Transcript
00:00It's like, I don't, I don't know, I don't know.
00:06When we're born, we cry.
00:08And when we're babies, we cry a lot.
00:10But as we get older, we're conditioned to think
00:13that we shouldn't cry anymore, especially not in public.
00:16Why is that?
00:17Why not cry in public, right?
00:19Like, hold it in for what?
00:22It's like a fart.
00:23Like, if you hold a fart in,
00:25you might have a heart attack and die.
00:27I will cry in front of anybody.
00:30Like, I can't prevent that from happening,
00:32but like, it will still make me feel uncomfortable.
00:35Crying used to come off as a form of weakness for me.
00:39I never wanted anyone to see me let my guard down
00:43and notice that I have deep feelings.
00:49I don't cry in public.
00:51I think it's shameful.
00:52Usually, if I feel like I'm going to cry in public,
00:55I feel like it's a good indicator my period is coming.
00:57This is why such things should be tracked at all times.
01:01Every single episode of This Is Us makes me cry.
01:04I recently was watching an episode of This Is Us.
01:07Like, it's not coming out.
01:09Everyone says not to watch This Is Us
01:10unless you want to cry every single time.
01:13So, I make it a point not to watch This Is Us.
01:18I've become one of those people who, like, cries on the street all the time.
01:21Like, if I see, like, a really cute dog.
01:24I will cry anywhere, anytime.
01:29Like, crocodile tears, little soft tears.
01:33It does not matter.
01:34I try to hold it down.
01:36If I'm crying, like, on the train, I try to keep my composure.
01:40Try to be a thug.
01:41When I ran the New York City Marathon, I cried, like, a lot.
01:45But it's actually, like, really hard to cry and run.
01:47So, I wouldn't recommend it.
01:49From young age, boys are told to man up.
01:52And as they get older, men are told to suppress their emotions.
01:55Whereas women aren't.
01:56And as a result of showing their emotions, women are often labeled as sensitive or dramatic.
02:01When I was little, I would, you know, depending on the situation, I would get the suck it
02:04up speech.
02:05Playing, like, baseball and, like, getting hit by a baseball.
02:09And, like, crying and then being told to suck it up and not cry.
02:12And it's like, fuck you, I get hit by a fucking baseball.
02:15It hurts.
02:16Telling a man to man up is taking away his right to cry.
02:21Honestly, I think men crying is so stigmatized because men always have to be strong, macho
02:26mans that are, like, emotionless and robots and can just take care of everything.
02:31When really, guys have feelings, you know?
02:33I saw my dad cry recently for the first time ever.
02:36I, like, really, like, didn't know how to react to that at all.
02:40It was a huge deal when President Obama was crying when he was giving a press conference
02:45for the victims of Sandy Hook.
02:48It was like a thing, like, he's not strong, he's not tough, that's not presidential.
02:52No, that's human.
02:53Like, he's a human being who has emotions.
02:57According to a study, 85% of women and 73% of men said they felt better after crying,
03:04which shows that shedding tears might help remove some of the chemicals that are built
03:08up when stressed.
03:09You are doing your spirit and your heart such a huge disservice by not allowing your body
03:17and your mind to express what it wants to express.
03:22If you notice that you're in a public space and you just have to let the tears come out,
03:26don't stop yourself.
03:27You are entitled to your emotions.
03:28You are entitled to your tears.
03:29If you're afraid to cry, I would say just, like, test the waters.
03:33Go to a sad movie and, like, let yourself cry in the back by yourself.
03:37Feel your feelings and don't let anybody tell you that you can't.
03:40And if they do, then they can go to hell.
03:44Everyone needs a release, so don't be afraid to let those feelings out.
03:47Need a tissue?
