Republican Congresswoman Julia Letlow has advanced to a high-stakes runoff in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race after a strong showing in the May 16 primary election. Backed by President Donald Trump, Letlow secured nearly 45 percent of the vote, defeating incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy, who failed to reach the runoff after 12 years in office. Letlow thanked supporters during a victory speech in Baton Rouge, praising Trump and promising to continue fighting for Louisiana voters ahead of the June 27 Republican showdown against State Treasurer John Fleming.

00:04I am so excited and most importantly, I want to say thank you to a very special man who you
00:11all know, the best president this country has ever had, President Donald Trump.
00:20When he endorsed me in January, I knew this was going to be a tough race.
00:25But tonight, Louisiana sent a clear message that they want a candidate to represent them in the Senate who will
00:33always put America first and never turn her back on Louisiana voters.
00:43People ask me all the time, Julia, why would you put your family through this?
00:48Why would you elect to have $26 million spent in negative ads against you?
00:55Again, that's another testament to the president's endorsement and how powerful it is in Louisiana that we were still able
01:02to garner 45% of the vote despite the negativity.
01:10And when I answer them, I quickly go to my why, and my why is an eight-year-old little
01:15boy named Jeremiah John and my six-year-old daughter Jacqueline.
01:19They are my why.
01:21They're why I wake up every day with that fire in my belly to go fight for this country so
01:28that they can enjoy the freedoms that we all enjoyed growing up.
01:32And I have a feeling your why looks a lot like mine.
01:35It's your kids.
01:36It's your grandkids.
01:37They are the reason why we all fight so hard to make sure that we live in the greatest country
01:44in the world.
01:50Now, all work is not done.
01:52We have one more race coming up, and I will promise you this.
01:56I will crisscross all across the state yet again fighting for families.
02:02I want our country to be safe.
02:04I am so grateful to President Trump and all he has done to make our communities safe for our kiddos.
02:09And I will continue fighting for a secure border that he did on day one when President Biden said it
02:15was not possible.
02:16I will continue fighting for a strong economy.
02:19Look at what we have done in this administration to deregulate and make sure that Louisiana is producing energy again
02:27right here in the Gulf of America.
02:29Yes.
02:33And I will always keep fighting for our kiddos.
02:35I know that education is the answer.
02:38If you educate a child, you give them a future.
02:40And I believe that education at every level, and school choice, our charter schools, and parents' rights,
02:46I will continue fighting for those over in the Senate.
02:49So I am going to make sure that our story is heard across the rest of the state.
02:54I would love to continue to earn your support and garner every vote that I possibly can.
03:00And I promise you this.
03:01I will never forget that this is not my seat.
03:05It is yours, the people's seat.
03:07And that will be at the forefront of every decision I ever make and every vote that I ever take.
03:13And I am so indebted to you, Louisiana.
03:15Thank you so much for giving me this honor of a lifetime.
03:18God bless you all.
03:19God bless President Trump.
03:21God bless Louisiana.
03:23God bless the United States of America.
03:25God bless you!
03:27Yay!
03:28Thank you!
03:32Okay, you're done!
03:34You're done!
03:34You're done!
03:46You're done!
