We're standing, looking out on the sunny Soho streets from the window of artist Curtis Kulig's beautiful, well-appointed loft and ad-hoc studio, and we're wondering if we should buy a whole bunch of Sharpies at Duane Reade. We mean, of course, a handful of permanent markers and doodling two simple words over and over (and over!) again on a notebook wouldn't guarantee the same amount of success and notoriety, but it would be the first step in following his path to art-star status.

00:02What makes a creative person?
00:04I think somebody that's willing to push boundaries and try something different.
00:08I guess think a little bit outside the box.
00:10It's a little bit of a risk, but I think that that's what it takes.
00:14I grew up in Minot, North Dakota.
00:16I grew up around a lot of artists.
00:19My dad was an artist, my uncles, my cousins.
00:22Being around that, I guess, was just like, it felt like a normal thing.
00:26I never really figured that it would lead to my profession necessarily,
00:31but it grew into what I do today.
00:35My work is very repetitive in paintings and that sort of thing.
00:39It's very text-based.
00:40Love Me happened pretty organically.
00:43It was just an obvious feeling that I was having,
00:46and I transcribed it into penmanship,
00:50and that transcribed into projects and collaborations and so on and so forth.
00:57Vacation for me is going to like Great Jones Spa and like chilling to the day.
01:02It's like vacation.
01:03Just getting away for like three or four hours and then getting back to it.
01:07I would rather be in the studio than anywhere else.
