A major political row has erupted in Karnataka following price hikes on Nandini dairy products, including butter, ghee, and paneer, alongside sharp increases in state bus fares. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party staged symbolic protests across Bengaluru, including at the central bus stand, accusing the Congress-led government of fiscal mismanagement and running an empty treasury. Amid the economic pressure, the Karnataka government approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking financial assistance for 177 drought-affected taluks and demanding minimum support price revisions for sugarcane farmers. Concurrently, the state government faced criticism over delayed payments under the Gruha Lakshmi guarantee scheme after acknowledging treasury fund constraints before the Karnataka High Court. Adding to political activities in the state capital, members of the INDIA bloc staged demonstrations at Freedom Park demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and calling for the scrapping of the Special Summary Revision process.

00:13Vannakam, namaskara, good afternoon and a big welcome to India Today So South, the daily news bulletin where we get
00:20you the news that dominates the southern part of India as well.
00:22And in a moment from now I will be joined by my colleagues from the respective states who will be
00:27getting the latest updates and ground reports from the southern states as well.
00:30Now let's kick start the bulletin with news coming in from the state of Karnataka.
00:42Just days after the milk prices have been increased in Karnataka, the Nandini milk prices and now one more shock
00:48for the people of Karnataka.
00:50Now Nandini butter and ghee prices and paneer prices have gone up.
00:55The government is saying subsequently when the milk prices increase, the butter, ghee and paneer of course would increase as
01:01well.
01:01One litre of Nandini ghee was supposed to be costing 7.72 rupees after taxation and now it's around 8
01:10.50.
01:10So that's an increase of 77 rupees as well and that's the big update coming in that butter and ghee
01:17prices have gone up.
01:18The revised prices came into effect starting from today.
01:22The diary products are not the only things that have become costlier in the recent days and the bus fare
01:27also has gone up.
01:28The Karnataka government, because of the diesel increase in prices, bus fares and several other essentials have also gone up.
01:34Karnataka BJP has now slammed the state government over a successive price hike with protesting empty bowls.
01:40The BJP alleged that despite Karnataka being among the highest GST paying states, the state treasury was running empty.
01:48And in fact, the BJP has dubbed the Congress government as a bankrupt and pauper sarkar, accusing of its gross
01:54financial mismanagement.
01:57This morning, BJP entered the majestic big central bus stand in Bengaluru, held masks of D.K. Shukumar and Bairati
02:04Basavra,
02:05stand-first ministers with a bowl.
02:06In fact, a symbolic protest of begging in front of the commuters asking the financial coffer to be filled in
02:12as well.
02:13And not just that, they also distributed roses to the commuters sitting in the bus as a symbolic protest.
02:19Listen to the voices on the story.
02:23The Congress government taking the 40 percent commission.
02:27Now they are rising 40 percent.
02:3060 percent.
02:3160 percent.
02:3360 percent.
02:34Sir, Chief Minister is blaming central government saying they increased the diesel prices.
02:37The diesel price.
02:42The highest tax comes to the state government, not central government.
02:47If the diesel price is high, the highest tax comes to the state government, not central government.
02:54So let us withdraw the tax, state government have a right to withdraw, withdraw it.
03:03So highest commission, highest profit you want in the diesel.
03:08So you are not reducing.
03:10Okay.
03:11Today the Karnataka people are regretting why this government has come.
03:15They have increased all the prices.
03:19Today the cost of living in Bangalore and Karnataka has gone up.
03:24See the bus prices today, for the first time in the history, 40 percent of the prices have been increased.
03:32Normally 5 percent or 6 percent, they used to increase like that.
03:36Today they have increased around 40 percent.
03:39And today, you know, today you need to encourage people travelling in public transport.
03:44By hiking like this, people will start using their own vehicles, sir.
03:50The BJP in fact took it to the streets and the bus stand, the protest in fact giving out flowers,
03:55roses to the commuters, asking them to understand why the financial situation of Karnataka government is quite bad.
04:02And that's the protest this morning was taken up by the BJP as well.
04:06Sagai Raj is joining me live on this, Sagai.
04:08Two issues for the BJP here, the milk prices, now the butter and ghee prices and the bus hike also,
04:13the ticket prices have been hiked as well.
04:15What does the government have to say about subsequent price hike in all essential commodities?
04:24The government has justified stating that this particular price hike has been done because of the fuel hike which has
04:30been done from last one year.
04:31And they have also claimed that from last one year, they haven't increased the price.
04:36Likewise, when it comes to the diesel, every now and then there is a price increase on the fuel.
04:42And they are forced to increase the prices because they are unable to take care of the expenditure.
04:47And especially when it comes to the fuel expenditure.
04:50And they claim that they have been forced to increase the prices and they have increases only up to 9
04:56rupees according to them.
04:57Whereas, it also comes to close to 50% in few places.
05:01For an example, if a person travels from Majestic to Sriwajinagar, he has to pay 6 rupees more.
05:07Earlier it was 12 rupees, now he has to pay 18 rupees.
05:10Though the government has justified they have increased only 6 rupees.
05:13But when you see by percentage, it is close to 50% which has been hiked.
05:17Likewise, they have increased in multiple places.
05:20But when it comes to BMTC, they have increased only up to 9 rupees.
05:24They have not increased above 9 rupees.
05:26And 9 rupees is the maximum price.
05:29But still, people are stating that the government should have managed their finances well rather than putting burden on the
05:36common man.
05:40Right, Sakai, I request you to stay back with me.
05:42More breaking news coming in.
05:44Let's dip across to some more breaking news right now.
05:54Karnataka Chief Minister writes to the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, seeking drought assistance and also raking up
06:02the issue of sugarcane farmers and the protest that has been ongoing in the northern part of Karnataka.
06:06The demands that have been raised by them.
06:08And he has sought immediate intervention of the Prime Minister in terms of the drought relief.
06:13Karnataka Chief Minister has now returned to the Prime Minister asking him to intervene immediately on multiple issues concerning the
06:20state.
06:21He has also told the Prime Minister that 177 taluks have been declared drought affected and has sought over 3
06:27,700 crores in relief of financial assistance.
06:31On the sugarcane farmer issues, he has sought the increase of the MSP, the minimum selling price and the restoration
06:38of the FRP base recovery rate to 9.5%.
06:42And this is the big news coming in.
06:44Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shur Kumar has written to the Prime Minister seeking his intervention on multiple issues concerning
06:51the state of Karnataka.
06:55Saghai Raj continues to be live with me on this Saghai.
06:58In fact, the Prime Minister had written to the Chief Minister on Karnataka Rajotsava or the Kannada Rajotsava wishing him
07:05for November 1st.
07:07Now, in turn, D.K. Shur Kumar has written to the Prime Minister.
07:10Take us through the details of this letter.
07:15If you notice, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished D.K. Shur Kumar on Kannada Rajotsava and he has
07:22also said that it is his first Rajotsava as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
07:28And he has also mentioned in the letter the kind of contribution that the central government has made, whether it
07:33is a metro station or a Mysore expressway.
07:37So, he has highlighted few of the contributions that the central government has made to the state of Karnataka and
07:43the rich heritage and the culture of the state.
07:46Replying to the letter, Karnataka Chief Minister has thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his wishes and the kind
07:53of contribution he has made.
07:54But he has also highlighted the pending projects which should get the approval of the central government, whether it is
07:59Mekedatu, Apar Badra project or Kalasa Bandoori.
08:03And he has also sought an appointment with the Prime Minister of India where he can come with the whole
08:08party to meet him and try to explain to him the broad situation in the state of Karnataka.
08:13And he has also highlighted the sugarcane farmers' problem where they have protested, demanding the increase in the price which
08:20has been given to the farmers and also increase the MSP.
08:23So, there are various demands which have been put across by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shurum Kumar to the
08:29letter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
08:35Right, Sagai, thank you for bringing us the latest updates as well and more breaking news coming in from the
08:40state of Karnataka.
08:45And this is regarding the Karnataka government flagship scheme or the guarantee scheme Gruha Lakshmi and questions being raised over
08:52this as the delayed payments are coming in.
08:55With the state admitting before the Karnataka High Court just recently that February and March 2025, they didn't pay because
09:02of financial constraints of the Treasury.
09:04The admission in the High Court has now triggered a strong reaction from the opposition BJP while the Chief Minister
09:10and the government have said that they have released 7,000-odd crores as per the State Guarantee Implementation Authority
09:16with release of the money benefiting 1.24 crore women in the state.
09:21The BJP has accused the Congress government of cheating women and failing to honour the guarantees.
09:27Remember, this had become a big issue in last year's assembly session when BJP questioned the government as to why
09:32two months payment has not been delivered.
09:35The government back then on the floor of the House had said there was a technical issue or server issue.
09:39But now in the High Court of Karnataka, a final submission or objection that the statement filed by the government
09:46of Karnataka has said that or mentioned that they didn't have money to pay because of the Treasury lacking funds
09:52for this specific scheme as well.
09:54Listening to what Mahesh Tengenka, the BJP legislator had to say.
10:00Will the join for election 23, 2020 Vice President of Karnataka, the 17th century of the House of Karnataki was
10:07signed into the House of Karnataka.
