These slow cooker meatballs in tomato sauce are all about rich flavour, tender meatballs, and an easy tea that goes brilliantly with spaghetti or mashed potato. Cheryl makes a simple tomato sauce with finely chopped tomatoes, tomato purée, onion, butter, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and Parmesan, then lets it cook low and slow until glossy and full of depth.

The meatballs are mixed with minced beef, grated onion, breadcrumbs, egg, seasoning, and garlic, then chilled, shaped into large portions, and briefly roasted so they hold together in the Crockpot. After a few hours in the slow cooker, the sauce turns beautifully rich and clings to every meatball, making this a comforting homemade dinner recipe that is easy to follow and ideal for family meals.

Perfect for anyone searching for slow cooker meatballs, meatballs in tomato sauce, Crockpot dinner ideas, easy pasta sauce, or comforting family recipes. It also works well as a practical meal idea for spaghetti night, mashed potato dinners, or anyone wanting a simple homemade comfort food recipe with rich tomato, garlic, and Parmesan flavour.

00:05well hello there folks and a very warm welcome as usual back to what's for tea and it's lovely
00:11to see you all again and i hope that i find you very well indeed and thanks for coming over
00:16for
00:16this week's recipe and it's these delicious meatballs and tomato sauce you know the sauce
00:23is so incredibly rich and it just clings to those delicious meatballs highly recommend you give this
00:29one a go and it's really easy because i'm doing this one in the crock pot or the slow cooker
00:35the
00:35sauce in this recipe let me tell you is incredible so please do give this a go now you can
00:43make this
00:43on the stovetop if you prefer but i think making this in the slow cooker you know allowing the
00:49meatballs to cook in the sauce is what makes this so delicious so i'm using my slow cooker and to
00:54this
00:55i'm going to add some very finely chopped tomatoes you can even use passata for this if you prefer
01:01i like the texture of these very finely chopped tomatoes in this recipe to this i'm going to
01:07add some tomato puree just for extra depth flavor and richness and i used one large onion half for
01:14the sauce and half for the meatballs the half for the sauce i've just finely chopped i'm also adding
01:20a tablespoon of butter as well this is salted butter just for some extra richness and moisture
01:25and i'm also going to add some garlic powder you could use fresh garlic if you prefer i prefer the
01:31powder in this just because it makes the sauce less chunky and then some italian seasoning or italian
01:37herbs or even oregano you know anything like that will do just to give you that kind of flavor
01:43then i'm also going to add some sea salt any old salt will do it's just i've got some sea
01:48salt so i'm going
01:49to use that and then some cracked black pepper as well i'm adding about a teaspoon and a half of
01:54salt
01:55because it really does help to bring out the flavors and everything else so in with your salt and then
02:00in with your pepper and i'm also going to add some grated parmesan cheese and this is going to go
02:05beautifully in the sauce this is the one that i used here so in with your grated parmesan cheese
02:11and just stir everything together so just make sure everything is well mixed together and then
02:17once you've done this you just want to pop your lid on leave that cooking away on low until you've
02:22made your meatballs and your sauce will be ready for the meatballs so to make the meatballs i am using
02:2712 fat mince i prefer this over overly low fat mince or over you know overly high fat mince i
02:35think it
02:35just works best in this recipe and i'm going to add some salt and pepper again just to give this
02:41extra
02:42flavor so in with a wee bit of salt and then your pepper again straight into your bowl and then
02:47to
02:48this we're going to add the other half of the onion i've grated this onion just so that it basically
02:53disappears into the meat when you mix it through the meat and then again with the italian seasoning
02:59just to tie in with the flavors of the sauce so a wee dash of the italian seasoning or oregano
03:06whatever
03:06you're using and then again with the garlic powder quite a bit and with the meatballs this is going
03:11to give them a lovely garlicky flavor i'm going to add some dried breadcrumbs into this just to bring
03:17everything together so in with the dry breadcrumbs and this is the one that i use here i use this
03:23for
03:23everything highly recommend ruscaline you just can't go wrong and then to this we're going to add a
03:29medium egg again it's just going to help bind everything together so i'm going to go in with
03:34a wooden spoon to begin with just to make sure that egg is worked into the mixture before i go
03:39in with
03:40my hand because i don't want to squish into an egg with my hand so once i've mixed the egg
03:45in well
03:45i'm just going to go in with my hand just to bring everything together into a smooth ball just kind
03:52of
03:52squish everything with your fingers and eventually you'll have a nice smooth ball and everything will be
03:59well mixed together and should look something like this you want to refrigerate this for about 15
04:05minutes before you make your actual meatballs for a scoop i'm just going to use this one tablespoon
04:11measuring spoon or you could use a meatball scissor if you have one i'm just going to use this wee
04:17spoon because mostly everyone is going to have a wee spoon that they can use so i'm going to make
04:2212
04:23meatballs quite large meatballs you can do these any size you like so you want to get your meatballs
04:29onto an oven tray because we are going to roast these just to give them a bit of a color
04:34you know
04:34and hold them together so you just want to roll these so they're nice and smooth you know this will
04:40be really easy to do so once they're looking like this i just like to oil my hands with some
04:45olive oil or
04:46vegetable oil whatever oil you have and just go around your balls again just to make sure they are
04:53coated lightly in that oil it's going to help them you know stay together you're not looking to cook
04:58these through because they're only going to have about 15 minutes in the oven but it's just to help
05:03them keep their shape as they cook in the sauce in the slow cooker and they don't all fall apart
05:08so this will make sure that they stay in that nice shape as they are cooking for a few hours
05:15so into
05:15the middle of your oven like i said for about 15 minutes and when they come out they'll be looking
05:21something like this and you can go back to your sauce and by now it'll be nice and warm and
05:26bubbly
05:27and just pop your meatballs straight into the sauce just make sure they've got plenty of room to move
05:33around in there you don't want them all sticking together or sticking to the bottom and then pop your
05:38lid on you want to cook these on low for about three and a half or four hours depending on
05:44the size
05:44of your meatballs so this was me four hours later and that sauce is going beautiful and rich and you
05:52can just see that from the shine on the top there so you just want to give them a good
05:56stir around
05:57like i said just to make sure they're not sticking together or sticking to the bottom but they shouldn't
06:02be they should be lovely and loose and bouncy and should have held their shape wonderfully and let me tell
06:08you the flavour of this sauce was absolutely insane and i'm going to serve this with just plain
06:16spaghetti but it's lovely with mashed potato as well or even you know on its own with a big chunk
06:23of crusty bread is just as nice so i'll just give you a wee look at you know how they
06:28look as they are
06:30at the moment but yeah highly recommend you give this one a go if you do like this kind of
06:35thing
06:35like i said the flavour of this sauce was just beautiful it's so rich and garlicky and oniony
06:42and cheesy yeah it's just wonderful like i said i think this goes perfect with pasta
06:47and in particular spaghetti so that's what we are going to have so that's just plain spaghetti
06:53some of that beautiful rich sauce from the slow cooker and just three of those meatballs because they
06:59are quite large and this recipe will serve four people quite easily just some cracked black pepper
07:06some more parmesan and then just a wee bit of basil on the top is all you need so do
07:13let me know if you
07:14end up giving this a go and let me know if you love it just as much as i do
07:19if you like a wee spicy
07:20kick you could add chili you know or cayenne pepper or even chili flakes to the sauce if you want
07:27a wee
07:27bit of spice in there but honestly it's lovely just as it is so thank you all for watching and
07:33a huge
