just, we are six months in the government and putting all the blame of the Tamil Nadu's crisis on us
00:57is definitely not acceptable.
00:59It is only a political rhetoric and definitely it is not showing the signs of what is our governance is
01:05all about.
01:06Let me bring out a few important aspects.
01:08Akshita, we know that Tamil Nadu, we narrated about a legal issue of about 15 lakh crore debt.
01:15In spite of the fiscal tables not in our favour, we are trying to deliver to the people in whatever
01:20form possible,
01:21restructuring the schemes which are supposed to reach the people with different strata of the society,
01:30who beat women or children or even with respect to some of the schemes that we are trying to bring
01:36in where our standard governance practice is no corruption.
01:40And when Mr. Stalin is making a statement about K Nehru,
01:44there is an ED dossier given by the Enforcement Directorate based on which the Madrasai Court directed on 20th February
01:50to register an FIR
01:52and the DMK government did not do it.
01:55Now, in the month of June, the DVAC registered the case based on the Madrasai Court direction
02:00and TVAC is not in the game of political vendetta.
02:04Whatever Mr. MK Stalin is speaking, he is trying to speak because he is jealous
02:09and he is not able to accept the fact that the DMK has lost the election
02:14and they are trying to withhold their vote bank.
02:18I would see in that direction.
02:19But Mr. Satya Kumar, you know the point that he has made on law and order
02:23is something that is constantly being raised now that nothing has changed on the ground on law and order.
02:28You still hear of these horrifying crimes and this time instead of a DMK functionary, it is TVK functionaries.
02:34Definitely, Akshita.
02:35In fact, I also appreciate you many times.
02:37I have seen your tweet in the X platform where you actually raise questions about the law and order.
02:42I really appreciate it because when we came to the power, we never committed for zero crime.
02:47Zero crime is not possible in any state.
02:48But I am not justifying also, Akshita.
02:50I am not justifying.
02:51But the fact is, we are taking steps to see to that the pervasive effect of the law and order
02:57issue of the DMK government is rectified.
03:00See, for example, when you ask a question about the prison breakout,
03:03my answer is, we have formed the government, but the officials are not in our control.
03:11All those officials are still loyal to the DMK.
03:13This sounds like a long list of excuses.
03:16No, no, no.
03:16Akshita, I am not giving excuses.
03:18It is a fact.
03:20I would like to place it on the national media.
03:22Some of the government officers are functioning like a DMK agents.
03:27I am asking a simple question, Akshita.
03:29We have not ordered for the prison breakout.
03:31No chief minister will order.
03:32If it is happening in a prison, that too continuously in different prisons, and Anbil Meirish is getting arrested, why
03:39is it happening?
03:40And all these officials were recruited by DMK government.
03:43Now we have to take disciplinary action on them.
03:46I am again repeating.
03:47The officers are still loyal to DMK.
03:51Let me put across in the vote bank politics also.
03:53If you see the postal votes, officers did not vote for TVK.
03:59Offices did not vote for TVK.
04:01Postal ballot alone, if you see, the DMK was leading.
04:04It means the officers are still loyal.
04:06They wanted the DMK to come to power because they were in hand in glove with the DMK in corruption.
04:13That's a grave charge you are making, sir.
04:15That's a grave charge.
04:15Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, would you like to respond?
04:17I wanted to bring it in the national media.
04:19That it's hard for the TVK to function because of this?
04:23Absolutely, Akshita.
04:25Absolutely.
04:26Mr. Rajkumar.
04:28No, this is a lame excuse given by the TVK government, by its official spokesman on the national media.
04:35It's very laughable.
04:36And Mr. Vijay is known to speak too much in the films.
04:41But now for the past three, four months, he's keeping silent.
04:45That is what Mr. Stalin is pointing out.
04:48That Mr. Vijay should open his mouth and open his eyes and see what is happening in the state.
04:52The deteriorating law and order situation and the crimes against women are continuing in nature.
04:59Because it is Mr. Vijay who talked too much about the crimes.
05:03And he said once the TVK took over the government, we will change everything.
05:08But that has not happened.
05:10And Mr. Vijay is silenced to all the happenings.
05:12On the one side, they are saying that they have eradicated corruption in the state machinery.
05:16But now, yesterday, the school education minister, Mr. Rajkumar is saying that last week, he is saying that somebody brought
05:28a person that he offered five crore for a government posting.
05:32Let them come out who is that person and take action against them.
05:35Now, Mr. Sati Kumar is saying that…
05:37No, but that's not proof of corruption.
05:39If anything, he is saying that, look, this is the offer that came my way.
05:42No, no, no.
05:43Why not you take action against the person who brought the person that he is ready to offer five crore?
05:48That too to a official person who is holding a position in the state education department.
05:56No, this is the continuing thing in the TVK.
05:58And one more minister, today, he is saying, Nirmal Kumar, that somebody is offering 35 crores to purchase MLS from
06:05TVK.
06:06Let them take action against them.
06:08These things, they try to divert the issue from the real issues.
06:11That is the only thing he is doing.
06:13From the beginning, for the past six months, Mr. Vijay and his comrades are doing only the diversion techniques because
06:20they lost the way.
06:21They don't know what to do to the state machinery.
06:24Now, they are blaming the state officials who are working for the government.
06:27Who is heading the government, they will work for the government.
06:30No, Mr. Sati Kumar, ultimately, look, if the DMK was in power and the DMK put forth reasons like officials
06:37are not working under us,
06:38that's a sign of poor administration, of poor governments.
06:43See, the reason that I am saying it, Takshita, see, for example, what has happened is,
06:48let us understand because Sushil Rajkumar is also the beneficiary of the TVK government's steps that we are taking.
06:53Let him understand that.
06:54Let him speak from the heart.
06:55I will tell you what is a fact.
06:57See, he is smiling.
06:58He knows that DMK Stalin did not deliver.
07:00Really?
07:00Mr. Rajkumar, you think so?
07:03No.
07:04No, my friend, my friend, he is saying so many things.
07:07Let him say.
07:08Let him say.
07:08I am just laughing.
07:09Let him say.
07:10No problem.
07:11I'll explain.
07:12I'll explain.
07:13Sushil would have voted for Whistle, but still his heart is in DMK.
07:16Anyway, so the point is...
07:17No, I like Mr. Rajkumar, but I don't like Mr. Vijay.
07:20That's the problem.
07:21So, the point is, the point is, Sakshita, see, what has happened is, we are trying to deliver the governance
07:28to the people.
07:29And most of the time, the officers today are frustrated because we are trying to eradicate corruption.
07:36And corruption has gone away literally in the grassroots level.
07:39Moment corruption has gone away, they bend the rule of law and say work cannot get over because they show
07:45some lame excuses and the people are suffering.
07:47Now, tell me honestly, when my Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Talbaji Vijay said no corruption and the steps
07:53are taken for the corruption to be eradicated,
07:56then ultimate result is what is happening is the officers are not delivering.
08:00When the officers are not delivering, we don't want to withhold saying that officers are doing their duty.
08:05We wanted to say to the people, the officers are not delivering.
08:07There is one veterinary doctor, you would have seen Akshita, he went out to scold a village woman.
08:14Immediately, by looking at that video, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Talbaji Vijay called up the respective minister, told
08:21her to remove the veterinary doctor.
08:25All that we can do is, we can only transfer them, put them on a waiting list.
08:29I am making this statement in the national media because we are a party with a two-year-old party,
08:35came to power and all these officers are still loyal to the DMK, primarily to DMK, not even to any
08:40DMK.
08:40But that's not the DMK's fault, sir.
08:43Then the TVK has to turn things around.
08:45Look, I still call it an excuse because Mr. Satyakumar, the people have voted you to power knowing.
08:49And the TVK, Mr. Vijay, knew the challenges of being a new political party in power.
08:55So, ultimately, that means there will be questions about administration, about controlling the situation in Tabarnadu.
09:01And then what next?
09:03Your concern is right.
09:04You tell me what steps we should take, being part of the governance.
09:08We can only transfer them.
09:09We can only try with the new officials.
09:11They are the steel frames of the government.
09:14Can I charge saying they all were recruited?
09:16They were all recruited during the DMK period.
09:19And their performance was not checked or they were actually hand in glow with the minister or the councillors of
09:25the DMK, where in the grassroots level they were doing the corruption.
09:28It is deep-rooted in the system.
09:31It is deep-rooted in the system.
09:32That's what I told you as statistics, where these government officials, in the postal votes, they did not vote for
09:37the TVK.
09:38It does not, does it not reflect that they did not vote for the government?
09:41No, but simple, sir, intent alone doesn't cut it.
09:44You know, they will have to be action on the ground as well to do something about this.
09:48Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, ultimately the TVK is saying that, look, we are trying, but it's not easy.
09:53And that's because of the DMK and the people who are there, you know, calling the shots.
09:59No, Mr. Sati Kumar really thinks what he is saying is correct.
10:04Let's say the TVK government take action against the official, which they blame, that they support the DMK.
10:09But one official, I know who is the nominee of the BJP government, who is nominated by the election commission,
10:15he is still continuing as the chief secretary of this state.
10:18Why Mr. Vijay is not taking action against him?
10:21Let Mr. Sushil Rajkumar explain that.
10:23Why he is continuing with Mr. Sushil Rajkumar?
10:28All IAS officers are recruited by UPSC.
10:31All IAS officers work in the state.
10:34Why are you continuing with the election commission nominated chief secretary?
10:36Why are you continuing with the election commission nominated chief secretary when the whole country is against the election commission
10:42and demanding the resignation of Mr. Yanis Kumar?
10:45And he has appointed this Sushil Rajkumar, who is a retired official, and you have given extension to him.
10:50Why are you continuing with, why your government is continuing with Mr. Sushil Rajkumar?
10:54Let him be transferred and let him be thrown out.
10:56Let there be a new face.
10:58Because he is, earlier he was working with Mr. Yadapati Palli Chami and Mr. M.K. Stalin.
11:03Why don't we change the chief secretary first?
11:06If you really feel that.
11:07Akshita, it's not about the chief secretary.
11:10So we are not identifying a particular officer and saying chief secretary is delivering.
11:15That's the reason chief secretary is there in that position.
11:18Even chief secretary's words, certain times officials are not hearing.
11:22Please understand, when officer cannot be a person.
11:24Sir, name and shame them.
11:26That's what, Akshita, we have transferred so many people, Akshita.
11:29Even when the prison breakout happened, we immediately, we immediately changed the officer.
11:35And there was one illegal arrest that was made, Mr. Kalayarasan, a renowned economist in Chennai.
11:40Immediately, Honorable Chief Minister called him and spoke to him.
11:43And then, subsequently, the officers were all transferred and posted to other places.
11:48We are in a situation where there are limited number of officers.
11:52We can only test them by posting in different places, transfer them.
11:56Within the limited amount of, within the limited officers, we can only try and test.
12:03But whereas the DMK were using the officials for corruption, so many PCA cases are there where officials were involved.
12:09Take, for example, Taskmark. Take, for example, the MAWS department where K. Nehru was involved in corruption.
12:17Anubil Mahesh case. Offices were involved.
12:19All these cases are also being investigated right now.
12:24Yes, there are grave allegations, but they're all being investigated right now.
12:27What I've run out of time, Mr. Satya Kumar and Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, thank you for joining us here on
12:32India Today.
12:33Ultimately, you're seeing now the showdown between Chief Minister and former Chief Minister on intent on administration, governance and law
12:42and order.
12:42It's been six months now of the TVK in power in Tamil Nadu.
