At 08:36 on Wednesday 28 October 2026, Adif's control centre told a Renfe AVE stopped on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line to reset its LZB and resume at "normal running". "At normal speed?" the driver asked. "Yes." About 17 minutes later, near Urda (Toledo), the AVE ran into the back of an Iryo train standing still on the same track.
UPDATE, Fri 30 Oct: the film was locked on Thursday morning, when the regional government counted 68 dead. By Thursday night the provisional toll was 69 (Centro Integrado de Datos; Transport Ministry). The AITAT investigators' first note puts the impact speed at an estimated 160-200 km/h, pending the on-board recorder data. Details in the pinned comment.
