00:26Welcome to Slamboree.
00:289th May 1999 from St Louis Missouri. WCW have had a rough couple of weeks on Monday Nitro
00:34but the card they've put together here doesn't look too bad at all. Just over 20,000 fans
00:39are in the TWA Dome to see DDP defend his world title against Kevin Nash, we're also going
00:44to find out who's in charge of WCW when President Ric Flair battles Roddy Piper and we've got
00:49Sting vs Goldberg in a one on one match for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
00:54PPV buys are down significantly tonight, we've got 195,000 fans tuning in which is still
01:00a respectable number but it's over 50,000 less than Spring Stampede and nearly 200,000
01:05less than Super Brawl 9. WCW need to get a little goodwill back if they want those numbers to
01:10increase, so let's get started and we'll see how well they did.
01:13As always, thank you for being here and thank you for taking the time out of your day to
01:17watch another PPV review from the Reliving the War series.
01:24We open up with what should be an excellent tag team match, champions Rey Mysterio and
01:29Kidman vs Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit vs Raven and Perry Saturn. On Nitro, the Horsemen
01:34have been the aggressors with Dean and Chris turning heel, Raven and Saturn have also switched
01:38it up to become babyfaces and everyone just loves Mysterio and Kidman so there's nothing
01:42new there. This is a triple threat tag match, first fall to a finish. Former flock teammates
01:47Kidman and Saturn work together to take out the Horsemen first of all but Perry ends up
01:51clotheslining Kidman before dumping him out of the ring with a belly to belly suplex, that
01:55looked pretty rough didn't it? A Horseman sucks chant breaks out in the arena as Malenko goes
02:00to work on Saturn, but Dean and Chris aren't affected by the audience as they hit a dropkick
02:04and suplex combo on Billy Kidman, good stuff here from the Horsemen. Mysterio and Raven then
02:09get involved with Rey impressing with his flashy offense. The alliance between the babyfaces
02:14pretty much ends when Kidman and Benoit team up to take out Raven but Benoit goes after
02:18Kidman seconds later. There are no friends in this triple threat match and Kidman finds
02:23that out the hard way. Kidman fires back with a BK bomb but he narrowly misses a top rope
02:27splash, Raven has to break up a crossface attempt and Saturn takes the disguise with a frog splash
02:33to Benoit's back. The referees lost control here as guys begin coming in and out of the ring,
02:38Rey hits a fantastic moonsault after getting launched to the top turnbuckle, Saturn launches
02:43himself over the top rope to take out a bunch of his opponents, there's a diving headbutt
02:47right there from Chris Benoit while the other competitors were out of the ring, and from
02:51this point on the Horsemen dominate the match but the referee just allowing anyone to get
02:55in the ring whenever they please. The Horsemen even make light of this when Malenko makes
02:59a legal tag, no one really cares. Billy Kidman firing up gets the crowd back into the match
03:05but Saturn's right there to put a stop to any kind of momentum. Benoit then takes advantage
03:09with a few German suplexes, and look, someone was finally able to powerbomb Billy Kidman,
03:14never thought I'd see it but there you go. Kidman performs a dropkick before we go back
03:18to how we started with Billy and Saturn working together. We then get the tag champs and crowd
03:22favourites getting in a ton of offence with Rey pulling off a few assisted hurricanranas,
03:26but when he tries to do this on Perry Saturn he ends up getting powerbombed pretty hard and
03:31Kidman has to pick up the slack. Our match ends when Arn Anderson gets involved and Saturn
03:35takes a spinebuster. Fans want to boo the Horsemen but they also can't help cheering for
03:40double A. We then go back to 1997 when we see someone wearing a sting mask and this guy
03:45stops Kidman from hitting the shooting star press. This allows Raven to hit Billy with
03:49a drape and even flow DDT. The referee isn't sure if he should check on Saturn, he's in
03:54the Texas Cloverleaf, but he decides instead to count Kidman's shoulders to the mat and
03:58we have new tag team champions. Raven and Saturn win the Slamboree opening match. The guy who
04:03helped Raven and Saturn? It was Chris Kenyon. Kenyon's back in WCW and clearly he's still
04:09aligned with Raven.
04:16NWO black and white leader Stevie Ray took on Conan next, we've got minimal storyline heading
04:20into this one with the NWO singling out K-Dawg for absolutely no reason at all, and we even
04:25had Kevin Nash coming out to help Conan last week so it's all terribly basic here. Kevin
04:30Nash is still in the red and black wolf pack as is Scotty Steiner and Hulk Hogan, but even
04:35Steiner and Nash have shared some words recently and no one really knows what's going on,
04:39it's an absolute mess. This match wasn't very good either and that's because it was
04:42a typical NWO B team affair with Horace and Vincent helping Stevie out from bell to bell,
04:47when Conan got the upper hand the NWO guys were right there to put K-Dawg in his place, so
04:52Conan's friend Rey Mysterio ended up coming out to help even the odds. After taking care
04:56of Horace and Vincent, Rey performed a seated senton on Stevie Ray, Conan then rolled Stevie
05:01up and K-Dawg picks up a win. The match was incredibly short, there was practically no
05:06build up, the payoff wasn't good and it felt more like a waste of time. Conan and Stevie
05:10Ray are great wrestlers, it's a shame the WCW writing team couldn't come up with something
05:14a bit better. Backstage, DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow have a little meeting that was instigated
05:19by the world champion, we don't know what's being said here but Mike tonight reminds everyone
05:23that these two have something in common, they're both from the Jersey Shore area.
05:27Bigelow then comes out for his hardcore match against Brian Nobbs and again, there's no
05:32real reason for these guys to fight each other, basically a few guys have been arguing about
05:36who the king of hardcore really is, with Hack, Raven and Bam Bam Bigelow all making claims
05:42that they're the best when it comes to extreme wrestling. Brian Nobbs just decided to show up
05:46again on Nitro and he won the right to face Bigelow the night at Slamboree, so whoever
05:51wins this match will be the undisputed king of hardcore, or something. It's all trash can
05:56and tray shots at the beginning of the match, nothing groundbreaking at all. Bigelow performs
06:00his diving headbutt and Brian replies with a chair shot to the back, the two head to the
06:04outside where they fight at the ring steps and they use trash can lids and bacon trays to
06:09do more damage. It is fun watching these guys throw weapons at each other, not gonna lie, but
06:14you can tell there's no direction here, I think they both know how the match is gonna
06:18end and that's about it. Nobbs jumps into the bounciest piece of wood I've ever seen
06:22in my life before going back to trash can shots, Bam Bam seemingly had enough and he cracks
06:27the nasty boy's skull in half with a steel chair, the two head up the ramp and straight
06:30to the WCW.com area where a monitor falls on Brian's head, they then begin fighting
06:36in the curtained off part of the arena and I never thought showing this side of the curtain
06:40was a good idea. The arena looked great up until this point but now we can see that half
06:44the venue was actually tapered off and it kinda kills the illusion a bit. Brian Nobbs uses
06:49a ladder to great effect before setting Bam Bam up on a merch table, the payoff looks pretty
06:53terrible when Brian Nobbs jumps and even the commentators say it looked like crap, so
06:57Bam Bam gets up, he suplexes Nobbs through the table and Bam Bam wins this hardcore match.
07:02Bigelow's the king of hardcore, Tony Schiavone says this was a really remarkable match and
07:08I disagree, I disagree wholeheartedly.
07:14Rick Steiner isn't happy with Booker T getting help from Stevie Ray even though Booker hasn't
07:19been asking for any kind of help and this is our story behind Booker T vs Rick Steiner
07:23it's slamboree, don't worry, it will make sense later on. Booker's putting his TV title
07:28up for grabs in this one on one match and, you know, a Booker vs Stevie Ray match would
07:33have made way more sense and it would have been way more interesting. The Conan match
07:37should have been scrapped in favour of giving us a long battle between the brothers of
07:41Hardham Heat, but no, that's asking too much at this point. The two shove each other
07:45around at the opening bell and Steiner strikes first with an overhead belly to belly followed
07:49by two Steiner lines. Booker's forced to take a timeout and when the match resumes,
07:53Booker is finally able to go on offence with a hook kick right to Rick Steiner's neck.
07:57The challenger then has a rough fall when Booker lands a spinning back kick, Rick's now forced
08:01to take a short timeout before the two go at it again, Booker performs a body slam followed
08:06by a back elbow and there we go, a chinlock at slamboree 99. Rick decides to do a little
08:11damage on the outside before applying a chinlock of his own, Steiner shows he's a chinlock
08:15pro when he also incorporates the bottom rope into the move, making it one of the most deadliest
08:20of deadly chinlocks known to man. Booker's been stunned pretty badly here and Rick gets
08:24vicious in the corner, though the TV champ is able to get an opening and he delivers
08:28a suplex to the challenger. It must be said, the crowd is absolutely dead for this match
08:33and I too kinda want the show to move on to its next bout, this has been quite slow and
08:37Booker in particular is much better when working a faster paced match. Case in point, there's
08:42chinlock number two from Rick, the crowd aren't even paying attention anymore and when Booker
08:46clocks Rick with a forearm, there's still no reaction. Finally, an axe kick followed by
08:51a spinaroonie, bringing the crowd back into it. Booker performs his spinebuster followed
08:55by the heat seeker, but then, big papa pump shows up and Scotty Steiner helps his brother.
09:00Booker gets distracted but he does not lose the match, instead he's able to throw Rick
09:04into Scott and Rick then takes a hardham sidekick. Surprisingly though, Rick kicks out of the followup
09:09cover. Again, Scott gets involved by tripping Booker T up, this leads to Rick performing a Steiner
09:14bulldog, and just like that, we have a new TV champion.
09:18Are the Steiner brothers back together? Well, we don't know. Rick goes backstage looking
09:22for his brother afterwards and he tells Buff Bagwell that Scott just screwed around during
09:26his match. Buff says he hasn't seen Scott around, and Rick wishes Buff good luck for
09:31his match against Scott later on. You can see this coming a mile off, can't ya? Watch your
09:36back, Buff Daddy.
09:42Referee Charles Robinson, lil' nature himself, is gonna face the macho man Randy Savage's
09:47new valet gorgeous George next at Slamboree. If George wins then Randy Savage gets reinstated
09:52and he's allowed to compete in WCW on a full time basis. Look at Charles Robinson, styling
09:58and profiling like his hero Ric Flair. I think everyone knows this, but Ric Flair really was
10:03as Robinson's hero. Charles is a die hard Ric Flair fan and I'm sure he was having the
10:08time of his life right here. Ric Flair grabs a microphone and amongst a sea of booze, he
10:13tells Medusa he's always wanted her to ride Space Mountain. Miss Madness can come along
10:17too if she likes, but lil' nature is gonna take care of gorgeous George. Charles says
10:22he's gonna put George in the figure 4 and afterwards George is gonna ride the little
10:26space mountain, but Savage says that's not gonna happen. Macho thinks his valet is gonna kick
10:31lil' nature's ass tonight at Slamboree. The bell rings, the two circle the ring, and
10:36what follows is a ton of time wasting though it's some of the most entertaining time wasting
10:41you'll ever see in your life. Charles Robinson's in full Flair mode and even Ric himself gets
10:46a kick out of Robinson's mannerisms. He's trying his best, god love him. George avoids a lockup
10:51and Robinson gets frustrated, George then applies a wrist lock while Charles was busy with Randy
10:56Savage, and the two competitors then trade multiple wrist locks and hammer locks. I'm
11:00seeing more actual wrestling here than what I would in a David Flair match and that's
11:05no exaggeration. Look, we even get a full Nelson from George followed by a snapmare, the fans
11:10go crazy as does lil' nature, so George pushes Charles into Ric and again the crowd pops, it's
11:16a complete opposite reaction when compared to Booker T vs Rick Steiner.
11:20Ric Flair and Macho then get in the ring for a stare down, Ric gets out and he hands Robinson
11:25in a steel chair, Miss Madness tries to take the chair away but she ends up taking a cheap
11:29shot followed by a body slam from lil' nature. Charles then argues with Johnny Boone in the
11:34ring and the referee shoves Robinson down to the mat, all the while gorgeous George tends
11:38to miss madness on the outside. The match proceeds with Robinson choking George on the ring ropes
11:43and on the mat, George fires back with a few knife edge chops in the corner and my god, Robinson
11:48goes up and over the top turnbuckle just like Ric Flair and he also gets launched off the
11:53top rope in typical Flair fashion. I was just wondering if Charles was going to do the Flair
11:58flop and yeah there it is after a clothesline, gotta give it to both of these guys right
12:02here, it's fantastic stuff. Asia tries to get involved but Medusa stops her from doing
12:07any damage and as Flair and Medusa argue on the outside, charge tries to apply a knee bar
12:11submission but George keeps pushing him away. George then takes a knee breaker that did look
12:16quite painful and now it's time to end it once and for all. Charge locks in the figure
12:21four and I am so impressed with how good charge has been tonight. Unfortunately though the move
12:26gets reversed and Ric Flair has to intervene, so here comes the macho man to get Ric out of
12:30the ring and to also give Lil' Nate a low blow. Savage puts Charles in position for the elbow
12:35drop and George leaps off the second rope with the move that's going to score a pinfall victory
12:39tonight at Slamboree. George defeats Robinson in a match that surely surpassed everyone's
12:45expectations and yeah, I had fun with this one. It was a comedy match, the bar was very
12:50low but fair dues to both Charles and gorgeous George, I'm sure they were both very happy
12:55with how this turned out. Randy Savage has been reinstated and it's only a matter of time
12:59before macho goals for the World Heavyweight Championship.
13:05Next up, Scotty Steiner defends his US title against Buff Bagwell. Bagwell turned babyface
13:09about a month ago and he's been getting some good crowd support. Steiner meanwhile has
13:13been splitting his focus a little between both Buff Daddy and Diamond Dallas Page. Bagwell
13:18called Buff nothing more than a male stripper, a guy no one wanted in the original NWO, but
13:23Buff has a chance to shut Scotty up while also winning his first singles championship.
13:27Bagwell doesn't even give Scott a chance to remove his US title as he goes in for the
13:31kill, a swinging neckbreaker puts the champ down and Scott replies with not one but two
13:35low blows, that'll teach you for trying to pull a fast one on Big Papa Pump. In the crowd
13:39boo's Steiner as he slams Bagwell into the corner. We go to the outside where Steiner calls
13:44a fan a piece of shit and all the fan can do is smile at Big Papa Pump, yeah you
13:48better smile.
13:49Scott continues to talk trash to fans while taking a break every now and then to do some damage
13:53to his opponent. Back in the ring, Bagwell gets hung up in a tree of woe and Scott chokes
13:58his opponent out as Buff's chances of winning this thing get less and less likely. Scott
14:02puts a target on Bagwell's neck, remembering that his old friend had some pretty serious
14:07neck issues not too long ago and we also see some power moves from Scott including a double
14:11underhook powerbomb and a belly to belly suplex. Big Papa Pump decides he's had enough, he
14:16grabs a steel chair for the kill shot but Buff whacks the chair into Scotty's face and Bagwell's
14:21in with a chance. A Buff champ breaks out as Bagwell fires up on the US champ and the crowd
14:25pops for a few dropkicks from Buff daddy but the referee gets taken out when Scott pulls
14:30him in for a clothesline. Rick Steiner then gets in the ring and he tells Buff to go up
14:34for the blockbuster and when Bagwell turns his back on the dogface gremlin he ends up taking
14:39a chair shot. The Steiner brothers are back on good terms it seems and we've now got a
14:43heel Rick Steiner in WCW. Rick wakes the referee up as Scott applies a Steiner recliner and Scott
14:50successfully retains his US championship, the crowd don't like it, the commentators don't
14:54like it but it's going to be interesting seeing the Steiner brothers together again
14:58if WCW don't shitcan the reunion after just a few weeks. Bagwell gets beaten up after the
15:04bell, the Steiners celebrate while Buffs let out in the middle of the ring and while the
15:07match itself was nothing special, the ending does make me interested in seeing where this
15:12goes tomorrow night on Nitro. Roddy Piper takes on President Ric Flair next, the winner of this
15:21one will take control of WCW on a full time basis. Piper recently had Ric Flair committed to a mental
15:26institution saying the nature boy was a danger to himself, the folks he works with and WCW as a whole
15:32and Piper was also able to goad Rick into having this match where Flair could easily lose his position
15:37as WCW president. Throughout this presidency, Ric Flair has turned heel, I know, it's a common
15:43reoccurrence in WCW nowadays, and seeing as Piper likes to show up and disappear again quite a lot
15:48in WCW, it's really hard for fans to truly get behind one competitor over the other. It's this
15:54lack of forward thinking and lack of foresight that's been hurting WCW in the Monday Night War recently.
15:59Nonetheless, we've got two bona fide legends competing in the ring tonight and fans in St.
16:03Louis aren't going to care much about tomorrow or the week after. Ric calls Lil Nature out to referee
16:08the match, Flair fires Johnny Boone on the spot and Johnny looks to Piper for answers. Boone has no
16:13choice though, he must leave the ring. Ric trash talks Piper and this leads to Piper smacking Ric in
16:18the face and after taking a few chops in the corner and a back body drop, the nature boy decides
16:23it's
16:23time to go. Ric wants no part of Roddy Piper. Double A reminds Flair that this match is for control
16:29of
16:29WCW so Ric slowly makes his way back to the ring and the match resumes with Piper spitting at Ric
16:34and totally missing his target. Good shot Roddy. The two lock up, Flair takes more chops and Roddy
16:40throws a ton of punches that would make Muhammad Ali blush. One Flair flop later and we're now on
16:44the outside where, you guessed it, more chops ensue. Dirty tactics are on top as Piper pokes Flair in the
16:50eyes and the nature boy replies with a low blow. Charles Robertson then tells Piper off for being a bad
16:55boy and
16:56Rick then decides to throw Piper out of the ring where Arn Anderson gets in a few cheap shots.
17:00We get more chops, more punches, more chops. Oh, here comes Asia and Roddy takes another low blow
17:07but the hot rod kicks out of the follow up cover and we're right back to punches from Flair,
17:12chops from Piper, there's another backdrop from Roddy right there and like what the fuck is this?
17:18We're well over halfway through the match and we've had two backdrops, punches, chops, low blows and
17:22eye pokes. You can certainly respect these guys for their pro wrestling pedigree and how they helped
17:27shape the wrestling industry but this is terrible, absolutely terrible and what's worse, this is the
17:33main story heading into Slamboree. This was built up even more than the word title match. We go to
17:39the outside briefly where the ring post and guardrail gets utilized, at least it's something different.
17:44Back inside the ring, the two competitors bump into each other and Rick's first to get up,
17:48the nature boy then starts working over the leg while getting some assistance from Arn Anderson
17:52and thank god, Flair applies the figure 4. Piper doesn't give up, instead he reverses Flair's
17:57finisher and so Rick sends Piper back to the outside. This time Roddy's able to take care of Arn Anderson
18:02and I'm genuinely surprised at this sunset flip right here, well done Piper. I'm not surprised that
18:07Flair's pasty ass getting exposed immediately afterwards though. Piper covers Flair multiple times
18:13but Charles gets conveniently distracted by the enforcer, so Piper throws Rick off the top rope
18:18and it's now Flair getting locked in the figure 4. Our match ends when Arn Anderson interferes to
18:23break up the hold. Roddy puts Double A in a sleeper hold and when Flair tries to intervene, he too
18:28gets
18:28put in a sleeper. Asia breaks up the sleeper on Flair and for her trouble, she gets a kiss and
18:33she too
18:33gets put to sleep and when Charles Robinson puts his hand on Piper, Lil Niche ends up getting punched in
18:39the
18:39face. Flair hits Piper with a foreign object that we don't actually see, but whatever it was, it was
18:44enough to knock Piper out and Flair wins via pinfall. Eric Bischoff then walks down to the ring, we
18:49haven't seen Eric inside a wrestling arena since he helped Hogan back to the locker room at Spring
18:53Stampede, and Bischoff says Piper's actually the winner of this match, everyone saw Flair cheat and so
18:59Roddy gets awarded the victory tonight. Thing is, Bischoff has no power, remember, he lost to Ric Flair and
19:06he gave up any authority he has in the company, so this right here makes absolutely no sense at all.
19:11Piper fires Ric Flair while the nature boy screams at a few kids sitting at the front row, and Piper
19:16then thanks Eric Bischoff for doing the right thing, who woulda thought it. A bad match here at
19:21Slamboree though, you see Flair and Piper on the card and you get these ideas in your head of how
19:27the
19:27match is gonna be, but this wasn't a good performance from either man, and what's even more shocking,
19:32these two are gonna have another P-Per-View match in WCW very very soon.
19:41Like other matches on this card, Sting vs Goldberg has absolutely no build up. The very small amount
19:46of heat we've got here was a quick scuffle on Nitro this past week, but the commentators are
19:51building this up as the best vs the best, the ultimate babyface clash in world championship wrestling.
19:56Just two dudes who want to win a wrestling match, that's what we've got here and things don't start
20:01too well when this happens. The two go at it again and Goldberg performs his signature power slam
20:06before dumping the stinger out of the ring. The icon takes his sweet time before getting back
20:10inside the ropes but this time Sting takes control with a dropkick and it's Goldberg now getting
20:15dumped out of the ring. The crowd's kinda 50-50 here as Goldberg slowly makes his way back inside,
20:20he doesn't give a clean break at the ropes and Sting falls victim to a fireman's carry followed by an
20:25arm bar submission. The stinger makes it to the ropes and Goldberg releases the hold,
20:28and this back and forth match continues with Sting performing a facebuster followed by a dropkick to
20:33the knee. Goldberg's wearing a knee brace tonight and Sting's gonna try and zone in a little on the
20:38body part, but his attempt at a boston crab fails and he decides to get a little more vicious with
20:42a
20:42few kicks. Sting changes game plan, he suplexes Goldberg and Billy Boy nose-sails it, Goldberg fires
20:48back with his single arm suplex and we also see a swinging neck breaker, although I'm not sure Sting knew
20:53which way to fall here. But Sting does know when to move when Goldberg tries to spear him and we
20:57see a
20:58diving clothesline from the icon. Sting's feeling it, he lines up a stinger splash and… oh,
21:03oh, that was good, that was good. This is the end of our match ladies and gents because look who's
21:08back,
21:09his excellency Bret Hart has returned to WCW and he's here to beat the crap out of Goldberg with a
21:14steel
21:14chair. Bret hits Goldberg on the head and he goes after Goldberg's knee too before leaving the ring,
21:19and here comes Rick and Scott Steiner to feast on the carcasses of these two fallen WCW babyfaces.
21:25Rick and Scott beat Sting and Goldberg up pretty badly, it's clear they want to make a statement
21:29tonight and going after these two is a great way to re-establish themselves, but the crowd aren't
21:34happy with how all this turned out. Good to see Bret back, good to see the Steiners being so dominant,
21:39fans were robbed of a clean finish though and while this is standard fare on Nitro, you expect more on
21:44a pay per view show. Our main event features Kevin Nash getting a world title shot against Diamond
21:53Dallas Page. Nash got this opportunity through some wheeling and dealing with Ric Flair but at
21:58that point in time Nash was a heel or a tweener at least, and since then it appears that Nash
22:03has
22:03gone completely babyface but honestly, who knows at this point, it can all change again next week. DDP
22:09lost the belt on an episode of Nitro and won it back again the same night, he's been a two
22:13-time WCW
22:14champion within the space of one month, so it's been quite an interesting couple of weeks for Dallas
22:19Page. Nash said he wants to win this for Hogan, he wants to get revenge for Page injuring Hollywood
22:24at Spring Stampede, so let's see if he can get the job done. Slamboree 99 World Heavyweight Championship,
22:30Diamond Dallas Page vs Kevin Nash. It's time for the main event.
22:38DDP tells Nash he's going to feed the bang while Big Sexy tells his opponent to suck it, great start.
22:43Page tries
22:44to end it immediately with a diamond cutter but Nash avoids it and Dallas gets sent to the outside.
22:48Page then ducks a few haymakers from Big Kev but he doesn't avoid a knee strike and when Dallas starts
22:53acting
22:54up on the apron, Nash runs into him with another knee strike. DDP really needs to get his act together.
22:59Page gets dropped on the guard rail before Nash brings it back in the ring for even more knee
23:04strikes, careful there big man, and Nash feels it's necessary to tidy up his eyebrows a little
23:08before lining up DDP for a back elbow. Big Kev's super confident tonight, no doubt about it.
23:14DDP avoids snake eyes and Nash takes a few punches to the face, Kev has to shove Dallas away when
23:18the
23:19champ goes up for some mounted punches but Page gets in a low blow and the referee doesn't say a
23:23thing,
23:24I think. Page beats his opponent to the mat before cutting off a turnbuckle pad,
23:28while Nick Patrick investigates, Page hits Nash with a microphone but this isn't enough to end the
23:32match. Dallas argues with the referee and he took his eye off Nash for just a moment and this turns
23:38out to be a costly mistake. Dallas gets his head rocked off that exposed turnbuckle, both men struggle
23:46to get to their feet afterwards, we get a fistfight between champion and challenger and Dallas gets the
23:53outside and makes fun of Big Sexy before lining up a baseball slide, Page manages to knock Nash down
23:59and on the outside Dallas takes Kev out with a diamond cutter. Page then covers Kev on the outside
24:04and Patrick reminds the champ that this isn't a false count anywhere match, of course Page really
24:09knew this wasn't a false count anywhere match but it's still a spot that makes the champ look a bit
24:13dumb. Nash gets tossed into the ring, Page makes the cover while using the ropes and Kev kicks out,
24:19this isn't going well for Dallas at all. DDP hits a few low elbow drops and Page is way too
24:26busy playing
24:26up to the audience, he's getting more and more arrogant as the match goes on, he starts working
24:31over the leg and he begins utilizing the ring post to his advantage and Dallas wants to injure Nash
24:36right here just like he did to Hogan at Spring Stampede but Kev pushes Dallas away. Back in the ring,
24:41DDP gets more arrogant as he punches and kicks his opponent, Dallas wants Nash to stand up to take more
24:47punishment so Big Sexy obliges and Kev starts fighting back. DDP takes a running knee followed
24:52by a corner clothesline, Nash then hits Snake Eyes on the exposed turnbuckle and after hitting the
24:57Big Boot, Big Sexy signals for the jackknife, we could be seeing a new world champion here. DDP takes
25:03Nash's finisher but here comes Randy Savage to once again give DDP the assist. This has been happening
25:08frequently on Nitro and it makes no sense seeing his macho man's a babyface in the gorgeous George
25:13storyline yet he's acting like a heel by helping DDP. The ref calls for a DQ as macho hits Nash
25:19with
25:19the word championship belt and then Eric Bischoff walks back down along with Double D Doug Dillinger.
25:25Bischoff tells Randy to get away from the ring before instructing Nick Patrick to restart the match,
25:29Eric says he doesn't care what Ted Turner or Harvey Schiller says, this match must continue.
25:34So we go back to the ring where DDP takes advantage once again and instead of firing on all cylinders,
25:40things get slowed way down with both men trading sleeper holds. Page gets out with a jawbreaker
25:45before going out to grab a chair, but Dallas ends up hitting himself when the chair bounces off the
25:49top rope. Page makes up for his mistake by hitting a low blow, but Nash kicks out at two and
25:55our match
25:55ends with Nash performing a Big Boot and Dallas takes another shot with that chair. The big man delivers
26:01his jackknife powerbomb and Kevin Nash becomes a two time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
26:06As far as Kevin Nash matches go, this wasn't bad but generally speaking it wasn't a great nor memorable
26:12main event. I kinda feel bad for DDP too because he didn't get a great run with that World Heavyweight
26:17Championship, but there you have it, DDP does the J-O-B at the PPV named Slamboree.
26:26Not a good show here from WCW at all and I had real high hopes when looking at the card
26:31on paper.
26:31The tag team opener had no control, Rick Steiner vs Booker T almost sent the crowd to sleep,
26:36Piper vs Flair barely passed as a wrestling match, and the world title match really isn't worth
26:41revisiting. I'm going into these post spring stampede WCW shows with a lot of hope, everyone
26:46says there's no good WCW PPVs left and I really want to prove that statement wrong as we move forward,
26:53but I can't say Slamboree 99's a good event and so this one unfortunately does not come recommended.
26:59Honestly, Charles Robinson was probably the most entertaining thing about this event.
27:03Still, thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed another WCW PPV review in the Reliving
27:08the War series. There's no Nitro next week due to the NBA playoffs, so the next episode of Reliving
27:13the War will feature an unopposed episode of Raw. Thank you so so much for watching guys and please, take
27:18care.
27:54See you next time.
