00:00Vibrant colors and recycled materials only.
00:04This is the Kamengi Drop, a fashion show held as part of Green Diplomacy Week at the Kamengi
00:09Youth Center in northern Budjambura.
00:12Following a 10-day training program focused on the creative transformation of waste, 12
00:18young designers presented their creations on the runway.
00:21The outfits and accessories were made from discarded mosquito nets, bags, plastic waste
00:27or mobile phone accessories.
00:29Manuela Minka, one of the founders of the organization Sciences, is calling on people to see waste
00:35differently.
00:37We used waste to create a clothing collection, recycling these materials.
00:43Recycling allows us to see that if we look at a bottle or waste differently, we can transform
00:47it.
00:49Above all, we must take care of our mother, the earth.
00:55She also took the opportunity to address the families of the young participants and encourage
01:01them to draw inspiration from their ancestors' practices to protect the environment and all
01:06living beings.
01:08I invite you to think differently, to protect your mother, the earth, and above all, to
01:15encourage your children to explore artistic activities.
01:20Art can help convey an environmental message or another important message to the world.
01:27For the young participants, the experience was an eye-opener.
01:32What I learned from this training is that we can generate income from objects that we usually
01:37consider rubbish or waste.
01:40If you make something out of these materials, or turn them into different objects, you can earn
01:45money from them.
01:48The event was warmly received by the public, particularly young audience members.
01:58It's amazing.
01:59The clothes and shoes they made are really good.
02:02Burundi certainly has talent.
02:04If possible, I would also like to learn this art.
02:06I think it's amazing.
02:10It's a vibrant initiative to combat Burundi's ongoing waste recycling problem.
02:15It's a poem to my book.
02:16It's already perhaps with the Amendments therapist to build a community for your community.
