Little Hope had no idea someone was about to completely change her life! When Vicky from Vets For Compassion stopped for a kangaroo who had been hit by a car, she discovered baby Hope still beside her mom. Through Hope’s journey back to the wild, Dodo editor Tarang and Nicole from Vets for Compassion show us the larger work the rescue does every day to give injured and vulnerable wildlife a second chance.

00:00Her little calls to her mom, the amount of cars that drove past, it was just devastating.
00:06Luckily, an experienced rescuer named Vicky spotted them and immediately stopped to help.
00:10When Vicky found her, she was already outside the pouch, huddled beside her mom and desperately trying to wake her
00:15up.
00:18Vicky sat quietly nearby and gently called out to Hope so that she could slowly earn her trust.
00:45Hope received a full veterinarian examination before going into care with the very person who rescued her.
00:51And this is exactly the kind of emergency Vets for Compassion responds to every single day.
00:56The veterinarian-led non-profit rescues all kinds of animals, from pets to wildlife to even farm animals.
01:04But in Melbourne, Australia, much of their work focuses on macropods, such as kangaroos and wallabies.
01:09There's an animal in need and no one else is able to help and then we fill that gap.
01:18Once an animal is safe, the team ensures that each animal receives veterinarian care.
01:23Those animals that are needing more time to recover are placed with experienced carers until they're ready to return to
01:28the wild.
01:29It's so important that they check wildlife that has been hit by a car.
01:33Check if it's a female and check if it has a joey in its pouch because those little joeys and
01:37those little babies can be saved and they have a second chance at life.
01:42And Hope is the perfect example for that.
01:44Her story is an important reminder.
01:46If you see an animal who has been hit by a car, please safely contact Wildlife Rescue Services, even if
01:52the animal has appeared to pass away.
01:53There could still be a baby nearby or inside her pouch who has a chance to survive.
01:58Because for Hope, one person stopping was all it took to give her a second chance.
02:02Not an animal who canuyu minority the world so sadly doesn'tjan go.
02:05Perhaps she can be a horse or sinner who can sell it anywhere.
02:06Pray if she can.
02:06Pray if she can.
02:06Wait if she can.
02:09Because hope is a good place.
