00:01The countdown is on in Dakar. With just days to go, construction crews are racing against the clock to prepare
00:08Senegal's capital for a historic global sporting event.
00:11On October 31st, Dakar will make history as the host of Africa's first ever Olympic event, the Youth Olympic Games.
00:19Excitement is building as the city gets ready to welcome the world.
00:26This is the first opportunity for Senegal and by extension for Africa to discover new sports.
00:32It is the very first time that a major competition of this scale has come to Africa.
00:36It's only natural that we should all be happy to welcome other people, other cultures.
00:43Around 2,700 young athletes are set to take center stage in Dakar for the Youth Olympic Games.
00:49First held in Singapore in 2010, the competition brings together athletes aged 15 to 18.
00:58This is my first Olympic event. I've attended high-level sporting events before, but for the Olympics, it's really my
01:04first time.
01:05That is why this is such a great opportunity. I was abroad, I was in France, but I never actually
01:09attended the Games while I was there.
01:11I had already left. Now they are taking place in my home country, so I'm very happy.
01:16Running until November 13th, the Games will feature 35 sports across several cities,
01:22with the opening ceremony taking place on Saturday in Dam Liadio, 40 kilometers from Dakar.
01:30Thanks to them for the next October 16th!
01:32Sorry how you got!
