A month from today, Victorians will hold a state election that's being closely watched by politicians around the country. It's widely expected to see the end of Labor’s 12 years in power but for much of the early campaign period the polls hadn't been pointing to a clear win for the coalition, either. In the mix is One Nation - about to face the biggest electoral test in the party's history - and whether it can turn popularity into power.

00:02It's never a good sign when a party dumps its leader months out from an election, then
00:07kicks them on the way out.
00:08I am not Daniel Andrews.
00:11I am not Jacinta Allen.
00:14There aren't many who believe Ben Carroll can lead Labor to a fourth term.
00:18Apart from the it's time factor, Labor has been battered by corruption scandals, budget
00:24blowouts and crumbling highways.
00:26Ben Carroll has acted quickly to call a Royal Commission, cut back major projects, fix
00:31potholes and is promising a big spending free dental scheme.
00:36But he's still polling in the low 20s, just behind One Nation and well behind the Coalition
00:42under their young new leader Jess Wilson, who's in just her first term of Parliament.
00:48There are at least 35 to 40 electorates that are genuine three way contests, but based
00:54on the current polling where the Coalition is actually performing better than the other
00:58two, it will start winning those three way contests.
01:01After cycling through leader after leader in the political wilderness, the Liberals have
01:06finally united behind Jess Wilson.
01:09I want to bring hope back to Victoria.
01:11She's campaigning on tax cuts, law and order and a rethink of the multi-billion dollar suburban
01:18rail loop.
01:19One Nation is also running on law and order, a strong anti-renewables campaign and simply
01:25not being a major party, despite hoping this election will open the door to genuine political
01:31power.
01:32Nobody need fear of One Nation government.
01:34Early on, One Nation had high hopes for this election back when it was polling roughly
01:38level with the major parties, looking at holding the balance of power or even being part of
01:43a minority government.
01:44There is only one coalition in Victoria, that is the Liberals and the Nationals, and that
01:49is not changing.
01:50A month out, the Coalition has pulled well ahead of Labor and One Nation in the polls.
01:56One Nation voters, for example, some of them are moving over to the Coalition because
02:00they suddenly have come to the realisation that the Coalition is probably the best place
02:03to remove the government.
02:05Labor has made some stunning electoral comebacks in Victoria before.
02:09This would be its biggest yet.
