00:01New Delhi was under heavy security on Friday, ahead of a planned tricolor rally by the youth-led
00:08Cockroach Janta Party, CJP, in support of its detained senior leaders. An Indian court ordered
00:15two CJP leaders to be jailed for five days, the party and police said on Wednesday, a day after
00:21they scaled barricades to enter a historic site previously used for protests and chanted slogans
00:27demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police said the
00:33site, previously designated for demonstrations, was no longer an official protest venue. CJP
00:40founder Abhijit Dipke said the movement's sole demand was the removal of Kumar, whom he accused of
00:46orchestrating voter list revisions that critics say favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Paratia
00:52Janata Party, BJP.
00:54We are just asking accountability for what Gyanesh Kumar has done in the election, which
01:00did not make the approval of the Supreme Court in the form 6. The other two commissioners
01:06said that they were not aligned on the decisions that were taken. We just want to remove Gyanesh
01:12Kumar and make someone else's decision. We are not saying that we are not saying that we are
01:16not saying that we are not saying anything else. We are just saying that the Gyanesh Kumar
01:21is doing the election, who is not listening to our fellow election commissioners, who is
01:26listening to our Supreme Court, who is not listening to the Supreme Court, take it and become a new
01:30election commissioner.
01:31The election commission has denied favoring any political party and said voters whose names
01:36were wrongly deleted could re-enroll. The BJP, meanwhile, has accused its rivals of trying
01:43to undermine democracy by questioning legitimate electoral processes. The CJP movement has staged
01:49protests in recent months over issues ranging from government school infrastructure to employment,
01:55emerging as a prominent political challenge to Modi and his BJP during his twelve years in
02:01power.
