In fifteen eighty seven, one hundred and fifteen English settlers arrived on Roanoke Island off the coast of North Carolina, led by John White. Hopes for a thriving New World settlement quickly faded as supplies dwindled and tensions rose with local Native American tribes.

Governor John White sailed back to England for emergency supplies, but his return was delayed for three long years due to the outbreak of the Anglo Spanish War. When he finally returned to Roanoke in fifteen ninety, the settlement was entirely deserted and abandoned.

There were no signs of a struggle or a violent battle. The only clues left behind were the word Croatoan carved into a wooden post and the letters Cro carved into a nearby tree.

Despite numerous rescue missions and centuries of archaeological research, no definitive evidence has ever been found to explain the true fate of the lost colonists. Theories range from assimilation with local tribes to Spanish attacks or severe starvation, leaving one of history's greatest enduring mysteries unsolved to this very day.
