00:00:01Hello, hello, hello.
00:00:04I'm going to give it one sec just to make sure we got everything up and running correctly.
00:00:09But once we do, we will jump straight into it.
00:00:13This is our monthly live stream.
00:00:18Let me see.
00:00:19Looks good.
00:00:20All right, this is our monthly live stream.
00:00:22This is just an opportunity for you guys to ask questions.
00:00:26Pretty simple.
00:00:27I ask questions or I get asked questions all the time on email and LinkedIn and X and
00:00:31Instagram and everywhere else.
00:00:33And so this is just a way to do it live.
00:00:39The chat right there is where you're going to ask your questions.
00:00:42If you spam, I will block you.
00:00:45I'm going to do it.
00:00:47So don't spam.
00:00:49It's just not fun for anybody.
00:00:50And I'll just block you from the chat.
00:00:53It is what it is.
00:00:55With that being said, how this goes is we do about 50 minutes, maybe even 60 minutes
00:01:01of questions.
00:01:02We just hang out.
00:01:03We chat.
00:01:04You ask any question.
00:01:05If I want to answer it, I answer it.
00:01:07If not, I'll skip it.
00:01:08Sometimes people ask the same question.
00:01:10Like different people ask the same question.
00:01:12So I just answer it once, right?
00:01:16So with that being said, we're going to do that.
00:01:18And at the very end, I'll be doing a giveaway of Analyst Builder courses.
00:01:23Those are my courses that I've created.
00:01:24And you'll have an opportunity to get them for free.
00:01:27And so I hope that that is something that you're interested in.
00:01:31And if you are, stick around for that.
00:01:33With that being said, I would love to know where you guys are from.
00:01:37Looks like we already got someone from the UK.
00:01:39Hello.
00:01:40Welcome.
00:01:41I am on the east coast of the US and South Carolina.
00:01:44So if you are watching this, I'd love to know where you're from.
00:01:50Usually we get a very mixed group.
00:01:54Here we go.
00:01:55We got someone from India.
00:01:56I'll see where other people are at.
00:02:01I'm just looking.
00:02:02I'm looking.
00:02:05The delay, by the way, is about 30 seconds.
00:02:07So when I say it in real life, then I have to wait until you guys actually put it.
00:02:13But we got someone from South Africa, Orlando, Florida, Tunisia.
00:02:17Orlando, Florida is like within driving distance.
00:02:20I could drive to Orlando.
00:02:22But I don't go over there very often.
00:02:24I got Nigeria, Pakistan.
00:02:28Awesome.
00:02:29Very, very cool.
00:02:30Well, this is a pretty simple.
00:02:33Yeah.
00:02:34Another Tunisia.
00:02:35Oh, very cool.
00:02:36Very cool.
00:02:37South Africa, UK.
00:02:39Awesome.
00:02:39Well, thank you guys for joining.
00:02:41Feel free to ask questions.
00:02:43This is your time to ask questions about not anything.
00:02:46I mean, let's not be insane here.
00:02:48But if there's any questions you have about data, AI, analytics, careers, questions about me, I'd be happy to answer
00:02:59them.
00:03:02Miramar, Miramar, Florida.
00:03:04I've never heard of Miramar, Florida.
00:03:05Ethiopia, India, Tunisia, Somalia.
00:03:09Let's see.
00:03:12Very interesting.
00:03:13All right.
00:03:13We got our first question here.
00:03:14Let's go ahead and take a look.
00:03:16This is Alex.
00:03:16Alex, I'm 40, transitioning from 10 plus years in construction and electrical troubleshooting to data.
00:03:22Interested in data engineering slash quality?
00:03:25Where should I start with a foot-in-the-door job?
00:03:28I don't think there's any guaranteed jobs out there.
00:03:30I mean, just in general.
00:03:33But if you have knowledge in construction and, like, that's your thing, then, you know, I would try to leverage
00:03:42that a little bit.
00:03:43I don't know much about that industry, if I'm being honest.
00:03:46But there is a big data community, even in the construction domain.
00:03:51And so what I would be doing if I were you is I would first be learning the skills.
00:03:57You know, I could go through the list of skills that you need, but I've made lots of videos on
00:04:02those.
00:04:02And there are so many other great, you know, YouTube videos on what you need for data engineering.
00:04:08And so I recommend just getting those skills first and then, you know, customizing your resume to make sure it's
00:04:14to that domain.
00:04:15Someone from Gambia.
00:04:16I've got to look up where Gambia is, if I'm being honest.
00:04:18I've got to remember that.
00:04:20Chicago, I do know where that is.
00:04:22This question says, with Advanced SQL, Pandas, Power BI, and Excel, how do I get a good-paying data analyst
00:04:28job when AI is growing and analyst packages are generally low?
00:04:32What should I learn next?
00:04:34So if you're trying to get a good-paying job, and this is, like, my genuine advice, and some people
00:04:40don't like it, but this is what I think is accurate.
00:04:43The first thing is that if you're looking for a good-paying job, those are mostly at, in, like, metropolitan
00:04:49areas.
00:04:50It just is.
00:04:52You can get good-paying jobs online.
00:04:54I, myself, had a remote job for several years, and it was a good-paying job.
00:04:59But those are rare, especially today when a lot of people want to be remote.
00:05:06It's not easy to get, okay?
00:05:07So if you're wanting to make, like, $100,000 U.S., and you're wanting to do that online, you're already
00:05:13going to have to have a really good foundation, a really good career kind of in front of you to
00:05:17then leverage that into a remote job, in my opinion.
00:05:21So I don't think, from everything I've seen, I mean, there is still a lot of jobs out there, but
00:05:27you're going to probably need to go to those jobs.
00:05:31A lot of companies want to be in person these days, and that's understandable.
00:05:34It may not be what you want, but most of these jobs are in person.
00:05:39So, you know, in the U.S., I used to live in Dallas.
00:05:42That was a big hub for, you know, data work.
00:05:45So Dallas is great.
00:05:46Charlotte, North Carolina is great.
00:05:48New York, you know, there's lots of metropolitan areas on the East Coast, on the West Coast.
00:05:53So, you know, it's not what everyone wants to hear, but I tell people, if you want a higher-paying
00:05:59job, that's usually what you have to do.
00:06:01You also need to look at domain.
00:06:03If you're just, like, a general data analyst, but, you know, it's in some random industry that isn't very high
00:06:10-paying.
00:06:11For example, I was a nonprofit.
00:06:12I was making $47,000.
00:06:15That's not super high-paying, especially when I was in Dallas, where it's a high cost of living.
00:06:20So, you know, these are just things you need to look into and things you need to think about if
00:06:24you're willing to move for a job.
00:06:26Joined from India.
00:06:28Hope you are all right, Alex.
00:06:29I am.
00:06:29Thank you for asking.
00:06:30I appreciate it.
00:06:31Talk about the AI's impact on data analytics.
00:06:34Well, it's changing a lot of just how data analysts do their work.
00:06:39For example, I do, you know, consulting, and I do a lot of different projects, and I use AI for
00:06:44a lot of it.
00:06:45Do I use it for everything?
00:06:48Absolutely not.
00:06:49In fact, there's a lot of things that I just never even touch it for.
00:06:53Specifically in certain tools and in certain cloud platforms, you know, there are things that aren't just useful to use
00:07:01AI in.
00:07:02And so it absolutely has, I guess, impacted.
00:07:06I don't think it's negatively impacted analytics.
00:07:09I think that it's really made it even more useful.
00:07:13And, you know, something that has come out of this, which is really interesting, is something that I talked with
00:07:19a buddy of mine.
00:07:21They use Databricks.
00:07:23And Databricks has this thing where you can basically create all of these different layers and, you know, connect everything.
00:07:29And then you can give it to the end user.
00:07:32And the end user is basically, you know, just like your layman who wants to, a manager who doesn't know
00:07:38data.
00:07:39Maybe this is a customer who wants to query their own data.
00:07:43And that's fantastic.
00:07:44And then when they ask follow-up questions and something doesn't make sense, they're going to then send this to
00:07:50the analyst team to dig into it more.
00:07:52Because the AI output that they're getting maybe doesn't make sense.
00:07:56Maybe it's, you know, doesn't have all the context.
00:08:00And so this is where, again, you're going to get even more work from this.
00:08:05I think people think once you set it up, it's one and done.
00:08:08And you're like, hey, I'm an analyst.
00:08:09I have no more work to do.
00:08:11That is pretty far from the truth because you're going to have even more work to do.
00:08:16And so, yeah.
00:08:17Who cuts my hair?
00:08:19Believe it or not, I cut my own hair.
00:08:21I haven't had my hair cut by someone else in like 10 years.
00:08:25It's been a long time.
00:08:27What's the future of data look like?
00:08:30I mean, I think that data on a broad spectrum is going to grow immensely over the next 10 years.
00:08:40I mean, you can see the boom from like social media in 2008 to where we are now.
00:08:45It's been massive.
00:08:46The data needed to get to this next level of usability with our data is even larger.
00:08:55I know people don't like data centers.
00:08:57I'm not a huge fan, but there's a reason they're building them because there's such big need.
00:09:02And so there's justifiable pushback.
00:09:04I'm just saying there is even more need for data for this world that we're going into in the future.
00:09:10I don't think at all that data jobs are going anywhere.
00:09:14I mean, if you really look into it and you really know the industry, it's just going to create more
00:09:19jobs in my opinion.
00:09:20And I think, you know, that's been the sentiment for a lot of people, especially in like the last year.
00:09:25I think when AI first kind of really launched in late 2022, early 2023, it was a lot of just
00:09:31doom and gloom.
00:09:32All jobs are gone.
00:09:33Data has been solved.
00:09:35But as we've seen, it's only increased the need for a lot of people who are really data literate.
00:09:40And so it's going to increase jobs over time.
00:09:43I really do think that.
00:09:45Um, hello from Egypt.
00:09:46Hey, Egypt, man, I want to go to Egypt.
00:09:49How cool would that be?
00:09:51Uh, there's a lot of countries on my bucket list.
00:09:53My kids are just so little that I don't have, you know, the time to go travel a ton.
00:09:59Um, but as my kids get older, like there's so many places on my bucket list.
00:10:02I want to take the family and, and, uh, you know, people, uh, and go visit a lot of people
00:10:08just from these other countries that I've met over the years.
00:10:11Um, what would be your advice for someone in Nigeria trying to build a data analyst career to work remotely
00:10:16and to be able to be hired as a teacher by some technology organization to tutor people?
00:10:21That's a very specific question.
00:10:23I'm going to be completely honest.
00:10:24I don't know the Nigeria data analyst market.
00:10:28I just don't.
00:10:29I mostly know USA, Canada, and like Western Europe.
00:10:36That's actually like the extent of my really in-depth knowledge.
00:10:39I don't know a lot of Asia, Africa, South America.
00:10:42Like, I just don't know a lot about how it works there.
00:10:45Um, or, you know, how hiring works in those areas and where people are finding jobs.
00:10:51What I will say is my, probably my closest, uh, thing is back when I was an analytics manager, we
00:10:56hired, you know, from, uh, a lot of different countries.
00:10:59We had people in Mexico.
00:11:00We had people in Lithuania and we have people in the UK and all of those companies, my company found,
00:11:07and we, they were all remote hires.
00:11:08We found them through companies like Accenture or, uh, TCS, which is Tata Consulting Services.
00:11:15And so, you know, if you're able to get connected with some of those like consulting services, that's how you
00:11:20can get into these companies.
00:11:22And we would often hire from these companies full-time as well because if we really liked them, we would
00:11:27just say, hey, would you be interested in coming on full-time?
00:11:29And most of the time, they'd say yes because we could offer a higher package or higher pay package, uh,
00:11:33doing that.
00:11:34So, I don't know if that is super helpful, but that is the extent of my knowledge and, you know,
00:11:38maybe my advice for you specifically.
00:11:41Uh, give me one second.
00:11:42I'm going to read questions while I take a sip of water.
00:11:47Uh, here we go.
00:11:49For a job interview, is Excel plus Power BI more important than SQL or SQL plus Tableau?
00:11:54It is 100% dependent on the job.
00:11:57Like, read through the job description, see what's on there.
00:12:01The, the, each job is very unique, right?
00:12:04I have worked jobs where it was only Excel.
00:12:07My first job, my first job was only Excel.
00:12:09Then, the second job was SQL and Excel and Tableau.
00:12:13Then, my next job was SQL, Power BI, Excel, Azure, Databricks.
00:12:19And then, my next job, Python.
00:12:20And then, you know, you add them up over time.
00:12:22So, every job is different.
00:12:23Um, you kind of need to look at, excuse me, you need to look at the job and just see,
00:12:29hey, what is the main things?
00:12:31Now, just the core skills, things that I think you absolutely should know are SQL, Excel, a BI tool.
00:12:36I like Python.
00:12:38Learn Python.
00:12:38Uh, but you don't have to learn Python.
00:12:41Um, and then, you know, a cloud platform, right?
00:12:45It could be AWS, it could be Azure, uh, whatever.
00:12:47In healthcare, Azure is super popular.
00:12:49Like, Microsoft shops are everywhere in healthcare.
00:12:51And so, I know Azure really well.
00:12:53And so, I would be more available for more jobs.
00:12:56Or I would, I could apply for more jobs.
00:13:00Uh, and, uh, sorry, I was adjusting my mic.
00:13:05Uh, knowing Azure.
00:13:06And so, look at, look at, you know, what your industry that you're interested in is good for, or what
00:13:11they like, and do that.
00:13:13Is data worth pursuing?
00:13:15I actually think a lot of people have given up on, like, the data career, which is fine.
00:13:22I'm, it's not for you.
00:13:24If you, you know, if you think it's not going anywhere, don't do it.
00:13:26But I, being in the industry, talking to a lot of experts and managers and directors and all these things
00:13:32of, you know, even big tech companies.
00:13:34Uh, I, I was talking with one the other day, one that is a brand name that everybody knows.
00:13:39Then, and they were like, yeah, we're hiring more data people.
00:13:42We need more data people.
00:13:43We're actually processing and we're using AI a ton, but we need more.
00:13:48And that is what I see a lot of people misunderstanding, is they think that AI tools are just going
00:13:55to get rid of AI, get rid of jobs.
00:13:57I think they're going to create more jobs over time.
00:13:59And so, I think 100%, uh, as of right now, from everything that I've seen and heard and talked about,
00:14:05that is my genuine opinion.
00:14:07Uh, how to get your first internship.
00:14:10Internships are great.
00:14:11Uh, you don't have to have an internship to become a data analyst.
00:14:15I think that's common in other countries in the U.S.
00:14:17Internships in the data world are great, but they're not expected.
00:14:21Like, you don't have to have an internship.
00:14:23Um, what I would advise, and I don't know where you are, it's just a generic, you know, question from,
00:14:27I don't know where it's from, is, you know, one, if you went to college, usually colleges or universities have
00:14:34some type of career program where they help get you connected to, like, alumni who went to the school and
00:14:39can help get you internships.
00:14:40Will it be paid?
00:14:41I don't know.
00:14:42I hope it is.
00:14:43Uh, but I, I can't guarantee that.
00:14:45So, I would, you know, look at that first.
00:14:48The second thing is there's all sorts of internship programs out there where you can apply for these internships.
00:14:54You know, look at those as well.
00:14:56But from, I never got an internship.
00:14:59But everything that I've known is from other people who've gotten internships, and most of them did them through their
00:15:03university or their college.
00:15:05So, um, let's see.
00:15:12How do you make connections that can actually be helpful?
00:15:16Um, here's what I will say.
00:15:19I don't think you should go in.
00:15:21I mean, I, this is my opinion.
00:15:24There's a lot of opinions out there.
00:15:26But my opinion is I don't think you should go and only make connections to see what you can get
00:15:32out of it.
00:15:33Some of the best connections that I've made over the years were things that I did for other people.
00:15:38And then they remembered me later on, and they were like, hey, Alex, do you remember that thing you did
00:15:43for me way back when?
00:15:44I was like, yeah.
00:15:44And they're like, we would love for you to do that and, and come and, like, help us, and we'll,
00:15:48of course, pay you.
00:15:50And I made some amazing connections.
00:15:51Like, in, of course, you know, being on YouTube and, and, you know, doing this kind of work, I make
00:15:56a lot of connections that way.
00:15:57But even before I did that stuff, you know, I was working on projects online, and I was making connections
00:16:03at my, uh, at my work where I was working.
00:16:06And there's lots of ways you can connect with people.
00:16:08And so I don't think you should go into it saying, hey, how do I make connections that I can
00:16:13get something from it?
00:16:14You know, go in with, hey, I have this set of skills.
00:16:17Who can I help?
00:16:18What can I do with these set of skills?
00:16:20That will, I think, take you farther, in my opinion.
00:16:24Let's see.
00:16:25I work for a big bank right now in Toronto, but not job is not, I'm guessing you're saying that,
00:16:30but that job is not in technology.
00:16:32Hey, banking is huge.
00:16:34I had an opportunity to work at USAA many years ago.
00:16:37I didn't go into it, but, because I got a manager job at my healthcare company in IT.
00:16:42So, but banking is huge for data and data professionals.
00:16:48Massive.
00:16:49There's so many subsections of, like, data.
00:16:51It's not just working at big banks like USAA or Chase or all that.
00:16:55There are hundreds of, like, companies that are offshoots of that.
00:16:59And so, you know, that's a great use case for AI, by the way.
00:17:02Like, say, hey, I'm in banking.
00:17:03I want to get into data.
00:17:05What are the types of jobs?
00:17:06What companies should I be targeting?
00:17:08Excellent use case.
00:17:09Like, I 100% recommend doing that.
00:17:11Should I buy Microsoft Excel license or just the subscription?
00:17:15I am not sure if I'm going to get the full functionality of Excel if I get the license.
00:17:19If you pay for a license, you should get full functionality.
00:17:22With that being said, if cost is an issue, just, like, there are free options online where you can learn.
00:17:30They're going to have, maybe not all the functionality.
00:17:33They're going to have most of the main functionality.
00:17:35Now, if you're wanting to learn some of the more advanced things in Excel, like you're wanting to learn, like,
00:17:40Power Query and, you know, Power Pivot and, you know, all these different things, then, yeah, you've got to get
00:17:45Excel.
00:17:45I don't know cost-wise, like, I don't know what the best option is for you.
00:17:50But if you're just looking to learn some of the basics of working with data and the basics of, like,
00:17:55using Excel, you can, like, if you have a Mac, use Numbers.
00:17:59If you want to use an online-based one, use Google Sheets.
00:18:03It's free.
00:18:04Like, just do that.
00:18:05You don't have to use Excel.
00:18:08It just has more functionality than almost any other competitor.
00:18:12But you're not going to use everything.
00:18:14So, that might be okay.
00:18:18Oh, boy.
00:18:19Someone's spamming.
00:18:20Veena.
00:18:21Vinay Kumar.
00:18:22Got it right.
00:18:23Hey, listen.
00:18:23I told you if you spam, I was going to get rid of you.
00:18:25I'm going to put you in a timeout.
00:18:27I hate to do it, but I did it.
00:18:29All right.
00:18:29Let's keep going.
00:18:31Ooh, lots of good questions.
00:18:32You talk about finance analyst, financial analyst.
00:18:36So, of course, financial analyst is going to work within, you know, with financial data.
00:18:42What I think most people think of when they think finance analyst is banking.
00:18:46But believe it or not, I would say a lot of jobs are actually not in banking at all.
00:18:51We used to have an entire finance analyst team within my healthcare company.
00:18:56I didn't know that.
00:18:57I just learned that from, you know, working.
00:19:00But I used to sit next to them, and they would talk to me about all these tools that they're
00:19:03using, and, you know, they'd show me stuff.
00:19:05And I was like, this is really cool.
00:19:06I didn't even know within a healthcare company they'd have a financial team.
00:19:10They do.
00:19:10And so, finance analysts can be at almost any company, usually larger companies.
00:19:16They're not going to have them, like, maybe one at a small to medium-sized company.
00:19:21You see them more at bigger companies.
00:19:24They're going to use similar tools.
00:19:27But you have to remember, like, even, like, a healthcare analyst versus a financial analyst, healthcare, you're going to work
00:19:32in EHR systems and, you know, systems that are specific to, you know, healthcare.
00:19:40But you're pulling that data in.
00:19:42You're pulling it into a database, and you're going to work with it and all this stuff.
00:19:45It's going to be the same thing with, you know, financial data.
00:19:48You're going to pull that data from different financial systems, and you're going to pull that data in into SQL
00:19:55and use all these tools.
00:19:56There are different proprietary – they're not all proprietary, but there's lots of different tools that financial analysts specifically use.
00:20:03We used to use – at my old company, what was that tool we used?
00:20:09I'm trying to remember.
00:20:12If I think of it – well, we used SaaS.
00:20:15SaaS was one that we used.
00:20:17There was another one.
00:20:18I just can't remember off the top of my head.
00:20:19But then we used some third-party proprietary tools.
00:20:23Maybe it wasn't third-party.
00:20:25Maybe we built the tools.
00:20:26Some proprietary tool that I don't think anybody else uses.
00:20:29We just used it internally.
00:20:30And so this is one of those things that you can't really, like, study for.
00:20:35Do you have videos on Azure?
00:20:37I'd like to learn Azure having completed Power BI.
00:20:40I have an entire series on YouTube for free to learn Azure.
00:20:44You get free credits.
00:20:45You can take the entire series for free.
00:20:47I highly recommend going and taking that.
00:20:49Learn Azure for free.
00:20:50It's amazing.
00:20:51Go do it.
00:20:53What single portfolio project would impress hiring managers?
00:20:56Most real messy data or clean Kaggle data set?
00:20:59You know, I was on a hiring team for about two years, and then I was a hiring manager.
00:21:04I saw a lot of projects.
00:21:06A lot.
00:21:07Some of the ones that I remember the most, like, I remember some of these projects, like, really, really distinctly.
00:21:18And almost all those projects were not ones that you would find online.
00:21:24They were, like, ones that they created themselves that they were passionate about.
00:21:26Because then they would talk about it.
00:21:29Like, they were really excited about it.
00:21:30So, for example, I remember this one guy.
00:21:32He was really into Pokemon.
00:21:34Made this huge Pokemon data set himself.
00:21:39And then, like, talked about how he created it.
00:21:41And, like, it's a big hobby of his.
00:21:44And I remember that really distinctly.
00:21:46So, projects don't have to be, like, this, like, massive thing.
00:21:51And, you know, if you're really passionate about it and you, you know, build something with it, I think that
00:21:56speaks more than anything.
00:21:58With that being said, don't only do passion projects.
00:22:01Include some, like, if it's healthcare.
00:22:03I always use healthcare as an example because that's my background.
00:22:06If you're going to get into healthcare analytics, make a healthcare project.
00:22:10Make one or two of those and then do a passion project.
00:22:12You know, whatever it is.
00:22:14That's my recommendation.
00:22:18I want to learn machine learning for data science.
00:22:20Any advice?
00:22:21I mean, find some good machine learning content on YouTube.
00:22:24That's a great place to start.
00:22:26There's tons of courses out there.
00:22:28That's not my channel.
00:22:29But, you know, definitely look into that.
00:22:32I've completed your data analyst boot camp, but I'm more towards the data scientist role.
00:22:36So, should I start from data analyst or go directly to data scientist?
00:22:39It's up to you.
00:22:41I had the opportunity many years ago.
00:22:43This is, like, five years ago or so.
00:22:45Maybe six.
00:22:47To be, they wanted me to join as a data scientist, as a junior data scientist on their team, in
00:22:53my data science team, which I was already a part of.
00:22:55I was a data analyst on a data science team.
00:22:58And I worked with our data engineering group underneath the data science.
00:23:02I worked with a data scientist, data science team with a lot of data scientists.
00:23:06And they wanted me to come and do that.
00:23:08But it was not something I was interested in.
00:23:11Like, I did not enjoy it.
00:23:13That wasn't my thing.
00:23:14Like, machine learning models was not something I was super interested in.
00:23:17It just wasn't.
00:23:18And so, I liked the analytics side of it.
00:23:21I didn't want to work in R like they were working in all the time.
00:23:24It just wasn't my thing.
00:23:26I also knew that I had kind of a career trajectory that I was going for anyways.
00:23:30And so, I was like, I'm not going to do that.
00:23:32That was like, right as I was starting my YouTube channel.
00:23:35I could have changed my YouTube channel if I wanted earlier on.
00:23:37But, you know, I liked analytics.
00:23:41Like, that's what I enjoy doing.
00:23:42And so, I think, you know, look at it and really see, hey, what do you want to do long
00:23:45term?
00:23:46Because those can be very different careers.
00:23:49Very, very, very different.
00:23:51Sometimes there's some overlap in jobs.
00:23:53Like, what I was doing back in the day.
00:23:55The data scientists were a lot in the machine learning.
00:23:58But I would help them with a lot of things.
00:24:00And so, you know, just something to think about.
00:24:03But, I mean, it's fine what you enjoy and that you're going to, like, be able to do long term.
00:24:09Is it still possible to join as a data analyst fresher?
00:24:12Absolutely.
00:24:14100%.
00:24:15I get messages all the time.
00:24:17I sometimes post them on social media, people that message me.
00:24:20But that's like one one hundredth of the messages I get.
00:24:24I get messages, like, almost every day of, hey, I watched your content.
00:24:28I, you know, did this and I got a job.
00:24:31Like, thank you so much.
00:24:32And a lot of it is first time people from different industries and domains.
00:24:37Like, I was a doctor.
00:24:37I was a nurse.
00:24:38I was, you know, a teacher.
00:24:40I was a construction worker.
00:24:41I was a warehouse worker.
00:24:43And then they got the skills.
00:24:45They plugged it in.
00:24:47They, you know, followed the formulas that I've been putting out for years.
00:24:50And it worked for them.
00:24:51It doesn't work for everybody.
00:24:52I'm not saying it's like you do it and you're going to get a job.
00:24:55But all the people that messaged me, they say they followed it almost exactly how I told them to do
00:25:00it.
00:25:00And they got a job.
00:25:01And so it absolutely is still possible.
00:25:05Do you think being a medical school graduate and going into the healthcare sector for data analysis is really worth
00:25:10pursuing or not worth it?
00:25:11It absolutely can be.
00:25:13I worked on a very specific team back in healthcare.
00:25:19It was Specialty Physicians Solutions, SPS.
00:25:26And we used to work with tons of doctors, specialists, specifically in oncology and hematology, so cancer and blood.
00:25:34That was like my, I would say now it's like my specialty.
00:25:37Like, if I got back into it, I would pick it up again.
00:25:41And everyone on our team, or not everyone, but there's a big portion of our team that were previously nurses,
00:25:49previously doctors, previously, you know, an oncologist, which is a doctor.
00:25:54But they were specialized in these areas and they really knew the data side of things really well and the
00:26:00patient side.
00:26:00And so then they helped us and our team inform, you know, all these companies.
00:26:04So having a background in something like healthcare and just the medical world in general, especially if you have hands
00:26:13-on.
00:26:13Like, if you've already, you know, gone through, you know, your rotations and you've gone and done your residency and
00:26:19all these things, that is super valuable.
00:26:22I mean, it really is.
00:26:23Like, within healthcare, it's really valuable.
00:26:25So, yeah, definitely can be a great career.
00:26:28And I worked out on, it was at Marisource Bergen, but now they merged with another company.
00:26:32It's called Syncora.
00:26:33But all their competitors, whether it's, what was that big one?
00:26:38Well, there's McKesson.
00:26:40But there was another one.
00:26:43I'm blanking on the name.
00:26:44But all those big companies, they hire tons of doctors and tons of medical people for their data knowledge.
00:26:51So if you have the data skills plus the medical knowledge, it's super useful.
00:26:54And that's transferable to all these different industries.
00:26:56It's not just healthcare.
00:26:57I'm just using it as an example because that's also the question.
00:27:02Alexandra Howland.
00:27:03Hi, Alex.
00:27:04A fellow Alex the Analyst here.
00:27:06You can't, there's so many of us out there.
00:27:09There's so many of us.
00:27:11Alex, we're all Alex the Analyst.
00:27:13I love it.
00:27:14It says, really enjoying your content.
00:27:15I'd love to get better at scoping out data requests.
00:27:17Any advice, tips relating to what approach you take when scoping a request?
00:27:20Absolutely.
00:27:22I still do this to this day.
00:27:23I get emails all the time from companies, individuals, whatever.
00:27:28And even today, I still have to use those skills of how long is this going to take?
00:27:32I don't want to get, now I'm too close to the screen.
00:27:34How long is this going to take?
00:27:36You know, how much is going to, what amount of effort do I need to put into this?
00:27:42And, you know, what's this going to cost?
00:27:43Now, that's because I'm, you know, a consultant right now.
00:27:47That's like a big part of my business is I work with companies.
00:27:51But back when I was an analyst, scoping projects was like a huge piece of it.
00:27:55I think that it really is a skill.
00:27:57It's something you learn over time.
00:27:59I don't think anybody starts out really knowing how to scope projects.
00:28:03And it also is internal.
00:28:05Like we used to use Agile or NJira, the Agile methodology.
00:28:10And you just kind of learn with that.
00:28:12So here's what I would typically do when I get like a data request.
00:28:16Someone would come up to me or they'd send me a note or an email and say, hey, Alex.
00:28:19Remember that project you did for us three months ago?
00:28:21Well, we want this and this and this and this added to that and this revised.
00:28:25And so I would think to myself, okay, when we did that initial project, it took like two weeks.
00:28:32They're wanting some modifications.
00:28:33But I know that when I go back and they want to make these changes, I'm going to have to
00:28:39do some, you know, change some fields.
00:28:42Which is going to mess up some of the queries.
00:28:43So I'm going to go back and fix those queries.
00:28:45That's going to take, you know, a couple hours.
00:28:47And then, you know, there's some dependencies on that data.
00:28:50And so I'll have to go and fix those.
00:28:52And okay, and you know, I have to communicate with them.
00:28:55That's going to take a while.
00:28:56I'm a classic overshooter for my time.
00:28:59So if I think it's going to take a week, then I would say, hey, it's going to take me
00:29:02two weeks.
00:29:03Because I'd rather overshoot the time than undershoot it.
00:29:06That's my general, like, methodology.
00:29:09I don't know if it was the best idea, but it always worked for me.
00:29:11They always, like, under-promised, over-delivered.
00:29:14That's, you know, I think that's a good thing to do.
00:29:18So, you know, a lot of it is just you need to know your processes really well, how long it
00:29:22actually takes you to do these things.
00:29:24And, you know, I think just having an in-depth knowledge of, like, what you've done in the past, what
00:29:30it's going to take in the future.
00:29:31And you learn from there, and you get more accurate as you go, right?
00:29:34I used to scope things for, like, two days, and it would take me a week, and my team would
00:29:37be mad at me.
00:29:38Then I scoped it for, like, a month, and it took me, like, three days.
00:29:40And then you slowly start working your way to the middle, and you're like, okay, I think I got it.
00:29:44So it's a real skill that you learn over time.
00:29:48Oh, geez, I skipped down to the bottom.
00:29:50I'm sorry, guys.
00:29:51I skipped some people's questions, I'm sure of it.
00:29:53Let me go back up a little bit.
00:29:55I'm going to get some water while I try to find where I was.
00:30:04Oh, gosh.
00:30:06There's been so many questions since then.
00:30:10All right, I'm just going to pick up wherever I can.
00:30:25Listen, I like LinkedIn.
00:30:28I've used it for a long time.
00:30:30I think of LinkedIn as just, like, a necessity in today's market.
00:30:34Make a good LinkedIn, you know, make it look really nice, create a nice image, a nice header, all these
00:30:41things.
00:30:42When it comes to portfolios, I think you need both.
00:30:45I look, and I've talked about this so many times, I look at things on, like, a spectrum of, like,
00:30:49percentages.
00:30:51Here's 0%.
00:30:51Here's 100%.
00:30:52Maybe I should do the opposite.
00:30:53I don't know.
00:30:54But here's 0%.
00:30:55Here's 100%.
00:30:57When you start over here in 0%, let's say you, you know, you create your LinkedIn profile, you have a
00:31:01good resume, all these things.
00:31:03You're giving yourself, like, a 30% chance of getting noticed and applying and people looking at it.
00:31:08Having a portfolio website is maybe, like, another 10%.
00:31:11So why not just do both?
00:31:14Why not give yourself that extra 10%?
00:31:16Why does it have to be one or the other?
00:31:18I want to optimize my percentage chance of getting an interview and getting a job.
00:31:22So you want to optimize that process?
00:31:25Get a good resume.
00:31:26Get a good LinkedIn.
00:31:28You know, apply for jobs.
00:31:29Reach out to recruiters.
00:31:31There's a lot of things that you can do to increase your chances or your percentages.
00:31:35It doesn't make any guarantees.
00:31:35It just increases your percentages.
00:31:41Hello, sir.
00:31:42I hope you are doing well.
00:31:43Can you please make a full, complete course of data engineering?
00:31:46I want to work in Japan.
00:31:47Please, sir, make a video.
00:31:49It will be a great help.
00:31:50So I have a lot of pseudo data engineering content.
00:31:55A lot of it's more analytics focused.
00:31:57So, like, if you go on, later on, we're going to give away free courses on Analyst Builder.
00:32:01On Analyst Builder, we have a new roadmap called Analytics Engineering.
00:32:06It teaches you a lot of the core skills of creating ETL processes in things like AWS, Azure Databricks,
00:32:14Snowflake, doing more advanced SQL, store procedures, things like that.
00:32:19These, like, that is right now what I have.
00:32:21You can do that a little bit with some of my YouTube content, but it doesn't go in depth enough
00:32:26like the core, like that roadmap does.
00:32:28It has, like, 60 hours of content.
00:32:30It's a lot.
00:32:31So I may try to bundle that together on YouTube and make, like, a data analytics engineering video,
00:32:41but it's not going to be as in-depth or as good because I didn't make it like that intentionally.
00:32:45Not intentionally.
00:32:45When I made that content, like, a year, two, three years ago, I didn't have that in mind.
00:32:50And so I would need to probably make more content to fill in those gaps, and that might take quite
00:32:55a while because I have a long roadmap of content already.
00:33:02Interesting.
00:33:03Hello.
00:33:03Good afternoon.
00:33:04I just started learning in my foundation level for data analytics.
00:33:06Currently working as a driver in a bank.
00:33:09So wondering what is the work of a data analytics in a bank?
00:33:14It's very, very, very, very wide.
00:33:16There's so many things.
00:33:17But let me walk you through because I had a – he was a co-worker.
00:33:20He went over to USAA, and then he wanted me to work with him.
00:33:24And his name is Azmat.
00:33:25Hey, Azmat, if you're watching.
00:33:26I don't think you are.
00:33:27But hey, Azmat.
00:33:28Azmat's awesome.
00:33:28He was working, I'm pretty sure, at USAA.
00:33:32And a lot of their stuff was on fraud detection.
00:33:35Okay?
00:33:37There's so much fraud in the banking world.
00:33:39So this is just one tiny niche.
00:33:41But you can imagine the amount of data that they have to go through to be really accurate with this.
00:33:48It's a ton.
00:33:49And so they used to do a lot with fraud detection.
00:33:51There's a lot of, like, risk analysts within banking for, you know, knowing when to, you know, loan to people
00:33:58or not.
00:33:59I mean, there are a lot of just systems in place to do that.
00:34:02But they have a lot of manual people who go in and get hands-on with the data, too.
00:34:08You know, they automate a lot, but they also have a ton of people who do it hands-on.
00:34:13And so there's a ton of different areas.
00:34:14I can't go into all of them.
00:34:16But those are just, you know, examples.
00:34:19Apart from Python, SQL, Excel, and Power BI, what else should I learn?
00:34:23I'm in my final year of college and not sure which career path to choose, so I want to keep
00:34:27my options open in multiple fields.
00:34:31And I think that's perfectly fine.
00:34:33Like, when you're in college, you don't know what industry you're – maybe you don't know what industry.
00:34:36Maybe you do.
00:34:37But keep your options open is totally fine.
00:34:39Again, what I would say is that's a great foundation to have, Python, SQL, Excel, Power BI.
00:34:46Like, those are the core things I think you should learn.
00:34:48The next things I think you should learn, and I have all of this stuff for free, like, on YouTube.
00:34:51Like, go and check it out.
00:34:53AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake.
00:34:56Pick one and get, you know, really good at it.
00:34:59I would recommend doing Azure and Databricks.
00:35:02Those are my two personal favorites.
00:35:06You can learn Azure and Snowflake, but again, if you know how to use one or two of those, my
00:35:13personal preference, Azure and Databricks.
00:35:15If you know those two, you're going to really know how kind of those ecosystems work, and you can then
00:35:22deep dive into those if you need to.
00:35:24That's just my recommendation.
00:35:26And then, you know, once you get your first job, then see if you like that industry.
00:35:29If not, try to change into an industry you're interested in because you – once you get that domain knowledge,
00:35:34you're going to start making more money.
00:35:35So, for example, healthcare.
00:35:37When I was in healthcare, I was like, oh, I can make more money in healthcare.
00:35:40So, I kept going up in healthcare.
00:35:42But if I became a senior data analyst in healthcare, and then I tried to switch over to finance,
00:35:47maybe they'd hire me as a senior, but maybe they'd be like, hey, you don't know financial data at all.
00:35:52Like, that's not helpful to us.
00:35:53It'd be really hard to break into financial – as a finance analyst.
00:35:59It'd be a lot harder.
00:36:00So, earlier on in your career, try to find that niche that you're going to like long-term.
00:36:08I answered some of those before.
00:36:17Will this live stream be available to watch later?
00:36:18Yes.
00:36:19Yes.
00:36:19They are recorded, and then you can watch them on my YouTube channel.
00:36:23How to become a competent data analyst?
00:36:25What books do you recommend?
00:36:26All right, now listen, I've written my own book, BAM.
00:36:29I don't even know if – you can just Google it beyond the interview.
00:36:33I've written a data book, but that's not the kind of book I wrote.
00:36:36Mine is like after you get your first data analyst job, here's what you do.
00:36:40To get – to become – actually become a competent data analyst.
00:36:45Oh, maybe that is exactly what that is.
00:36:48I was thinking – when I read it, I was thinking like how to become a data analyst.
00:36:51Just, you know, how to, you know, learn the skills and all these things.
00:36:56Yeah, check out my book.
00:36:58That is the – I hate to be that person, but I don't learn – I personally didn't learn a
00:37:05lot from books when I was starting out.
00:37:06So, I don't have a lot of data recommendations when it comes to books.
00:37:10Other than – I wrote this one, and it's like after you get the job, how do you become a
00:37:14really good analyst and get promotions and find your niche and, you know, work office politics and all these different
00:37:20things, things that I just learned as I went through my career.
00:37:23You know, check that one out.
00:37:24It's really good.
00:37:25I don't even think I have it in the description, do I?
00:37:28No, I don't.
00:37:29Yeah, that's all right.
00:37:30You can just Google it.
00:37:31So, let's see.
00:37:35How much time do we have?
00:37:36Oh, it's 11.37.
00:37:37All right.
00:37:37We got about 15, 20 minutes, and then we'll do our giveaway at the end.
00:37:46Currently, I'm watching your videos.
00:37:47You have amazing content.
00:37:50Nobody says that.
00:37:51Everyone's like, Alex, give me – give us more.
00:37:54Alex, we want this.
00:37:56We want that.
00:37:57Nobody ever says thank you.
00:37:59I'm just kidding.
00:38:00I'm just trying to make other people feel bad.
00:38:03I'm just messing.
00:38:05Now I feel like a jerk because everyone's like, no, no, it's not true.
00:38:11I'm just messing with you guys.
00:38:12I really do feel the love a lot.
00:38:15But I'm glad you're finding the content useful.
00:38:18There is enough content on my YouTube channel to watch for years and learn from.
00:38:24Years.
00:38:24Because it's taken me like six years to make.
00:38:27Like, so to actually, like, ingest all of it and take all the lessons and learn all – I
00:38:31mean, that's got to be – that's got to be, like, over a year and a half's worth of content
00:38:35for just one person.
00:38:36It has to be.
00:38:38How much Python is actually enough to get hired as a junior data analyst?
00:38:42Do employers care about advanced stuff like OOP or just pandas and empy and data cleaning?
00:38:46All right.
00:38:47Excuse me.
00:38:51Oh.
00:38:54Oh, my mom found her dog.
00:38:56Her dog ran away last night.
00:38:58The dog came back.
00:38:59It was a big old pug.
00:39:03Hideous dog.
00:39:05Let me zoom in on this face real quick for you guys.
00:39:09I'm going to – this is the dog that they desperately wanted to find.
00:39:13That's it.
00:39:14That's the looker.
00:39:17That dog looks like it did not want to be found.
00:39:22That dog looks like, man, I wanted to be free, and they picked me up and they found me.
00:39:31Anyways.
00:39:33Anywho.
00:39:33Now I'm just laughing.
00:39:36What was I saying?
00:39:37Okay.
00:39:38Sorry.
00:39:39Python.
00:39:40Python.
00:39:41All right.
00:39:45So Python.
00:39:46For junior data analyst jobs or, like, just getting started, I recommend learning, like,
00:39:51the basics of Python, learn variables and all these different things.
00:39:55I highly recommend for data analyst jobs that you learn things like pandas or polars or numpy,
00:40:01like you were saying.
00:40:02I think that is good enough for almost any junior data job.
00:40:05So that's my opinion.
00:40:08I have been using Python professionally a long time, probably eight years now, like,
00:40:14in professional settings.
00:40:15And those are the ones I keep going back to time after time.
00:40:24All right.
00:40:24Let me see.
00:40:25Sorry.
00:40:25I'm still laughing about the book.
00:40:28I'm going to give it a heart.
00:40:29Now I feel bad.
00:40:30She's watching this.
00:40:31I feel bad.
00:40:36Good times.
00:40:37Good times.
00:40:38I bet now you're happy that you're part of the live stream.
00:40:43You know, it's not going to be as funny watching it back in a few hours.
00:40:47Like, yeah, you got to get that live.
00:40:49That's the face only a mother could love that dog.
00:40:57Oh, all right.
00:41:00I introduced my friend to your channel today.
00:41:03He had an interview, and he did really well because of you.
00:41:05I'm so glad to hear that.
00:41:07I actually have an entire data interview playlist specifically made for people who are going through data interviews.
00:41:14So that's one to check out for sure.
00:41:18The analytics ecosystem is evolving rapidly.
00:41:21Which tools and platforms are you currently leaning toward, and what makes them stand out for you?
00:41:24That's a great question.
00:41:26So, you know, something that's unique about, like, what I do in my profession and me as, like, an influencer,
00:41:32which I don't like that term, but, you know, I have influence.
00:41:36People recognize me.
00:41:37Is that I get reached out to by, like, some of the coolest companies.
00:41:41Some of them are, like, really niche and are like, I just, you know, they want me to, you know,
00:41:46advise them or, you know, whatever.
00:41:48And sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
00:41:50But I get my hands on on some really cool technologies within the analytics world that almost nobody else gets
00:41:57to do.
00:41:58And so I feel like I have a really good perspective on this.
00:42:03I use this one as an example a lot.
00:42:06And this is still my opinion.
00:42:08And even though they've been a sponsor of me for a long time, I use them even before, and I
00:42:12use them even when they're not sponsoring me because I like them.
00:42:14But Databricks, all right, no, don't get mad at me.
00:42:16I like Databricks.
00:42:17The reason I like what Databricks is doing is because I think they're putting the user experience first as, like,
00:42:26an analyst.
00:42:27The user experience being, don't text me.
00:42:31The user experience being, as an analyst, when I say user, I meant, like, as, like, a data analyst, as
00:42:38the professional, is they are making it easier to do our work while still allowing us to do all the
00:42:45work needed as an analyst all on one platform.
00:42:48So with that being said, you can use the AI tools to help you do a lot of your work,
00:42:53but you still have the ability to code everything, change anything, to customize anything.
00:42:58And the AI is more of a help, an assistant.
00:43:02It, I've been, I've used a lot of Databricks.
00:43:05It cannot do everything for you.
00:43:07I've even demoed it to the Databricks team.
00:43:09Like, I was working with them.
00:43:10I was saying, hey, you know, I don't think you should advertise it like this because it can only do
00:43:16X, Y, Z.
00:43:16It's not doing those other parts that you said it could do.
00:43:18At least not every time or accurately or whatever.
00:43:21And they changed their verbiage on that.
00:43:24And so I think Databricks has done a really good job.
00:43:26And so I think that this AI integration within two platforms is going to be 100% commonplace in almost
00:43:35every tool.
00:43:36It already almost is.
00:43:38Like, it's very, very common.
00:43:41But those are the types of tools and platforms that people are, like, going into.
00:43:45And that's why Databricks is such a massive company is because they are really on the cutting edge.
00:43:51And there are other companies that have done something similar and added on to it and done better to it.
00:43:56Ones that even I've worked with and consulted with and advised.
00:44:00But they're just not as big.
00:44:02And so, you know, if you want to go with one to, like, learn from, go on Databricks.
00:44:05That's the one I'd recommend.
00:44:11All right, let me scroll down a little bit.
00:44:17But, okay, now we're spamming.
00:44:19Now I've got to put you in timeout.
00:44:20It says, put a user in timeout.
00:44:22That's literally what it says.
00:44:23I feel like I'm putting, like, a kid in timeout.
00:44:25It feels bad.
00:44:26I don't feel bad.
00:44:27It just feels like, you know, I feel like a little kid.
00:44:30Anywho, let's keep going.
00:44:31If you had to pick three certificates, what will they be?
00:44:34Now, you guys know my stance on certificates.
00:44:36I'm not a huge fan.
00:44:37I have a bunch myself.
00:44:38I don't even put them on my resume.
00:44:40I just don't.
00:44:42I never did.
00:44:42Even when I was, like, even before I did, like, the kind of work I do now, I didn't put
00:44:47them on my resume.
00:44:48It just didn't seem useful.
00:44:51The ones I like, the ones I actually learned something from, the ones that may carry a little
00:44:55bit of weight, like, in the world.
00:44:57I like any of the Power BI certifications.
00:44:59I like the Azure certifications.
00:45:00I like the AWS certifications.
00:45:03Those are all, like, data analyst-specific ones.
00:45:05You can just Google them.
00:45:05If you go to alextheanalyst.com, I also have this.
00:45:08I think there's only two on there, but I have the two certifications that I like.
00:45:12I have them both.
00:45:13I learned a lot from them.
00:45:15I got to flip this over.
00:45:16My friend group chat is going off.
00:45:19Those are the only ones, like, I really recommend because they're difficult to do.
00:45:25They're not easy, and they're from, like, companies that are, you know, good companies, good
00:45:31solid companies.
00:45:34Let me see.
00:45:38Answered some of these questions before.
00:45:43He said, I'll buy you a gift, a watch, or something like that.
00:45:48How do you know I like watches?
00:45:50Yeah, I don't talk about it a lot on the channel, but I do have a small collection of watches.
00:45:56They're all, like, 500 bucks or below.
00:45:58This is my favorite.
00:45:59I wear this one the most.
00:46:00It's just a classic G-Shock.
00:46:02It's my Casio.
00:46:04I wear it swimming.
00:46:05I wear it hiking.
00:46:07I wear it when I work out.
00:46:08I just wear it all the time.
00:46:09The other ones are, like, slightly fancier.
00:46:11I'll wear them to, like, church.
00:46:12I'll wear them, you know, for, like, business stuff or, like, when I go to, like, conferences
00:46:16and stuff.
00:46:16But this is, like, my daily driver.
00:46:18I wear it.
00:46:18I've had it for, like, 10 years.
00:46:19The battery still has not died.
00:46:21It's incredible.
00:46:22It's not even the solar-powered one.
00:46:24Anyways, but he said he's going to buy that something for me on his first salary.
00:46:29Apart from your curse, I've already bought two of them.
00:46:30That's awesome.
00:46:32Hey, listen.
00:46:33That's more than enough.
00:46:34You don't have to buy me anything.
00:46:35But if you do want to buy me something, I'm a huge fan of Seiko's.
00:46:39Like, even the, like, they have this new line.
00:46:43I can't remember what they're called, but they're, like, diver watches.
00:46:46I like diving watches.
00:46:47And they're not even that, I mean, hey, listen.
00:46:49I mean, they're not cheap, but they're not, like, you know watches.
00:46:52If you know watches, watches get real expensive.
00:46:55So anything under, like, 200 bucks, man, that's a steal.
00:46:58Seiko's so good.
00:46:59I have a few Seiko watches.
00:47:03Anywho, that's a really nice of you.
00:47:05Uh-oh.
00:47:06I'm putting someone else in timeout.
00:47:07All right, we got time for a few more questions.
00:47:10And then we will get to the giveaway.
00:47:16Give me a second, actually.
00:47:19Let me come here.
00:47:28Let me do.
00:47:34There we go.
00:47:35All right.
00:47:36I'm ready.
00:47:36So when I go, I'm going to give you a code.
00:47:40That's how it's going to work.
00:47:41I'm going to give you a code.
00:47:42You have to have an Analyst Builder account.
00:47:44I'll walk you through how to do this.
00:47:46I mean, just a little bit.
00:47:48Anyways.
00:47:50Excuse me.
00:47:52All right.
00:47:54Seiko Alpin is such a, that's a great, I don't have that one.
00:47:57With the green dial, I would love that one.
00:47:59That one's so good.
00:48:02I think once I hit, like, maybe once I hit 1.5 million, I might buy myself that one.
00:48:06Yeah, I got to convince the wife.
00:48:08I got to be like, hey, yeah, it's a big milestone.
00:48:10I got to do it.
00:48:13All right.
00:48:15I got time for a few more questions.
00:48:19I don't have desktop Excel, only Google Sheets.
00:48:22Is that enough for me to get hired as a junior data analyst?
00:48:24Or will employers expect Excel skills specifically?
00:48:27Listen, if you use Google Sheets, if you use a lot of the functionality in Google Sheets,
00:48:34because you can connect to data in Google Sheets, you can learn most of what is on Excel.
00:48:39Just put Excel on your resume.
00:48:40If they ask about Excel, just say, hey, you know, I like Excel.
00:48:43I'm more proficient in Google Sheets.
00:48:45It's very similar.
00:48:45I know how to do pivot tables.
00:48:46I know how to do charts.
00:48:48I know how to clean data, yada, yada, yada.
00:48:49It's more about the skills than it is, like, specifically Excel.
00:48:52So just put that on your resume if you've been using it.
00:48:56Yeah.
00:48:57I love Iran cars.
00:49:00Stop spamming people.
00:49:03Exactly.
00:49:04Exactly.
00:49:05You like watches and perfumes.
00:49:06My family is big into, like, scents, like colognes and stuff, and I like watches.
00:49:11Anyways, now we're just chit-chatting.
00:49:13Now we're getting off topic.
00:49:14I only have time for a few more questions.
00:49:17What do I think about the Google Data Analytic Certificate?
00:49:22Okay, so listen.
00:49:23I love Google.
00:49:25I'm big fans of Google and a lot of the content that they make.
00:49:28The certificates that they have, like, on Coursera are not ones that, like, employers are looking for.
00:49:32They're more for just, like, education.
00:49:34All right?
00:49:34So their Google Data Analyst Certificate that came out in, like, 2022, I think,
00:49:40it's good for, like, super basic entry-level information about learning about the field,
00:49:45learning about some of the tools.
00:49:46It's useful.
00:49:48There is a use case for it.
00:49:49But if you're a data analyst, like, that is not something you need.
00:49:52It's just not.
00:49:53Now, they have an advanced Google Data Analyst Certificate or certification that focuses on Python.
00:49:58And I actually like that one a lot more.
00:50:00I just put out a video, I think it was last week, talking specifically about that,
00:50:04how I like the more advanced one.
00:50:05So if you didn't watch that video, go look at the Coursera courses video that I put out, like, last
00:50:12week.
00:50:15Let's see.
00:50:16Oh, I forgot.
00:50:17People were wanting me to do, like, more ASMR-type stuff.
00:50:20I told them I would.
00:50:21But I won't do it that much.
00:50:23Maybe I'll do it later with the codes.
00:50:25All right, we got time for a few more questions.
00:50:27Then we'll get to the giveaway.
00:50:31Anyway, how long will it take to learn Power BI?
00:50:34You can learn the basics of Power BI in, like, a week, a couple days, genuinely.
00:50:42Give me a second.
00:50:43I need some water.
00:50:43If you want to learn Power BI well, or, like, to be really proficient, you got to get your hands
00:50:48on some, like,
00:50:49you have to, like, get a job with Power BI.
00:50:51Because Power BI goes way more in-depth than most people realize and know.
00:50:55That's just the truth.
00:50:57Okay.
00:51:02All right.
00:51:05Okay.
00:51:06Good question.
00:51:06I use a Mac, and there's no straightforward way to use Power BI on Mac.
00:51:11Use Parallels.
00:51:12You may have to pay for it.
00:51:13They may have a trial version, though.
00:51:16Parallels, I've done it myself.
00:51:17It allows you to have, it's basically a VM.
00:51:21It allows you to run Microsoft operating system to where you can run Power BI.
00:51:27So, Parallels, Parallels.
00:51:29Check that one out.
00:51:31All right.
00:51:33A couple more questions.
00:51:34We still got time.
00:51:35We still got time.
00:51:36Hi, Alex.
00:51:36What do you think about Microsoft Fabric skills?
00:51:38Do I need to learn it?
00:51:39No.
00:51:41Listen, I worked in a Microsoft shop.
00:51:43We used Azure out the kazoo.
00:51:44I've used Fabric.
00:51:48Blow my nose.
00:51:49I'm going to get out of screen this time, because last time I blew my nose on the live stream,
00:51:53it was like in screen.
00:52:03Thank you, Allogies.
00:52:05They're wonderful.
00:52:09What was the question?
00:52:11Microsoft Fabric.
00:52:12It's not like my preferred platform.
00:52:14It's not bad.
00:52:15I used it for several projects.
00:52:18Our team, we didn't use the Fabric.
00:52:21We didn't have the subscription.
00:52:22My company did.
00:52:23I was working with another department.
00:52:24I used Fabric for a few projects.
00:52:26It was pretty good, but it's not like my first choice.
00:52:29Our team used Databricks, a lot of Azure Data Studio, things like that.
00:52:39All right.
00:52:41I got time for maybe one more question.
00:52:44If you could go back to the start of your career, what's one thing you'd learn earlier
00:52:50because it's proved the most useful now?
00:52:52Now, I'm actually, I can't pinpoint to one thing.
00:52:55That's actually really difficult.
00:52:57I accidentally learned SQL right at the beginning of my career.
00:53:02That turned out to be one of the best skills ever.
00:53:06And it still continues to be one of the most in demand and the best skills.
00:53:10I'd learn that.
00:53:11The other thing that I would learn is, and I teach this on my channel all the time,
00:53:17but I didn't know this at the beginning of my career, which is I didn't know what tools
00:53:22to learn.
00:53:23I didn't know what things I should be learning.
00:53:25Having an actual roadmap of things that you should be learning, it would be invaluable.
00:53:32I would highly recommend starting out with Excel, SQL, Power BI, learn those skills, but
00:53:38then have a roadmap of the skills within your industry or your company or whatever that you're
00:53:41going to learn independently.
00:53:43I would highly recommend doing that.
00:53:47And so, you know, that's kind of something I've learned over time is just, you kind of
00:53:54have to, you don't want to just be complacent.
00:53:57Like, if you're proactive, I proactively learned Python myself in my free time, and then I started
00:54:02using it in my job, and then things started getting implemented, and they were like, wow,
00:54:05this guy knows Python.
00:54:06We haven't used Python on our team before.
00:54:08This is great.
00:54:08So be, I would want to, I would tell myself, be more proactive, even more than I was.
00:54:15And so, yeah, that's what I would say.
00:54:21There's a lot of questions here.
00:54:22I got to get to the giveaway.
00:54:25I hate to do it.
00:54:26I got to get to the giveaway.
00:54:29It's all about the giveaway.
00:54:32I am going to show you exactly what you need to do.
00:54:36I'm going to do something, I'm going to do something crazy here.
00:54:40I need to log in real quick.
00:54:42Go to analystbuilder.com.
00:54:44That's where the giveaway is.
00:54:45If you want to enter the giveaway, you do not have to.
00:54:48I'm just signing into my account real quick, and then I'm going to share my screen.
00:54:54Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
00:54:58Okay.
00:55:00I am signed in to my account.
00:55:03Let me go over to my screen in just one second.
00:55:08Boop.
00:55:08All right.
00:55:09You should be able to hear me.
00:55:11Here's what we're going to do.
00:55:12Go to your account.
00:55:13Sign in.
00:55:14Go to the pricing page.
00:55:17So we're going to go to pricing.
00:55:21What you're going to do is come to courses, and you need to come through here and choose
00:55:24a course.
00:55:26Whatever course you're like, oh, I really want to get this Excel for data analytics course.
00:55:31Or maybe you want the Power BI course.
00:55:33A lot of people have been talking about Power BI.
00:55:36Okay.
00:55:36I want this Power BI course.
00:55:37Click buy.
00:55:38I'm not going to click on it because I think it brings up my financial information.
00:55:43But click buy, and then there's going to be enter promo code.
00:55:46That's where you're going to enter the code I'm about to give you.
00:55:49That's all you got to do.
00:55:51I'm going to give you like a minute.
00:55:52It doesn't take long to sign up.
00:55:53You can just sign in with like Google or something.
00:55:55Also, my dogs are going crazy out there.
00:55:57I hope you can't hear them.
00:56:01I'm going to click on it now, now that you can't see my screen.
00:56:05And right here, it takes you to the checkout page, and it says add promotion code.
00:56:08Get ready to add the promotion code.
00:56:14I'm about to give it to you.
00:56:17Now, I give out a code, and you need to be the first person to type it in, apply it,
00:56:23and buy it.
00:56:24If you apply it, and it goes to zero, and you just sit there, someone else is going to buy
00:56:30it, and then they will get it.
00:56:33Now, this has happened in the past where somebody's accidentally paid for a course.
00:56:37That is not what I'm trying to do here.
00:56:39I don't want you to pay for anything.
00:56:40So if that happens, you can go on to your purchases and get an immediate refund.
00:56:45You don't even have to email support at alisbuilder.com.
00:56:48You don't have to email us.
00:56:49You can get the refund yourself.
00:56:51We trust you.
00:56:53That is how our platform works.
00:56:54So if you buy the course and it was an accident, just go get the refund for free.
00:56:58It's easy.
00:56:59All right.
00:57:00I am about to create some codes here.
00:57:06I've had an issue with people guessing the codes before the giveaway.
00:57:11It happened lots of times.
00:57:14I'm really impressed by how well people know me.
00:57:16It's kind of scary.
00:57:17But now I create the codes live so that nobody can guess them.
00:57:21No one is going to guess this one.
00:57:23I guarantee it.
00:57:24Now, I'm going to limit the number of times this can be redeemed.
00:57:28I'm going to give a total of 10 courses away.
00:57:3210.
00:57:33So you have 10 opportunities.
00:57:34This one code, three people.
00:57:38Actually, no.
00:57:39Two people.
00:57:39Because I will do one later.
00:57:40That's bigger.
00:57:41Two people can redeem this code.
00:57:44All right?
00:57:45The first code, in all caps, I just added it.
00:57:51It's powpow, P-O-W, P-O-W, power, B-I, powpow.
00:57:57I bet someone was going to guess, oh, you guessed friendship.
00:58:01Wrong.
00:58:03Not friendship.
00:58:04That was from the last live stream.
00:58:08It was.
00:58:08I'm looking at the live stream last ones.
00:58:11The last one was G-Shock, friendship, live, I-L-Y-S-M, for I love you so much.
00:58:17Those were the codes for the last live stream.
00:58:19Not this time.
00:58:20You're not guessing them this time.
00:58:22First one's powpow.
00:58:24All right.
00:58:25I'm sure people are.
00:58:26It doesn't.
00:58:26There's a delay between the things.
00:58:28I'm going to start with the next code.
00:58:31My dog, Max, is going crazy out there.
00:58:34He's just going crazy.
00:58:36All right.
00:58:36Let me get the next code.
00:58:43Two people can redeem this one.
00:58:45It's all caps.
00:58:47Watches.
00:58:47I did it again.
00:58:48Man, I said G-Shock in the last one.
00:58:50People, we always end up talking about watches.
00:58:53Fun fact, my very first YouTube channel was called The Berg Source.
00:58:58You can look it up.
00:58:59It's still, all the content's still out there.
00:59:00And I reviewed and did watches.
00:59:03I did it on my iPhone like eight.
00:59:06The quality is not very good.
00:59:09If it says it's invalid, somebody else got it before you.
00:59:13I don't make the rules.
00:59:14All right.
00:59:15Somebody else got it before you.
00:59:17But there's more chances.
00:59:19All right.
00:59:19Powpow.
00:59:20Those are taken.
00:59:21If you got it, you got it.
00:59:24DTI6866 says, I got it.
00:59:26If you did get it, please let me know what course you got.
00:59:31Because I'm really interested to see what people choose.
00:59:32It's usually not the ones I like think they would.
00:59:36So go ahead.
00:59:37Let me know which one you got.
00:59:38All right.
00:59:39We've used four of them.
00:59:40This last one.
00:59:43That's what I said.
00:59:44This last one, six people are going to be able to get free courses.
00:59:49Because that's two plus two plus six.
00:59:57You're never going to guess who this code is.
00:59:59Six people.
01:00:00I just added the promo code.
01:00:02The code is LAST1.
01:00:04All caps, one word.
01:00:06LAST1.
01:00:07Because this is the last code.
01:00:09All right.
01:00:10People redeem the watches one.
01:00:12If you got it, you got it.
01:00:15If you got it, you got it.
01:00:17If it says it's invalid or it didn't work,
01:00:20it means that somebody else got it before you.
01:00:23You got to be faster.
01:00:26That's all I can say.
01:00:29That's all I can say.
01:00:30Someone just said, Alex, I bought the yearly plan,
01:00:32forgot to apply the discount code.
01:00:34Absolutely, I can help you with that.
01:00:35You can either directly message me on LinkedIn,
01:00:38or you can email our support team at support at analystbuilder.com.
01:00:42And we'll take care of it.
01:00:44I can either, you know, I'll just...
01:00:48I don't know if you can just get the refund yourself
01:00:50on your thing for subscriptions.
01:00:53Anyways, we'll take care of it.
01:00:54You just message me or our support team.
01:00:56We will handle it.
01:00:58Don't worry about it.
01:00:58Hey, I love Iran cars.
01:01:01They said I got it.
01:01:02What course?
01:01:02If you got it, please let me know what course you got.
01:01:05That's my payment,
01:01:07because then I get a little data on you guys.
01:01:09I get a little information.
01:01:10That's my payment for getting the course.
01:01:13You will know you got the course
01:01:15if you go to your purchases tab,
01:01:18and you see it there.
01:01:19That's 100%.
01:01:19It's yours forever.
01:01:21You get that course for life.
01:01:24And I hope you enjoy it, genuinely.
01:01:27So all I ask is that you let me know what course you got.
01:01:31Databricks, that's one of my favorite courses, by the way.
01:01:34It's a great course.
01:01:35I hope you enjoy that.
01:01:36It was legitimately one of my personal favorites.
01:01:39Somebody got the cloud competing with Azure and AWS.
01:01:42That's I love Iran cars.
01:01:43That's another fantastic one.
01:01:45I think it's so useful today,
01:01:47because I don't think there's enough content on it in general.
01:01:50I have an AWS and Azure series on YouTube,
01:01:52but the course goes way more in-depth.
01:01:56Okay, got the statistics course.
01:01:58That's a fantastic one.
01:01:59Fun fact, I am right now recording
01:02:01the advanced statistics course.
01:02:03So that one will be probably available next month.
01:02:08We're doing some releases,
01:02:09some other releases before I release that course.
01:02:15Pandas for Python, amazing.
01:02:17Like, if you are wanting to use Python as a data analyst,
01:02:21like, Pandas is so good,
01:02:22and that course goes really in-depth.
01:02:24And then Menard, Solarian7830,
01:02:30got the Power BI course.
01:02:32Fantastic.
01:02:33Yeah, you guys, I don't think,
01:02:35none of these are surprising me.
01:02:37Those are, like, probably some of my more popular ones.
01:02:40Let's see which other one.
01:02:42Yeah, I'm not going to go look at it.
01:02:44There were some ones that people were choosing
01:02:46in the last one where I was like,
01:02:46I wouldn't have thought you guys would choose that one.
01:02:49It was, like, the advanced Excel one,
01:02:52and there's another one.
01:02:54But you guys are choosing ones
01:02:55that I think are, like,
01:02:56some of the best courses on it,
01:02:57genuinely, some of the best courses.
01:03:02All right.
01:03:05Listen, that's the giveaway.
01:03:07I hope you got a course.
01:03:09If you didn't,
01:03:11oh, someone else got the Databricks.
