00:00I know you know her, but I see Julia from a little different perspective.
00:09We both know that she's very smart.
00:14I mean, she's got a Ph.D., for God's sakes.
00:20Julia is an adult.
00:23Not everybody in Washington, D.C., is.
00:31Julia is, she's thoughtful.
00:35She's temperate.
00:37Julia doesn't swing at every pitch.
00:41She doesn't get caught up in the mania of the moment.
00:47She's deeply analytical.
00:50I work with her.
00:52She on the House Appropriations Committee, me on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
00:58And I watch her look at every side of an issue.
01:03She can work with anybody.
01:07I guess you could say she's charming.
01:10And Washington, D.C. needs a little bit more of that.
01:15But I've also seen a side of Julia Letlow that you have.
01:22I have seen her fangs.
01:25Let me tell you what I mean by that.
01:29Yes, Julia's smart.
01:31And yes, she's respectful.
01:34And yes, she's charming.
01:37But if you get between Julia Letlow and what's best for Louisiana and the people of Louisiana,
01:47she will devour you like a light snack.
01:55She will eat you up and spit the bones on the floor.
02:02And that's what you need in the United States Senate.
02:05Now, I endorsed Julia right after she became our nominee.
02:12And that's what I'm here to do today, is endorse her again.
02:18I want to say a word about the election.
02:22Some of you have voted.
02:24Some of you will vote.
02:26But I know there are a lot of people out there that they won't vote.
02:31It happens in every election.
02:33I want to speak to them.
02:35And let me preface what I'm about to say by saying I don't hate anybody.
02:40I don't.
02:42When I say my prayers, one of the things I always ask God is don't let me hate.
02:50It's not worth it.
02:51I look for grace wherever I can find it.
02:55And I'm proud to live in a country where you can say and do what you think and what you
03:02believe.
03:03So I don't hate anybody who disagrees with me.
03:07But at the same time, part of my job and Julia's job is to tell you the truth.
03:12I mean, I'm not speaking for Julia, but God gave me the right to remain silent but not the ability.
03:20So I'm not going to bubble wrap it.
03:24Republicans are not perfect.
03:27But let me tell you something.
03:28The other side's crazy.
03:30And it's not everybody on the other side.
03:34It's not.
03:35I've got many friends.
03:37I know everybody in the United States Senate.
03:40Julia will shortly.
03:42I like my Democratic colleagues.
03:45And I have many friends who are Democrats.
03:48But their party has been taken over by a group of people that I don't recognize.
03:56They're led by Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, Mayor Mamdani in New York, Senator Bernie Sanders.
04:10They hope to add to their number Mr. Abdul El-Sayed from Illinois or Michigan, rather.
04:19You might have read about it.
04:22And these folks are entitled to their opinion.
04:26But I'm entitled to mine.
04:28The American people deserve to be governed by normal people.
04:33They don't deserve to be governed by people who want to open our prisons, open our borders, defund the police,
04:44defund ICE,
04:45and every one of whom think and know the words by heart to the Cuban national anthem.
04:53The Democratic Socialists, the group I just described, every single one of them, they hate free enterprise.
05:04Let me tell you something.
05:06Socialism is for morons.
05:09And if you don't believe me, go ask the former people of the USSR.
05:14India used to be a socialist country.
05:17They're not today.
05:18China used to be a socialist country.
05:20Even Israel used to be a socialist country.
05:25Every one of these countries rejected that economic and sociopolitical theory.
05:30That's why I say socialism is for morons.
05:34Look, you remember when the Berlin Wall fell?
05:36Well, some of you may not.
05:38Read about it.
05:39Who ran when the Berlin Wall fell?
05:41Who ran to which side?
05:44That tells you all you need to know about socialism.
05:47The American people don't deserve to be governed by people who hate Dr. Seuss and Abraham Lincoln and George Washington
05:57and Mr. Potato Head because they think they're all racist.
06:03And these folks do.
06:05It's not everyone in their party, but they're in control.
06:10The American people don't deserve to be governed by people who hyperventilate on their yoga mats, if you use the
06:17wrong pronoun.
06:19Who think our children ought to be able to change genders at recess.
06:24And who think they're smarter and more virtuous than the American people.
06:29Now, they had the right to believe that.
06:32But they are in charge of the Democratic Party.
06:36And that is just a fact.
06:38You can write that down and take it home to Mama.
06:41I see it every single day.
06:44And Julia Lentlow and I and the other members of my party are fighting back.
06:50Now, don't forget that part where I said I don't hate anybody.
06:54I don't.
06:56Okay?
06:57But I've watched Julia's opponent.
07:01And I don't care what he says.
07:03I don't care what he puts on TV.
07:07He will, I know who's running his party.
07:12And if he gets to Washington, D.C., he will move and follow Chuck Schumer into the chute like a
07:21cow.
07:22And you can write that down, too, and take it home to Mama.
07:27Now, I want you to go out and vote for Julia.
07:33Julia and I believe that America's future, that Louisiana's future, that Acadiana's future can be better than our present or
07:42our past.
07:43We do.
07:44Julia and I believe that we're only as good as our dreams.
07:49We shouldn't fear our dreams, fear our future.
07:52We ought to grab for it.
07:54Julia and I believe that we're only as valuable as our children.
07:57She talked eloquently about the children.
07:59And that's important.
08:01But I'm not going to bubble wrap it.
08:04The water in Washington, D.C. is not going to clear up until you get the pigs out of the
08:11creek and keep the pigs out of the creek.
08:15So I want you to, I am here, I'm proud as I can be to endorse Julia Lettlo.
08:21She's going to be you next down at the state summit.
08:23I can tell you that.
08:25But I want you to go vote.
08:27Okay?
08:28And tell folks at your church to go vote.
08:31And tell folks at the grocery store to go vote.
08:34And I know you're going to run into some folks who will say, oh, you know, it doesn't matter.
08:40My vote doesn't matter.
08:41And you'll run into Miss Betty Lou and Miss Betty Lou will say, oh, you know, I'm tired.
08:48I don't feel like going and voting.
08:51Julia's going to win anyway.
08:52Here's what you say to Miss Betty Lou.
08:54You say, Miss Betty Lou, go vote.
08:57I know you might be tired.
08:58Go vote.
08:59Look at it this way.
09:00If dead people can do it, so can you, Miss Betty Lou.
09:06Y'all get out and vote for Julia Lettlo, the next United States senator from Louisiana.
09:11Come on.
09:12Right here.
09:14Julia Lettlo, folks.
09:17She's headed to Washington.
09:19Write it down.
09:21Thank y'all for coming.
09:24And listen, y'all take the rest of the day off, OK?
