00:00Terry McLaurin goes down on the left sideline,
00:02and you know almost immediately it looks bad.
00:07And it looked pretty significant.
00:09It looked problematic for Terry.
00:12And I think based on Dan Quinn's comments after the game,
00:16based on just what I saw and him getting carted off
00:20and the size of the air cast they put on that thing,
00:24it was not just a brace.
00:25That was an air cast.
00:28I just feel awful for McLaurin.
00:31And I know there's questions about where the contract goes
00:34and could that be his last snap in Washington and all those things.
00:38That to me is for a later date.
00:40Yeah, at the moment now I don't care about none of that.
00:42I care about the fact that let's get him right.
00:45You know, talking with him, talking with his dad,
00:49I always had an affinity for Terry
00:51because I know he was going to give you everything that he had.
00:54When I saw that thing plant, it looked like the kneecap was just floating around to me.
00:59So I'm not a doctor, but, you know, I've been around enough stuff
01:04and it looked like a patellar tendon thing to me.
01:07Yeah, I've heard people say that what is the patellar tendon.
01:10The patellar tendon is the tendon that attaches to your…
01:14The top of the knee?
01:15Yeah, I think it's the one right below the kneecap.
01:19And it kind of holds that in place a little.
01:23But when it goes, the kneecap can start to float around.
01:27You know what I mean?
01:28Yeah.
01:29You've seen people ripping and the kneecap is on the side of their knee.
01:32His looked like it went up the knee a little bit and then came back.
01:36It looked like it was floating to me.
01:37You know, so at that point you knew.
01:39But, like, let's be running around sports enough, Jay.
01:42When it's the non-contact injury, it's normally serious.
01:49Yeah, it was like he tried to cut and just couldn't.
01:52And I think this is a sizable loss on the field, certainly.
02:01I think it's a big loss on the field.
02:03In the only game they've won this year, it also happened to be Terry McLaurin's best game against Seattle.
02:09It's a big loss on the field.
02:10It's a big loss off the field for his veteran leadership and who he is and the stature he carries
02:18himself with
02:18and the way he works.
02:22I mean, maybe the reality of pro sports, maybe it's an opportunity for Antonio Williams to grow.
02:28But, like, I just truly hate it for Terry.
02:33I really hate it for Terry.
02:35And you think about everything that's happened for McLaurin over the last two seasons with the contract stuff from last
02:42year,
02:43then the injuries last year, then the injuries this year, and now a significant injury.
02:49And when Dan Quinn spoke about it last night, he used words like heartbroken and fear and significant and gutted.
02:56And I think you couple some of that with the nature of the loss, right, where it looked like a
03:03thorough ass-kicking,
03:04and then you show some guts and are able to come back.
03:07Yeah.
03:09And last night, I just, you know, being in that locker room, talking to Dan Quinn, talking to Jaden Daniels,
03:17it just seems like a team that's bewildered, like a team that is lost in the wilderness
03:24and just doesn't know how the hell to get out.
03:29And coming to San Francisco, I don't, I mean, look at Vegas, right?
03:33Look at how the first half went.
03:35I don't think there was a lot of optimism that this team could get a win.
03:38And all I kept saying, and you also, B, was like, there's a reason they play the games.
03:42You never know exactly how it's going to shake out.
03:44And I thought, especially in the second half, that proved true.
03:49But you add this McLaurin injury to the list, and it sure looks like he's done for the season.
03:57And maybe that'll be different.
03:59Maybe it'll be a different, you know, like opinion from a doctor or whatever's going to happen there.
04:07But I just, I almost want to make sure as we focus on this team and where they are
04:14and where they're going and what needs to change and what could change and what will change.
04:19It's just, I almost want to make sure we give Terry the proper amount of time of like,
04:27tribute maybe sounds stupid.
04:29But the thing about it, bro, we've done that.
04:30We do that every time.
04:32We are not a group that tries to hate on him or down him.
04:37We've always talked about how special he was.
04:39We always talk about how vital he was and important he was to this football team.
04:42And you watch his play, and he's done that.
04:44He's proven that.
04:45So we don't have to stretch.
04:47I mean, it's a fact.
04:48You lose to somebody like Terry, you lose a lot.
04:51But I also believe, just like Tunsil, he'll be around.
04:55He can still give people that little extra oomph that they need.
05:00Maybe something he says about how they watch film or what you need to be looking for may help somebody
05:06out.
05:06But like, I think people like Terry, people like Tunsil, they are special in the sense that
05:13they don't have to necessarily be on the field to help.
05:17See, a lot of guys, if they're not performing, they're not helping because they don't talk to people.
05:22They don't try to make others better.
05:25They don't try to bring people along.
05:27Terry's sure of himself.
05:28So he's not going to have an issue still trying to make sure that this team and people in that
05:32receiving corps
05:33can learn a little bit more.
05:35Yeah, I do think it's a little trickier for Terry to be around with a major leg injury,
05:41whereas Tunsil, like, you see him walk around.
05:43You know what I mean?
05:44Like, it's easy for him to move about the building.
05:46You're going to be rehabbing.
05:47Yeah, sure.
05:48They got to come through.
05:49They're going to come through there.
05:50You're going to be rehabbing so you can always talk to him.
05:53I just, I hate that for Terry McLaurin.
05:57And I hope he's okay.
05:58And it's a person I've gotten to know pretty well over the years.
06:02And he does things the right way.
06:04And I just, I don't know how that's going to go and what happens next there.
06:10And in the meantime, you just hope he's okay.
06:13And, you know, there'll probably be a little bit of time as he's, you got to let swelling go down.
06:20It's going to take some time there to figure that thing out.
06:22But, and then you look at the receivers now.
06:28I pointed this out yesterday.
06:30I think we talked about it.
06:32Like, going into last night's game, going into the sixth game of the year,
06:38you had had Jaden and Chig and Steph and Terry on the field for roughly two quarters healthy.
06:45And then last night you get roughly two quarters healthy.
06:48And now it looks like Terry's going to be down for a while.
06:52And it's kind of just the theme of this team that, like, whenever one good thing happens,
06:58it's like two bad things happen.
07:00And some of that is the football gods, the will of the universe, whatever you want to say.
07:05I just, I, losing Terry on a human level is awful.
07:11And I hate it for him and his family.
07:13And I know these people and I hope, and like, he's going to be okay eventually, right?
07:17It's just going to take some time.
07:19From a football perspective, it's also a big time blow.
07:23Because late in that game, when they had those drives in the fourth quarter to maybe go take the lead,
07:30you could, they sure could have used a veteran wideout that knows how to get open
07:35and can make contested catches for you.
07:39And I thought Diggs was really good down the stretch and deserves credit.
07:41But Terry and Steph are just different players.
07:44Different players.
07:45And I think both of them together gives you more options.
07:48But I think Chig, the way he performed last night, now shows you the capabilities he has.
07:53So he's going to have to become a bigger part of this thing now.
07:57Yeah, and Chig was good early, made a couple tough catches late.
08:00They got Jaden kind of on those boots again, looking at Chig.
08:04Chig ended up as their leading receiver, seven catches for 69 yards.
08:08Burks is coming along, though.
08:09I need more of him.
08:11Big boy.
08:12Yeah, he's a unit, dude.
08:13He did, I think he left the game early.
08:17I saw him walking into the locker room late in that thing.
08:19I saw him in the locker room.
08:21He seemed okay.
08:23Javon Kinlaw, for what it's worth, saw him in the locker room with not quite the Terry McLaurin air cast,
08:29but Kinlaw had a massive.
08:31Well, anything on his leg is going to be massive.
08:34That's true.
08:35That's a big guy.
08:37The brace concoction he had on was huge.
08:41He was able to walk, though.
08:42Like, he was kind of walking with the brace.
08:45I don't know what the future holds for Javon Kinlaw, but definitely didn't look good.
08:51Just a brutal game.
08:54You know what?
08:55I called Doc last night.
08:56We're going to have Doc Walker join us at noon.
09:00Washington was outgunned against San Francisco.
09:02That team is really, really good.
09:04They have, to my math, and you tell me if you disagree,
09:08I think they have five Hall of Famers on that team in McCaffrey, Trent, Evans, Kittle, and Fred Warner.
09:16Brock Purdy this season playing at a really elite level.
09:21And credit to Washington's pass rush.
09:24Purdy had been sacked three times all year.
09:27He had not been sacked in the second half of a game all year.
09:32Washington was able to get to him in the second half of that game, and they deserve some credit for
09:35that.
09:37But, damn, man, I'm just so tired of sitting up here and saying, yeah, they deserve some credit for that
09:42when it's another loss or a freaky tie.
09:45I'll just say this, Jay.
09:46The 49ers played like bullies.
09:49Yeah, dude.
09:50They're physical.
09:50And we have to match.
09:54When people play like that, match it.
09:57One thing about football, bro, you don't bitch out for nobody.
10:01Okay?
10:02You start, like, Fred Warner did some illegal stuff.
10:06You can hit them hard.
10:08You can hit him hard legally, but you make them pay for stupidity.
10:12The ref is not going to call it.
10:13Make them pay.
10:14You got to be able to match that intensity.
10:18And you saw it.
10:19And what's number six?
10:21He hit like he a linebacker.
10:23You don't hit like a safety.
10:24So, any time people bring that, you got to have somebody to bring that back to them.
10:29So, whoever are the guys on the squad that has that level, bring it.
10:35Because that ignites the rest of your damn football team.
10:38You know who can play, and I don't.
10:40Fred Warner had some hits last night that you really wonder.
10:43But I think you're talking about Mustafa.
10:45That safety that came up on the J-Mac third down call.
10:49Mustafa can play, man.
10:51That dude.
10:52He brings it, bro.
10:53Absolutely.
10:54But, like, there are people on this squad that has that same thing.
10:58Bring that.
10:59Because sometimes people are looking for something to ignite them.
11:05And you might come up and hit somebody or do something, and you ignite the whole damn sideline.
11:12But when somebody started, and you can see when Fred started doing this thing, how they started to get hyped.
11:17Hey, show them you got that, too.
11:21You're listening to B. Mitch Finley.
11:23The phone line's open at 11 a.m. for Blame Pie.
11:26Bye.
11:26Bye.
11:26Bye.
11:26Bye.
