00:00Her name is Gracie, and she is one very lucky chicken.
00:04Gracie was part of a religious ritual.
00:06And somehow this chicken went from barely surviving to becoming this total love bug.
00:14And when she's really, really happy, she'll make this little purring sound.
00:22This is a rescue where hundreds of thousands of chickens are slaughtered for a religious ritual.
00:30Gracie had already been through the ritual.
00:33Somebody had swung her around their head, her throat was slit, and she was still alive.
00:38An animal activist spotted her and immediately recognized that she was in need of help.
00:45Tamerlane has been helping these rescued chickens from Kaporos since 2014.
00:51Our main objective is to focus on the animals, not the religion.
00:55We are a sanctuary for abused, abandoned, neglected, farmed animals.
01:01While we're at the actions, we are able to look and see if there are injured animals.
01:06Legally, they have a right to veterinary care if they're injured.
01:10The universe has other plans for you.
01:13And Gracie was a pretty incredible case.
01:16Now she had a chance at this completely new life.
01:22And then there was another challenge.
01:25So Gracie had been bred to specifically grow really quickly.
01:29And that can be really hard on her body.
01:33They're crammed together in these factory farms and then crammed together in these crates.
01:41So even as her injury healed, her caregivers had to keep a really close eye on her.
01:48Gracie loves waddling around in the grass and looking for bugs and hanging out with her other chicken friends.
01:55But if someone sits down, you best believe that Gracie is heading over.
02:03She was literally tossed away, thought to be dead, and she survived that.
02:11She's a cuddly girl, she's a survivor, and she's just a wonderful, wonderful ambassador for all of her species.
02:20You're such a good color.
02:30You're such a good color.
