00:01The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Wednesday dismissed Bakelalan Assemblyman Barubian's application
00:07to strike out a RM10 million lawsuit filed by PKR over an alleged breach of a bond after he left
00:14the party in 2020. Justice Roslan Matnoor also ordered the former Selangau MP to pay RM4,000
00:21in legal costs to PKR. In his application, Baru argued that he signed the bond in Kuching on
00:28April 25, 2018, and that his involvement with PKR was confined to Sarawak. He contended that the
00:35claim, even if proven, did not arise in peninsular Malaysia and should therefore not be heard by the
00:41High Court of Malaya. Baru is among 16 former PKR MPs and state assemblymen sued by the party.
00:48PKR Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuzia Saleh filed the suits on its behalf, seeking RM10 million in
00:56damages from each defendant for allegedly breaching the terms of the bond. Under the bond, the
01:01defendants allegedly agreed to pay RM10 million within seven days if they resigned from PKR,
01:08joined another political party, or became independent elected representatives. PKR claimed the defendants
01:15had contested and won parliamentary or state seats under its banner in the 14th general election in
01:212018. The party alleged that the defendants ceased to be members on February 24, 2020,
01:27and subsequently expressed support for political coalitions other than PKR. PKR said it terminated
01:34their memberships on March 11, 2020, and issued certificates confirming the terminations on
01:40March 16 that year. The party also demanded that each defendant pay the RM10 million bond.
