00:00Former Prime Minister Datuk Shri Najib Razak has refused to be associated with the setting
00:08up of 1MDB, saying that the Sovereign Wealth Fund was not his baby. He told the Kuala Lumpur
00:14High Court on Thursday that he was not responsible for the establishment of the company. He told
00:20the prosecution during a cross-examination not to refer 1MDB as his baby, as it came
00:26from the Terengganu Investment Authority. When the prosecution said 1Malaysia was his
00:31brand, Najib replied that it was his brand, but the genesis of 1MDB was not. Najib said
00:38the prosecution was making certain innuendos with the statement that he could not accept.
00:44He also said he confronted fugitive businessman Joe Low about his widely reported lavish lifestyle.
00:52He said Low kept saying that he was doing the purchases of properties and luxury items
00:57for Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The prosecution said Najib could have investigated
01:02the truth of Low's claims, but Najib responded that such an investigation would involve another
01:08government. He also disagreed with the suggestion that he deliberately avoided finding the truth
01:14about Low. In October, the High Court ordered Najib to enter his defence on four counts
01:20of using his position to obtain 2.28 billion ringgit gratification from 1MDB's funds
01:27and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount.
