00:00All right, man, let's shift gears and talk to Jahan Dotson,
00:03Falcons wide receiver here on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
00:05And Jahan, man, appreciate you jumping on with us.
00:07It's Dukes and Bell.
00:08And look, when we talked to you at camp, you said, I'm coming in.
00:12I am a big believer in the process.
00:13I just want to come in, do what I can do.
00:16And then, you know, the season starts the way it does.
00:19And obviously, you know, you're not seeing balls.
00:21That's not been the case the last few weeks.
00:24Tell me about this process that you've been going through, man,
00:26and staying focused about how you can just help this team.
00:30You know, for me, it's not really too much results-driven.
00:35It's all about the process, you know.
00:36And for me, that's getting open, making sure I'm in the right spot
00:41at the right time for the quarterback.
00:42And when those opportunities come my way, make a play for the quarterback
00:45and make a play for this team.
00:47So, you know, that's been my thought process, you know,
00:51going into each and every week.
00:53And like you said, you know, progressively,
00:55it's been getting a little bit better for me.
00:57I've been getting a couple more opportunities.
00:58But, you know, that's the name of the game, you know.
01:02Be where you're supposed to be, be on time, and make a play.
01:04So, you know, that's what I'm trying to do.
01:05Well, the man is definitely taking advantage of the eight receptions.
01:08He's averaging 18.6 a tote.
01:11The story, John, and tell it to our audience.
01:12Everybody made it sound like you were going,
01:14Coach, Coach, we've got to run that play action.
01:16It'll work.
01:17And you get that for a touchdown of the Saints.
01:18Talk about the leading up to that, the week of practice,
01:21and the play itself.
01:22Yeah.
01:24Great play design by Tommy.
01:27You know, I was calling for it during the second quarter.
01:31I was trying to get it off the call sheet.
01:33I told one of our assistants to give me a headset so I could talk to Tommy
01:37and tell him to get it off the play sheet.
01:39But, yeah, you know, like I said, great play call.
01:43And, you know, very well-executed play.
01:44Shout out to my guy, CB, in the receiver room,
01:46getting the chip block on Chase Young for me.
01:49Just giving us enough time to make it happen.
01:51But, yeah, it was a great team effort.
01:54Everyone did their 111th, and we were able to get sticks on the board.
01:57Jahan, are you saying you saw that play in your head working in the second quarter
02:01way before we ran it?
02:03You saw it?
02:04100%.
02:04Okay.
02:05And why?
02:06Just because of the defenses they were in, or are you just the personnel?
02:09Yeah.
02:10So, I don't know if you guys remember,
02:11but we ran about three or four out routes to number 29.
02:17Okay.
02:17And we were just hitting them over and over again.
02:20We completed a couple.
02:21We didn't complete.
02:21We had one to me on third down we didn't complete.
02:24We had one to Zachariah we completed in the first quarter.
02:28I think Drake maybe ran one.
02:30And, you know, that stuff like that, you got to notice during the game.
02:33And you got to notice how the DBs are starting to play different towards different routes.
02:39And you got to communicate that stuff when you come off the sideline.
02:41So, you know, that was something that I was communicating to the coaches that I was seeing on the field.
02:45And, you know, like I said, I wanted them to get the playoff in the second quarter.
02:49I was asking for it because I just saw how the DB was playing the technique.
02:53That would be Quincy Riley.
02:54Shh, don't tell anybody from the Saints.
02:56Hey, man, Jahad Dotson is with us, guys.
02:58Now getting ready for Dub Bears.
03:00Talk about, you know, the juice.
03:02Because we haven't had a chance to talk to you since Michael Penix Jr. returned.
03:04Talk about the bounce and the juice you're getting with Mike out there and how the team is rallying around
03:08him.
03:09Yeah.
03:10You know, he's our quarterback, man.
03:14We're ready to go to war for him.
03:17You know, he brings a different energy to the team.
03:20He kind of brings a spark.
03:23Not too much about what he says, but just how he plays.
03:26You know, he carries himself.
03:27You know, like I said, he's a leader in this offense.
03:31He leads us.
03:32And like I said, we're ready to go to war for him.
03:35Jahan, if you would, talk about this offense, man.
03:37We're still learning about Tommy Reese, if you would, the communication there when you guys are, you know, putting the
03:43game plan together.
03:44And then like this week, you're getting ready for the Bears.
03:46What's that been like?
03:48And how does it compare to the places you've been, whether it was, you know, Washington or Philly?
03:52And then is it a hard concept?
03:55Like how much more difficult is it from what you've had to deal with in the past?
04:00Yeah, I mean, I've been around a lot of offenses.
04:03I think this is probably like my eighth offense in the last eight years, dating back to like my sophomore
04:09year in college.
04:10So obviously it's just learning different terminology.
04:14But I would compare it to Philly in a sense that it's fun during the week when you're going through
04:21the route concepts and the different plays that you see guys are going to get.
04:24And you can kind of see it in your mind working on Sunday.
04:29Just because we have so many playmakers, you can kind of envision, you know, Kyle running across the middle of
04:34the field making a play.
04:35Drake running across the middle making a play.
04:37Me going deep making a play.
04:39Zachariah taking a gallow for 80 yards.
04:42Like you can see those things in the meeting room.
04:44And then, you know, obviously it's about getting on the practice field and getting those reps in.
04:49But, yeah, like I said, it's just a fun group to be a part of because we have so many
04:54weapons.
04:55And, you know, we can get these guys the ball and we can truly, everyone's capable of taking a freaking
05:03five-yard slant to the house.
05:05So it's really fun just game planning with these guys.
05:07And the coaches do a great job of preparing us day in and day out, making sure that, you know,
05:13we're ready on Sunday.
05:14We're talking with Jahan Dotson, guys.
05:16Number one first-round pick, I should say, from Penn State back in the day.
05:19And you mentioned Zachariah Branch.
05:20And I know your job is to do your thing, but are you cool with mentoring and helping a young
05:24guy like that?
05:26Absolutely.
05:27Just because you see yourself in him.
05:31You know, you were once in his shoes.
05:33A young guy trying to make a way for yourself, you know, make a name for yourself.
05:38And just trying to make a play.
05:40And, you know, we talk all the time.
05:45And, you know, our receiver room, we're very fortunate to be very close with each other.
05:50So, you know, we're kind of like brothers in a sense that, you know, we always trying to help each
05:55other.
05:55We always want to see each other win.
05:57This is probably the most unselfish group I've been a part of, receiver-wise.
06:03You know, receivers can get the stigma of being divas and being selfish.
06:07But, you know, this is honestly probably the most unselfish group I've ever been a part of.
06:11And we all want to see each other win.
06:12So, you know, we're all helping each other out at all times and trying to make sure that, you know,
06:16we're all in the right spot.
06:17Yeah.
06:18A young guy like him, he has so much talent.
06:20And we all see it.
06:21And so, you know, any chance we get to help him speed up his process and make plays for a
06:27football team, we're doing it.
06:29We're talking with Jahan Dotson, guys, here on Sports Radio 92.9 The Game.
06:32It's Dukes and Bill, our squad getting ready for the Bears on Sunday at home.
06:36And, Jahan, I'm curious.
06:38Who talks the most ish in that room, man?
06:40Who's that guy?
06:41Is it Drake?
06:42Because Drake, we know he can get amped up.
06:43But you've got to kind of push him.
06:45He doesn't start it.
06:46You know what I mean?
06:46So, who's that guy?
06:48I would definitely say Drake.
06:50Okay.
06:50I would definitely say Drake.
06:52Either Drake, ZB is the second.
06:55He's a quiet, sneaky one.
06:57Hmm.
06:58Yeah, I would say Drake and ZB for sure.
07:02Me and OZ were kind of the more relaxed, chill, you know, simmered down.
07:08But those, especially Drake.
07:10Drake is riled up.
07:11It doesn't take much for Drake to get riled up.
07:13It's crazy because Drake, like, flips a switch.
07:15So, you know, he's one of the calmest, nicest people.
07:18And between the lines, he's insane.
07:21But it's a fun dynamic to be around.
07:23Right.
07:24And it's a good group of guys.
07:26And speaking of good dudes, it almost sometimes feels like Bijan is too good to be true.
07:29He just seems like such a good dude.
07:31Yeah, absolutely.
07:32Absolutely.
07:33Like I said, we just have a great group of guys on this offense.
07:36Like, it's truly, I kid you not, the most unselfish team I've been around.
07:40Like, everyone wants to see each other win.
07:42Everyone wants to celebrate each other.
07:45And, yeah, like you said, Bijan's special.
07:47Not only on the football team, but just as a person in general.
07:51Yeah.
07:52All right, man.
07:53Well, look, we know you guys are putting in the work.
07:55I'm just curious.
07:56What have you seen on the Bears so far?
07:58What do you think about this matchup going into Sunday?
08:01Yeah, they got a great group.
08:04You know, they fly around, try to make plays.
08:07Got some veterans in the secondary and Jalen Johnson.
08:11TJ Edwards back in the middle of the defense.
08:14But, yeah, they got a great group.
08:17You know, they pride themselves on taking the ball away.
08:20And, you know, as an offense, we pride ourselves on maintaining and keeping the ball.
08:24So, you know, we got to do that.
08:26We got to execute.
08:27But it's going to be fun.
08:29It's going to be fun for sure.
08:30Did you guys bust Jake's balls about not catching that ball, man, in the end zone?
08:34Nah, nah.
08:36Two sore subjects.
08:37I wasn't here last year.
08:38Apparently, there was some trauma with Arizona last year.
08:41Yeah.
08:41So, it was a touchy subject.
08:46But, yeah, we didn't let him have it.
08:49Yeah, that was tough.
08:50Hey, by the way.
08:51Maybe a couple weeks down the road.
08:52All right.
08:52We can't laugh at it just yet.
08:54And then, finally, how's Penix look?
08:57He's good.
08:58He's looking good.
08:59Obviously, I don't know what's, you know, injury status and everything like that.
09:03But, to me, he's looking good.
09:05He's out here slinging it.
09:07Yeah, he's looking good.
09:08All right.
09:09That's good news.
09:10Jahan Dotson, brother.
09:10We appreciate you, man.
09:11Good luck.
09:12Go catch another touchdown.
09:13Tell coach a call to damn play, will you?
09:15Absolutely.
09:16Absolutely.
09:17Appreciate you, guys.
09:17Yeah, man.
09:18Good stuff.
09:18He is contributing, guys, and, you know, he came in here, and, Mike, that was one of
09:24the signings I liked.
09:25I think he got a multi-year deal, if I remember correctly.
09:27Yeah, he's only one of the few guys who got a two-year deal.
09:29And I like what he's showing us, but we know, man, this thing, when it's clicking, and we've
09:35seen it a couple times now, it's hard to stop.
