00:00where are you playing him?
00:01Because he does bring versatility.
00:03And I don't think you stick him in a spot just to say,
00:06hey, this is where he's played.
00:07You want to put him in the best position to be successful.
00:10And Dabo's mentioning there, he calls more fumbles than anybody.
00:13Guys, contact, he's not afraid of contact.
00:15And Mike, he's always around the ball, stripping the ball,
00:18making plays around the ball.
00:19So those are good things, man.
00:21And to hear a coach like Dabo speak so highly,
00:23as I think anybody would,
00:25but the thing that I wanted to hear is he's his own guy.
00:27He said A.V.'s a different player than his brother,
00:30but he's his own dude.
00:31And I put this out earlier this weekend, man,
00:33when I said we're going to have to allow that to play out, Mike.
00:36Everybody right now is caught up in this story,
00:38which is a great story.
00:39Right.
00:40It's a great story.
00:41I mean, as I said on Twitter the other day,
00:42it's like, I mean, if and when he earns the right,
00:45you've got to earn it to get out there,
00:47be opposite his own brother, that's a hell of a story.
00:49Now, a couple guys hit us up saying, what about Billy Bowman?
00:51Now, Billy Bowman's coming off an Achilles injury,
00:53but this is in no way like they're throwing Billy Bowman out
00:55with the bathwater.
00:55They love his game.
00:56He's a rock star.
00:57But Billy Bowman's going to be battling.
00:59Now, eventually, I think Avion Troll slides in as the heir apparent to Mike Hughes.
01:03Okay.
01:04And Bowman continues to play that hybrid where he can just kind of just bird dog.
01:07You're in the nickel so much anyway.
01:08It's a good fit.
01:09As I said, combined with what you have with Xavier Watts and Jesse Bates,
01:13a number of NFL personnel guys looked at this pick and said,
01:15if that falls the way, we think it will.
01:17It's one of the best secondaries in the league.
01:18I don't disagree.
01:19I don't disagree.
01:20Look, I didn't think it was a necessity going into this draft
01:25with what we already currently have.
01:27But you just made it stronger.
01:29Right.
01:29And if you buy into, there's two theories in the NFL.
01:33One is we have such good cover guys that it's going to improve everything else on our football team
01:39because our guys can run and cover with anybody.
01:42The other, obviously, adage is, Mike, we're just going to get after the quarterback,
01:46and we're not going to allow our guys to have to cover as long,
01:48and we're just going to get after you up front.
01:50Either way, we've got to get better at the run.
01:52And so the answer in this particular draft, I don't know if that's been answered, Mike.
01:57When you go corner and you go wide receiver, then you go linebacker,
02:00who may or may not be on the field to start the season.
02:03Those are your first three picks.
02:04I'm not sure if we addressed our run-stop defense, which was 24th in the league last year.
02:09Well, that's it.
02:09I mean, Deshaun Hand has played 75 games since 2018.
02:12If you're looking at the depth chart for the Falcons,
02:14we talked about the trade moving Ruka Roro road to Jacksonville
02:17and basically taking a guy that went right there in the same period of the draft
02:20a little bit behind him with Mason Smith with two A's.
02:23So we still don't really have the guy now.
02:26And Terry O'Topsin, as we said, played at four different colleges,
02:29and they like his upside.
02:30He's described as raw.
02:32Thought we'd address, you know, again, then find Zachariah Branches there in the third round,
02:36so we don't go after Dominique Orange, who we talked about with Dave Archer,
02:39big-time space grabber, run-stopper for Iowa State.
02:42So, I mean, technically, you still don't have a great rotation at nose tackle
02:46or defensive tackle.
02:47You don't.
02:48That was my concern going in, and maybe they feel comfortable with it.
02:52Or they're going to get something more.
02:53They'll get more out of Mason Smith.
02:54Now, Mason Smith was looking at two better players on the depth chart in Jacksonville.
02:56Maybe he succeeds here.
02:57No doubt about it.
02:58Here's Dabo Sweeney talking about the character.
03:00This is about the makeup of Avion Terrell.
03:03Yeah, he's a great teammate.
03:05I mean, that's one of the things I love about him the most is, you know,
03:09not everybody loves to practice.
03:11I mean, you know, a lot of times people, they do what they got to do
03:15to get to the end result.
03:17But A.V. loves to practice.
03:20He loves ball.
03:21It don't matter if it's a summer workout or if you're getting ready for a championship game.
03:29That guy likes to compete, and that's just who he is.
03:32He hates to miss a practice.
03:35He loves to play.
03:37And so, you know, that's who he is.
03:39I mean, he loves to study the game.
03:41He loves to study the opponent.
03:43You know, and that to me is something that not everybody, you know,
03:48that can take a while for somebody to really grasp onto that.
03:51But A.V. is one of those guys that's always studying the game.
03:54And, again, he's been like a pro since he showed up at Clemson.
04:00And, again, that's how he's been raised.
04:02That's what he's been around as far as how he trains, how he takes care of his body,
04:06you know, all that stuff.
04:08But his competitive spirit, like this guy's a fighter, man.
04:12I mean, he will fight you and claw your eyeballs out to try to win the rep.
04:17And he hates to get beat.
04:19So, you know, a lot of confidence.
04:22But he's not a cocky kid or anything like that.
04:26He carries himself with a great, humble spirit.
04:28And I think that comes from his mom and dad who are amazing people.
04:32But just a high-level competitor that, again, as a player, he's got ball skills,
04:39he's got coverage ability, and he's a tackler.
04:43Or, you know, I don't see many corners that like to tackle like this guy.
04:47He can blitz.
04:48He made some big plays for us coming off the edge as well.
04:51But he's a turnover machine.
04:53And that's been who he's been his whole career.
04:56And I don't see any reason why that will continue.
04:58He's a heavy-handed guy on the ball.
05:01That interview took place on Friday night.
05:04Friday night because Thursday was the first round.
05:06I said Saturday.
05:07And Andy and Joe, that's Andy Bunker and Joe Patrick,
05:09had a chance to catch up with Coach Dabo Sweeney.
05:11I'll say this about Dabo.
05:12And this is a side note.
05:13It has nothing to do with anything he's talking about with Avion Terrell
05:15because I love hearing all that.
05:18That's what I want in a player.
05:20Those qualities, characteristics, the makeup, Mike,
05:23those are the things that I talk about when we talk about overlooking things.
05:28What am I getting?
05:29What kind of person are you?
05:31Are you going to show up every day?
05:33Like all those things he said.
05:35But I got to say this, Mike.
05:36Clemson put nine dudes in the NFL, man.
05:38They underachieved.
05:39They did.
05:40Nine dudes in the NFL.
05:42Clemson and Miami and Texas Tech.
05:45Ohio State.
05:46Ohio State led everybody with 11.
05:48But Clemson put nine dudes in the league.
05:50They underachieved last year.
05:51He's got bad coaches.
05:52He's never replaced Venables.
05:53He's never replaced the great coaches that they used to have when they went on
05:56those national championship runs.
05:58Clemson, I've seen, I've watched enough Clemson, Florida State over the years.
06:00They make really dumb in-game decisions.
06:02And Klubnik was not that great, and they kept running him out there.
06:05He was an average quarterback.
06:07There was nothing special about him.
06:09And from Sunshine, from Trevor Lawrence to, you know, to, remember we had guys, you
06:15understand, this next quarterback, he'll be even better than Trevor.
06:17No, he wasn't.
06:17Okay?
06:18And that's been the issue.
06:19Klubnik was just average.
06:20There was nothing special about him.
06:22And they needed that electrifying piece.
06:24They got great players in all the other spots.
06:27Wide receiver, defense, back.
06:28They do.
06:28D-line as well.
06:29Yeah, it's interesting.
06:31Look, we're talking about our first pick, and we're trying to give you more information
06:34on him.
06:35It's more than just, he's the brother of AJ.
06:39Right?
06:39What is he?
06:40What are we getting?
06:41What kind of player is he?
06:42So, those are the things we're examining on this Monday as we come out of the draft.
06:46Let me hear A.V. talk about his experience, or at least his relationship with his brother.
06:52Oh, yeah.
06:53Me and AJ are very close.
06:55Talk every day.
06:56Very close.
06:57That's my dog, my best friend, and I love him to death.
07:03Our relationship, we talk about our games.
07:07Like, when I was in college, he'd tell me what I need to work on, I'd tell him what he
07:09need to work on.
07:10That's our type of relationship, for sure.
07:13I love it.
07:14We both said it in stereo.
07:15I do.
07:16I do.
07:16I guess, bro, man, Westlake High School, Westlake, Sound Off, and then Clemson.
07:19And it's going to be, like I said, if and when, and hopefully he does earn that right sooner
07:23than later, to have two brothers opposite each other in the NFL.
07:26I mean, in a really good secondary.
07:28I mean, we've got a great secondary right now.
07:30No doubt, man.
07:31But do we have enough up front?
07:32That's the thing.
07:33It really is, Mike.
07:34That's my question for Coach Ulbrich and everybody on the defensive staff.
07:37Coach Ollie, look, he did a great job last year.
07:40That's our D-line coach.
07:41Mad respect.
07:42Mike, he makes guys better.
07:44I had heard this before he got here.
07:46And so, let's hope that's the case as the Falcons get ready to really start the offseason
07:50now, guys, as the draft is behind us.
07:51Meanwhile, we will dive into the Hawks coming up.
07:55But the Braves off day today, they beat the Phillies.
07:58You were at the game yesterday.
07:59Chris Sale is just a dog.
08:01Right.
08:02I mean, guys, this dude is...
