Volvo EX60 gets a full test drive and review here, with a close look at Scandinavian design, practicality, electronics, range, charging, towing and real-world driving impressions. The car looks understated next to rivals like the BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ, but the details matter: a 523-litre boot, a 58-litre frunk, a minimalist Google-based cockpit and plenty of rear-seat space.

Marek also digs into the quirks, including a sensitive occupant detection system, awkward menu logic, profile-based seat settings and a few interior annoyances. On the road, the EX60 feels light, quiet and comfortable, though the steering can be vague and there is some tire and powertrain noise at low speeds. Performance, charging speeds, towing capacity and parking manoeuvres are all covered, along with the P6, P10 and P12 powertrain options.

For viewers searching for an electric SUV review, Volvo EX60 test drive, Scandinavian EV design, real-world range, DC charging, towing test and family EV comparison, this review brings together the key facts and the everyday usability questions that matter most. It is a useful watch for anyone comparing premium electric SUVs, Google Automotive infotainment and long-distance EV ownership.

00:00today let me take you on a test drive in the new volvo ex60 an electric
00:05suv which should be as easy to live with as assembling ikea furniture
00:11i know this could mean two different things
00:20so let's get on with it shall we
00:24um do you have like a screwdriver or something
00:29honey am i caring
00:36always
00:43first i'd like to point out that some of my experiences with the ex60 may stem from lack of
00:50full access to the car now to fully adapt to the user most likely you need to be the primary
00:56user
00:57with full configuration privileges this isn't unusual these days although it's a double-edged
01:03sword but more on that in a moment because at first glance the volvo ex60
01:12looks promising
01:17the ex60 measures just over 480 centimeters in length and is 10 centimeters longer than the
01:23xc60 its wheelbase is 297 centimeters roughly the same as the bigger xc90 dimensions wise the ex60
01:33falls between the bmw ix3 and the mercedes-benz glceq compared to its competitors the volvo has
01:39the most understated design at the front there is no illuminated grille as that would be in poor taste
01:45i'm looking at you bmw and mercedes bmw recently decided to copy volvo's simple profile by adopting
01:53those winglet door handles in the back we have the volvo hallmark tail lamps which run down the d
01:58pillars however here the upper part is on the tailgate so when you open the boot only the lower
02:04part remains visible i don't think anyone should have any troubles recognizing this is a volvo also
02:12no one should complain about its practicality the boot capacity is 523 liters including over 60 liters of
02:21underfloor storage this hidden compartment is deep enough to accommodate a carry-on size suitcase
02:27and probably all this mess what the is this no that's not right
02:55volvo is so kind as to even provide some of the trunk dimensions the floor is 105 by 105 centimeters
03:03and it's 45 centimeters from the floor to the cargo cover the cargo cover fits under the floor
03:10my three random suitcases fit under the cargo cover and i can still fit a golf bag as for the
03:17carry-on
03:17suitcase i can store it either under the floor or in the frunk which adds 58 more liters to this
03:23car's cargo capacity
03:25before i show you the rear passenger space let me talk about an issue i discovered and i'm not talking
03:32about these weird winglet door handles at least they're not retractable or pop-up or whatever kind because
03:39those are shit and these are actually okay ish
03:57volvo has a very sensitive or perhaps i should say badly calibrated occupant detection system on a number
04:04of occasions i walked away from an empty car the car locks automatically and then the alarm goes off
04:10alerting me that someone is inside and there is nobody inside at first i thought it was a problem
04:16with say a jacket left on the rear seat but no i took everything off the rear bench and placed
04:22it on
04:22the floor behind the seats nothing moves and the system still detects someone is inside the vehicle
04:28in that case it's best to return to the car and click on the on-screen message to deactivate the
04:33alarm
04:34otherwise the system may reactivate is it possible to completely disable this feature unfortunately no
04:41you can enable occupancy mode but then the air conditioning will remain on and the car will not
04:46shut off completely and that's not the point there's plenty of space in the back after all this car has
04:52almost three meters long wheelbase there is good leg room and headroom i'm 175 centimeters tall the floor
05:00is flat in the middle there's third zone climate control usbc ports dart door pockets and cup holders in
05:07the armrest let's see ah there we go the backrest angle is adjustable overall there isn't much to complain about
05:17well as it's me the ice fix anchor points are only in the rear and not in the front passenger
05:27seat and
05:28this is a safe swedish family suv so oh well
05:42the volvo ex-60s cockpit is minimalist just a few buttons on the steering wheel a small display in front
05:50of the driver and a large display in the center below is just this physical volume roller the display
05:59in front of the driver shows map navigation directions as well as range battery charge and
06:05speed of course detailed information about energy consumption is only on the central display in an ideal
06:12world where electric mobility is a stress-free reality this wouldn't be a problem in a world where
06:19you're never sure whether the next charger is working or how much power it'll output energy consumption
06:25information can be a bit more important it's a shame that such data cannot be displayed even as a
06:33summary here on the side of the screen where information from things like multimedia or your phone
06:39would appear in order to meet european safety requirements volvo had to add controls for certain
06:45features in the form of physical switchgear for example all light settings are on the screen but
06:50physically switching between the low beam and automatic mode is achieved by pulling harder on the
06:56turn signal stock and how do you flash the high beams you have to pull the same stock but not
07:03all the
07:03way in in an emergency situation when you break hard sound the horn and perhaps flash the headlights
07:09you'll likely change the headlight mode but not flash the high beams don't ask me how i know but maybe
07:15this is just a problem in countries with more aggressive driving style than in scandinavia
07:22however regardless of where you live burying everything in multi-step menus on the display
07:30is a problem and linking some of those settings to user profiles is even worse
07:36probably profiles can be linked to smartphones or access cards but wouldn't be simpler to add two
07:42or three buttons here on the door and you know just to save your seat settings seat settings cannot be
07:49stored any other way than by assigning them to a user profile what is this an xpeng this is a
07:57move from
07:58tesla playbook as is adjusting wing mirrors using buttons on the steering wheel but in tesla it somehow
08:04worked better here i feel as if volvo is trying to discourage me from getting my way so i just
08:11don't
08:12bother interacting with the infotainment system unless i really have to for example despite setting
08:17two separate user profiles for two drivers some global settings revert to default like chosen by the
08:25primary user of this vehicle or something for example i have to dig up the wireless charger settings
08:30menu every time to activate it there are more such minor issues but i just can't be bothered
08:37other compliance afterthoughts include physical buttons for the hazard warning lights and the window
08:43defroster these can be controlled from the screen but to comply with the european regulations
08:47there are physical buttons mounted on the ceiling above the rearview mirror
08:53the infotainment system is powered by google automotive so you can log in with your google
08:58account and access your navigation history favorite apps podcasts etc functionally the cockpit makes a
09:06good first impression but after a few days i noticed a couple of issues let's start with the creaking door
09:12panels under the elbow it's on both sides of the cockpit so it's probably not a one-time thing
09:18i'm also not a fan of the location of the grab handles i'd prefer them to be closer to the
09:23actual
09:24door handles these here are harder to reach when the doors are open wide
09:29the door pockets could have some shape molded in so that my bottle doesn't tip over
09:35that large cubby on the floor extends under the console throw your keys in there and they will
09:40disappear under the console when you brake or accelerate
09:45other than that it's a really nice interior it's bright it's spacious there are good cup holders
09:51a large storage compartment down here in the center instead of a glove box the materials are pleasant to
09:58touch and this is good scandy design only spoiled by somewhat unintuitive electronics there's just too much
10:06of initial friction and the learning curve is a bit too steep for me to get comfortable with this car
10:11i usually get used to some quirks after a couple of days but here after a week
10:17i'm just fed up but maybe driving will make up for this interface which is clearly made for people
10:25cleverer than myself
10:50so
10:56my first impressions driving the ex60 are also positive the car feels light and easy visibility is good
11:03despite very thick base of the a pillar the driver assistance systems actually assist rather than
11:09destruct the sound insulation is excellent the suspension absorbs bumps well and this is where i
11:15could end the test drive segment of this episode job done like and subscribe alas i have a few comments
11:25firstly handling is light to the point of being vague so sometimes it's difficult to feel the line and
11:32sometimes i had to correct mid corner this may be due to the fact that during this week i'm also
11:38driving
11:38a lexus rz with steer by wire variable steering ratio so it's hard to go back it really is
11:50personally with an einz and a lot of the signals on the car the bike is the makes the sound
11:52of the other
11:53party on the other side
11:53so i can still hear both the unpleasant tire noise and a certain sound that i can't quite pinpoint but
12:00i suspect
12:00it's from the powertrain it occurs at low speeds but it's not the pedestrian warning system tire
12:06noise can probably be fixed with different tires the second noise i don't know
12:15good thing the central display is slightly convex this way designers minimize reflections
12:22visible from the outside and it works mazda or chungun should take notice after all volvo
12:29is also owned by chinese company isa can be deactivated with a single button on the steering
12:35wheel and that's also a plus so what about performance range and charging
12:47the volvo ex60 comes in three powertrain options rear wheel drive p6 with 374 horsepower all wheel
12:55drive p10 with 510 horsepower and all-wheel drive p12 with 680 horsepower net battery capacity is
13:041891 and 112 kilowatt hours respectively by the way the p12 will arrive in the showrooms in early 2027
13:13this is the p10 which should have a range of around 660 kilometers in the combined cycle with energy
13:20consumption of around 15.7 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers i've never got this good a result
13:25but after a few days of easy driving i managed to get it down to below 19 kilowatt hours per
13:31100 kilometers
13:31which still means a range of around 500 kilometers depending on weather and road conditions
13:39region braking comes in several flavors there's automatic mode as well as low and high region setting
13:47and these can be paired with either full stop or rolling which one would you use most likely at 120
13:56kilometers per hour the car used around 25 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers which means a range of
14:01around 360 kilometers realistically 250 300 kilometers between charges from 10 to 80 percent
14:15and at 150 kilowatt charge it takes just 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent using the former
14:25and probably at least half an hour using the latter but volvo doesn't say how long exactly when i charged
14:31on a 200 kilowatt dc charger the onboard computer estimated i'll spend around 40 minutes charging from
14:3820 something to 100 percent the ex60 can also ac charge at 22 kilowatts it's bi-directional assuming
14:46your charger and network support it claimed 0 to 100 kilometers per hour time is 4.6 seconds i checked
14:54and
14:54i got 4.3 seconds both in sport and normal modes under heavy braking you can feel this car weighs
15:01well over two tons
15:06and now my reverse parking test i reverse from a four meter wide street into a three meter wide gate
15:06the
15:06volvo ex60 p6 can tow up to two tons all will drive variants meaning p10 and p12 can tow up
15:13to 2.4 tons
15:14the car can also take up to 100 kilograms dynamic load on the roof there is no tow hitch load
15:20data
15:24and now my reverse parking test i reverse from a four meter wide street into a three meter wide gate
15:30the volvo ex60 doesn't have any fancy four wheel steering system so the 11.3 meters turning circle
15:37is achieved solely by the amount the front wheels can turn left or right you can see that once i'm
15:43in my
15:43driveway i have to correct because i didn't turn the steering wheel all the way to top dead center fast
15:48enough still it's good for its size as standard volvo ex60 has around 18 centimeters of ground clearance
15:59there is also an off-road ish cross-country variant which has between 19 and 23 centimeters of ground
16:06clearance if equipped with air suspension both variants can wade in water up to 45 centimeters deep
16:18no waiting today but i will perform my diagonal approach test in normal mode as well as an off-road
16:24mode the ex60 coped well i'm curious how the cross-country variant on all-terrain tires would cope
16:31in slightly more challenging conditions
16:34so
16:36so
16:44so
16:45so
17:06price of the volvo ex60 started 62 990 euro for the p6 it costs three grand to jump up to
17:15p10
17:15and nine grand to p12 this test car is a p10 ultra all-wheel drive with options it costs 79
17:24000
17:25720 euro
17:28the volvo ex60 is a car for people with modest car history i'm not talking about age but about how
17:35many
17:35cars they have experienced this is a car for people who are open to new tech and who don't care
17:40that
17:40back in the day some things were done differently if you don't mind i'll stick to cars which i understand
17:48and which i think are more fun to drive what do you think about the volvo ex60 let me know
