00:00It's Jahan Dostow with us, guys, former first-rounder out of Penn State,
00:02and we talked to you last week about your time in D.C. and Philly.
00:06You feel like it's really becoming a home here in Atlanta?
00:09Yeah.
00:11It's been cool.
00:12It's been really fun.
00:14You know, getting more and more comfortable each and every week.
00:19Like I said, you know, I'm around a great group of guys every single day
00:22who make it super easy for me, and it's starting to feel like home.
00:26Jahan, we know you want to get acclimated in the community, man,
00:29and be out amongst the people, and we love that.
00:33So, you know, our partnership with you, we're happy to have you on the show
00:37and join us here on 92.9 The Game.
00:3987 yards, three balls last week.
00:41Mike mentioned that 41-yard catch, which was the big one down the field there.
00:45I want to ask you about – you just talked about a great group of guys.
00:48We saw – I think it was various times, but it may have been Bijan at first,
00:53then it was Drake, then I think you came over at some point to talk to ZB.
00:57And, man, look, for Falcon fans, you know, there were a lot of things
01:00that went wrong on Sunday, but to see you guys really console him
01:04as a young player, just talk about that, if you would, a little bit.
01:08And what was your message, and then did you hear what Drake
01:10or Bijan was saying to him?
01:13Yeah.
01:14You know, for us as a team, like I said, we have a great group of guys, right?
01:19And, you know, we really pride ourselves on being brothers
01:24and looking out for each other and making sure that each other is good,
01:27not only on the field, but, you know, off the field, checking up on each other.
01:32And when you have a dynamic like that, it's easy to play for each other.
01:36It's easy to, you know, go out and put your heart on the line for each other.
01:42So, you know, in times of, you know, discomfort, you know,
01:49when someone makes a mistake or anything like that,
01:51we want to be there for each other, and that's all we were trying to do.
01:55I'm pretty sure Bijan went up to him and said a prayer with him.
02:02You know, he's big into his faith.
02:05You know, Drake, I'm not sure what Drake said,
02:08but I know it was words of encouragement, letting them know that, you know,
02:14you got plays to make in this game.
02:16And we're going to lean on you.
02:18We're going to come back to you.
02:19And that was kind of my message as well.
02:21I know the capability he has as a player.
02:25And I know when you're young and things like that happen,
02:28you know, you can get down on yourself.
02:30So, but, you know, just remind them there's no time for that.
02:34We got to go out and make a play.
02:37And you're one of the guys who we feature on this team to make plays for us.
02:41So, you know, go out there and don't think about it.
02:44Just go make a play and do what you do.
02:46Yeah, man, we love Zach Ryab Branch, love his energy.
02:48And, again, it just kind of shows you the team vibe
02:50because that's one of the guys I'm as excited about seeing this year.
02:52And, again, he's got to flush it out of his system and get rolling.
02:55Talking with Johan Dotson, guys, here on Dukes and Bellwide,
02:57receiver for the Falcons.
02:58How do we get back on track?
03:01Are we getting out in your – from how it looks to you as a player,
03:03it's almost like they're taking things away, other defenses.
03:06How do we counter that?
03:08Yeah, I mean, we've got to get the ball to our playmakers.
03:11We've got to execute.
03:14That's all it really is.
03:16Credit the Bears.
03:17You know, they did a great job trying to take away some things.
03:22But, you know, we've got to just get back to the drawing board.
03:25We know what we want to do as a football team.
03:27We want to be a – we want to run the ball.
03:30We want to be a physical football team.
03:32And that's what we're going to get back to doing.
03:34And that's going to open stuff up for Drake, me, Kyle.
03:39But, yeah, we know the players that we have on this team.
03:43We know we're not far.
03:45And we've got to get back to the drawing board, hit the ground running,
03:48and get back on the winning track.
03:51We've got the 49ers coming up on Sunday.
03:53Jahan Dotson joining us here on Dukes and Bell, guys,
03:55giving us some more insight into our Falcons and what's going on with him.
03:59I have to ask you, brother, about Jalen Hurts.
04:02It's the biggest story in the NFL right now.
04:06Obviously, he's done for the season for this medical situation and blood clots.
04:10First question is, have you spoke with him?
04:12Have you reached out because we know you played with him and you know him well?
04:15And then, secondly, what kind of person is Jalen around the guys?
04:20Because, you know, we've watched him from afar.
04:22Obviously, you know, he's won a Super Bowl, was MVP.
04:25But, Jahan, I mean, you were with that dude for a few years.
04:28And to see anybody have to deal with this and now, you know,
04:31hoping for the long-term future of a guy like Jalen Hurts,
04:34everybody's got their fingers crossed.
04:35Anything there from you about have you reached out and what kind of guy he is?
04:40Yeah, obviously, you know, horrible news to hear, right?
04:46You never want to hear about anything like that going on with anyone.
04:50Anyone you know, anyone who has to deal with things like that.
04:54I haven't reached out yet.
04:55I want to.
04:56Yeah.
04:57I want to let, obviously, I want to let things die.
04:59I know his phone and stuff is probably blowing up right now
05:02and different things like that.
05:04So I want to let things die down a little bit.
05:05And, yeah, I'm going to send my prayers out to him, hope for speedy recovery
05:11and everything's all right.
05:12But, yeah, just seeing stuff like that is tough,
05:18especially sharing a locker room with a guy
05:22and going to battle with a guy.
05:24You know, you build a sense of connection.
05:27So I almost feel like family.
05:28And when stuff like that's happened to a family member, it's tough to see.
05:32That's the thing, man.
05:33We talked about, you know, the attitude in Alabama, you know,
05:36how he didn't pout, you know, when he got benched for Tua Tungabailoa
05:39and how he goes on to Oklahoma and he gets all the way to the Super Bowl.
05:41By the way, where do you keep the Super Bowl ring?
05:43I just thought of something.
05:44Where do you keep the Super Bowl ring?
05:46I let my dad keep stuff like that.
05:48Oh, cool.
05:49Yeah.
05:49Yeah, he's big into collecting.
05:52He's got my entire – actually, he bought a mannequin.
05:55He put my entire Super Bowl uniform on it.
05:59A mannequin?
05:59He bought a mannequin?
06:01Yeah, he bought a mannequin.
06:03It just sits in my parents' house.
06:04So he's got everything dating back to middle school,
06:09middle league championships, and he's got it all.
06:12Cool.
06:12Yeah, look, obviously you've experienced a lot of winning in your career.
06:17How frustrated has it been the way the season has started for us?
06:20Is it frustrating for you or are you just at a point where you know,
06:23hey, it's the league, man, and things will certainly –
06:25you know, there's give and take in this thing?
06:28Yeah, I mean, you know, obviously me as a competitor, I always want to win.
06:35I think I hate losing more than I like winning.
06:39So, like, obviously it's tough, but, you know, with my experience
06:44and being in this league for five years, you know, you can't win them all.
06:50You're going to play a good team every single week,
06:54and sometimes they're just going to have a better day than you on Sunday.
06:58But, you know, the year we won the Super Bowl, we started out 2-2.
07:03Like, it can be things like that.
07:06You know, we won 10 games straight, but, like, you've got to go into it week-to-week
07:11and have a different mindset of just going 1-0 each and every week.
07:16We can't worry about our record right now.
07:18It's early in the season.
07:19I mean, we're, what, six games in?
07:21Yep.
07:21Into a 17-game season?
07:23Like, we have so much time, and everything's right in front of us.
07:27So, we really just got to – first, we got to come out Wednesday,
07:31and we got to have a hell of a practice.
07:33That's where it starts.
07:35And when we get to Sunday, we'll take care of what we need to take care of.
07:38But, you know, we got to take this day by day, week by week,
07:41and not look too much on the future.
07:45And, Jahad, you know, because as fans, we're sitting in the stands.
07:48You know, we look at the game, and sometimes, you know,
07:50everyone wants to talk about the scheme and how do we – what's the game plan?
07:53Is it – when you look at some of the films, is it just about guys winning the one-on
07:56-ones?
07:56Is that what it takes?
07:58It's all about execution.
08:00You know, our coaches, they do a great job of preparing us for what we need to do on time.
08:08I can't tell – like, this is a perfect example of just great coaching, right?
08:13So, like, I can't tell you how much last week we talked about starting fast.
08:18Like, I don't know what came across Coach Stefanski
08:21and if he just had something that came into his head earlier in the week,
08:26but the whole week was start fast, start fast, start fast.
08:29And what did we not do on Sunday?
08:32Start fast.
08:33We didn't start fast.
08:34Right.
08:35And if we started fast and we finished the game how we did,
08:39we would be having a different conversation, right?
08:42Right.
08:42So, it's about execution at the end of the day.
08:45Our coaches, like I said, they do a great job of preparing us
08:48and putting us in great positions to make plays and necessarily win football games.
08:54So, you know, we got to do our part and execute and, you know,
09:00do what we need to do to put ourselves in a good position to win football games.
09:05Jahan Dotson, man, we're looking forward to spending a lot of time with you
09:08over the course of the season, getting to know you even more,
09:10getting more insight from you as the Falcons get ready for the 49ers.
09:15Before we let you go, man, NBA starts tonight.
09:16You an NBA fan?
09:18Yeah, I'm an NBA guy.
09:19Yeah, I'm going to tune in tonight.
09:22Nick's going to run it back or no?
09:25No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:27I don't think so.
09:27I'm a big LeBron guy, you know, a young guy.
09:32That's who I grew up on.
09:33Yeah, so I'm hoping for another LeBron championship.
09:37So they got the Knicks tonight in the garden.
09:40I'm going to check them out.
09:42Ring night, man.
09:43It should be electric, no doubt.
09:45Hey, man, appreciate you on your off day, Jahan, as always.
09:48Hey, man, let's start fast on Wednesday.
09:50Let's get a good practice and let's get after these 49ers, man.
09:53Appreciate you, brother.
09:54Absolutely appreciate you guys.
09:55No doubt.
09:56Jahan Dotson, guys, and he'll be joining us frequently here on the show
09:59throughout the course of the season, Mike, but isn't that funny?
10:02Like, that's a story, you know, he's saying basically last week,
10:06first message out of coach's mouth, and we don't do it.
10:09Well, and this is why, you know, as I said, I was on Penix's jock,
10:12as some would say, after the game.
10:13But then, you know, when I go back and I watch the game film,
10:16Xavier Watts, if you can't see, they're driving down the field,
10:18and I'm not trying to put it on him, but, I mean,
10:20there's a play that has to be made.
10:22You know, you've got to hold on to that interception.
10:25The interception hits you between the numbers, guys.
10:27Go back and look at it.
10:28And I know the defender was trying to get his hand in there,
10:30but wrap that sucker up, and now we're in business.
10:34And now they've got, whoa, their defense is bad.
10:36Here we go.
10:37That changes everything, and there could have been a tie ball game at halftime.
10:40But, again, you can't overcome those two branch fumbles.
10:43That just killed you.
10:44It did.
10:44Those were big moments in that game, man.
