00:00Our next guest, one of the biggest trailer fans out there, Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift.
00:08Apparently, Travis Kelsey likes Shane Gillis' controversial SNL monologue video on social media.
00:16Oh, I did see that.
00:17I saw people pulling up some really problematic Travis Kelsey tweets from when he was back at Cincinnati as well.
00:21It's going to be a real tough one for her to defend.
00:23Why?
00:23So he just liked it, or did he retweet it?
00:25Did he comment on it?
00:26What did he do?
00:26He just says likes.
00:27That's all.
00:28He just liked the video.
00:28Somebody else, and they were bringing it up just because Travis was doing that, and that just seems unnecessary, man.
00:33It does seem unnecessary.
00:33It seems unnecessary.
00:34But we are going to bring it up because she's joining us now.
00:36Ashley Bastock, one of the biggest Taylor Swift fans, a real Swifty, incredible NFL reporter as well, by the way.
00:43Cleveland.com and the Orange and Brown Talk podcast.
00:45And the Y's aren't right.
00:47We make it right.
00:47Call Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:49She joins us every single Wednesday.
00:51Ooh, this is a tough one.
00:52Ashley, are you going to have to stop being a Taylor Swift fan because of Travis Kelsey's problematic social media
01:00usage?
01:02No, I think I'm in too deep right now.
01:05And honestly, I didn't see the tweets.
01:07I know every once in a while people dig up the tweet of Travis talking about a squirrel eating some
01:13bread, and he spells squirrel wrong.
01:16So there are some, you know, heavy hitters in the Travis Kelsey old tweets museum.
01:22But, no, I didn't see anything from this weekend.
01:24So, yeah, I don't know.
01:26That's, I will say the worst thing about the monologue, me, was that I didn't really think it was that
01:30funny.
01:31But, you know, what are you going to do?
01:33It's comedy.
01:34Let me just tell you, that is one of my favorite takes that anyone said.
01:39I don't really care.
01:40Like, there's a lot you can say if it's funny.
01:43Shane Gillis looked like he was working, workshopping stuff at the Chuckle Hut in Boise.
01:49You know, Hacks is one of my favorite shows.
01:51And the series Hacks starts with, you know, basically the main character, Deborah Vance, tells her you got fired not
01:59because what you said was offensive.
02:00You got fired because the joke wasn't funny.
02:02And that's kind of how I live my life.
02:04So I get it.
02:05Yeah, Travis was not really funny in any of the previous tweets that he had either.
02:08It was a lot of positing.
02:11It was 2012.
02:12It was a lot of positing.
02:13Do the Clippers cheerleaders, do they cheerlead for the Clippers because they're too ugly to cheerlead for the Lakers?
02:20That was one of them.
02:20Oh, no.
02:21Things like that.
02:22I thought that was from Shane Gillis' monologue this weekend.
02:26It's all the same lane, is it not?
02:28It's all the same lane.
02:29That makes sense.
02:30Unless Shane did it just because he knew that it would get a lot of housewives across the country to
02:34send them photos of them in their gym outfit to be like,
02:37hey, we can wear whatever we want.
02:40And then there you go, Shane.
02:42Maybe.
02:43Who knows?
02:44It could all.
02:44I don't know.
02:45People are talking about it.
02:46People are talking about it.
02:47So what's the old saying?
02:49No publicity is bad publicity, right?
02:52You know, let me just tell you, Ashley.
02:53As somebody who might have had reason to understand scrutiny on social media recently,
03:00I got to tell you, I think there is such thing as a bad PR, Ashley.
03:05Okay.
03:05Okay.
03:06I hear you, Nick.
03:07We can have a therapy session about that off mic sometime if you'd like.
03:11I did genuinely think about that angle on it.
03:13I was like, this might end up working out all right for Nick.
03:16This is like all PR is good PR.
03:18And then I settled on the idea that no, no, it didn't.
03:20No, that PR sucked and I don't care for it.
03:22I would rather no PR than that PR.
03:24All right, let's get to some injury news here.
03:28Cause this is what I'm most excited about in this game.
03:30Other than it's a Ravens game, Swessinger, Graham, Judkins.
03:35These are the three names I'm most worried about.
03:37Who do you think is likely to play this Sunday?
03:39And who do you think isn't?
03:41Yeah.
03:42You know what?
03:42I think Mason Graham, the way we were hearing things last week, I do wonder if he's going
03:49to be ready.
03:50Cause it seems like he's fighting really hard.
03:52Uh, and actually Carson too, because he, you know, last year had that high ankle sprain
03:59that he suffered going against new England and then fought through the bi-week and high
04:05ankle sprain is something that can keep some guys out for six weeks.
04:07And he was back out on the field, uh, the following week for ironically, when they played
04:12the jets last year.
04:13So I know he's a guy that they're really gonna, gonna fight, but I mean, it's, it is
04:18concerning that none of them were practicing today.
04:22Right.
04:22So that's what is, I think the biggest question and yeah, when Sean Judkins tweaking that ankle
04:30that he had the surgery on being in the walking boot, that's concerning.
04:34So, I mean, I would say of the three though, I would think if I had to guess that Mason
04:41Graham would probably have the best chance just because his injury happened.
04:44And we're going on, it's not even going to be two full weeks.
04:47It's going to be a little extra because it happened in a Thursday night game.
04:50So we'll see how the rest of the week plays out though.
04:52But yeah, none of those guys out at a practice today.
04:56And along with, I mean, Malik Collins didn't practice today as well with the foot.
05:00So I think there's some concerns right now on the front of that defense about who's actually
05:04going to be healthy in this game.
05:06Would you rather take on a 75% Lamar Jackson or a now confident Tyler Huntley?
05:12Ooh, 75% Lamar or a confident Tyler Huntley.
05:17You know, I'm going to say Lamar and like, I mean, it's about, you want this game to be
05:23like the best version, right?
05:24Like you want these teams to be the best versions of themselves when you play them or at least
05:29close to it.
05:30And I think that for this Browns team, a really good litmus test is going to be, what does
05:36this look like against Lamar?
05:37And so much of this defense, it's going to be predicated upon how healthy they are.
05:42But for years, we've kind of talked about, they've been built to specifically sort of
05:47counter what the Ravens do.
05:49And I think a lot of that has come with the linebackers.
05:52A lot of that has come on the D line, but you know, I'm curious more than anything to
05:55see what this looks like going up against Lamar Jackson without Miles Garrett, because
06:00we know Miles was one of those rare D ends with his size could move the way he could that
06:05made life really difficult for Lamar.
06:07But I mean, I think there are other key pieces on this defense that they are pretty well positioned
06:12to stop him.
06:14Ashley, Deshaun Watson today was asked about the Browns, how much they play out of the
06:19shotgun, his preference kind of all ties back to some of the struggles in the run game there.
06:25And I thought his answer, which was, I don't have a preference.
06:28I found myself not believing him mostly because I feel like we're with a coach and Todd Munkin
06:36that the reason he's going back to shotgun is he looked for four years.
06:40We didn't do a lot of shotgun or nearly enough shotgun.
06:42And the time where Deshaun's been the best version, Clemson, Houston, they've done mostly
06:48out of shotgun.
06:49Am I looking too much into this?
06:51I'm just curious why Deshaun kind of downplayed that.
06:54I think he's got a preference.
06:56Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
06:58I think like it's, it's one of those things where as a quarterback, like my, my read on
07:03it is always a lot of times quarterbacks, like you don't want to look like you're questioning
07:07the play calling or anything like that in public, even though like they are running more shotgun
07:13and he's historically been good in that.
07:15You'd think, oh, it's a good thing.
07:16Why would he be worried about that?
07:17I guess it's like an element of, hey, you don't want to reveal too much about yourself.
07:21Or look like even in the future, if there would be a situation where if Todd Munkin changes
07:26something, like, does that mean Deshaun's unhappy?
07:28Is he questioning it?
07:30Et cetera.
07:30Like, I think that's just kind of my read on it.
07:33So maybe like my answer is, yeah, maybe reading a little bit too much into it.
07:36And it might just kind of be semantics.
07:38I think too, there are phases that we in the media get like sort of obsessed with this
07:42stuff.
07:43And I think guys don't really want to answer and reveal too much.
07:48So that was kind of my read on it more than than anything.
07:51I didn't take too much of it into account necessarily.
07:56Did you have any problem with Shador Sanders hiring an agent?
08:00And did you read into that at all in the slightest bit about maybe not for this season,
08:04but what the future and what that means for the future of Shador?
08:07You know, I don't know.
08:08I mean, it is interesting because obviously he hasn't had one before.
08:12Right.
08:12And look, I think it's like kind of, it makes me wonder.
08:17It has made me wonder.
08:18Like when he went through the draft process, if he did have an agent and someone that knows
08:22all the ins and outs of this stuff that, hey, even if your dad's a hall of famer, right?
08:27Like you just don't have that sort of agent knowledge, right?
08:31I mean, only that group of people really has that, understands how certain things work,
08:35understands how to prep for the draft and the meetings and everything that goes into that.
08:40So, yeah, I don't know.
08:42I didn't necessarily read anything into it immediately, but it is interesting just knowing,
08:47hey, it's a guy who didn't have one and, you know, went through this very important process
08:51without one.
08:52You kind of look at how it played out.
08:54You look at other situations of Diego Pavia didn't have an agent, right?
08:58That obviously didn't work out.
09:00So is it just something of, hey, we're going to try something different and see what happens?
09:04You know, it's hard to know right now for me.
09:07Ashley, is Todd Munkin's Ravens relationship, his history, is that a help or hindrance for this week?
09:15It, to me, is kind of like a wash almost a little bit, right?
09:19Because he's obviously very familiar with the personnel.
09:22The flip side of that is the Ravens personnel is very familiar with him.
09:26That defense, those defenders that are still there, I'm sure they know some Todd Munkin tendencies
09:33and how he calls plays, how he's designed this offense.
09:37I'm sure there are things they recognize.
09:39And for Todd Munkin, the same thing.
09:42I mean, he spent years coaching Lamar Jackson and Stu Puntley, too.
09:46You know, he's been in Baltimore.
09:48Derrick Henry, like he has this inside knowledge of these players.
09:52But remember, obviously, the Ravens coaching staff has changed.
09:56So there's that element.
09:58But I will say, like, the flip side is for as much knowledge as he has about them,
10:02the Ravens defense has about him.
10:04So for me, it kind of becomes a little bit of a wash, but it'll be a fascinating matchup
10:09to see for those reasons, obviously.
10:12If it's Lamar going, would beating Baltimore be more impressive than the entire three-game
10:16winning streak?
10:18Would beating Baltimore be more impressive than the entire three-game winning streak?
10:23I mean, I think, I don't know, like that three-game winning streak was very much a high
10:27point in the sense of, number one, you got a division win.
10:30You beat Tampa after that crazy rain delay, right?
10:33The Panthers obviously look like they're a pretty good team.
10:36But getting a win over the Ravens is always such a huge deal because it's a division.
10:40It's the Ravens.
10:41Obviously, the history between these two franchises for a lot of Browns fans.
10:46So I think for a lot of Browns fans, it's very, very meaningful, right?
10:51And it might be more meaningful than that three-game win streak was.
10:54But in terms of, like, the standings, I think it obviously has a huge impact.
10:59These division games count for two.
11:00But they have one of those in the win streak as well.
11:02So I would say maybe equal, maybe lesser, just because we're talking about number of wins.
11:07All right.
11:08We know you're not just an incredible Browns beat reporter here, a great podcast host in
11:13the Orange and Brown Talk podcast.
11:15You are Cleveland till you die.
11:18Where is your guard's confidence after the first two games of the ALCS?
11:22Oh, you know what?
11:23I kind of left the ALDS and watching game five thinking, like, man, maybe this team is peeping
11:30at the right time.
11:31And, like, they're not getting any love nationally.
11:34And, I mean, that feels like a very comfortable place for Cleveland to be.
11:38So, I mean, I certainly am still feeling overall positive, even though yesterday obviously was a loss.
11:45But I do still wonder if there's something about this team where they're peaking at the
11:51right time as opposed to, you know, other Guardians teams in recent years that have peaked earlier
11:55in the regular season and then just kind of fizzled out.
11:58So, I still have positivity about this series right now.
12:02All right, Ashley.
12:04It's interesting.
12:04You know, we talked earlier in the show about Jose Ramirez and whether or not he's above
12:08criticism now at this point because of what he did in the first, the previous four games
12:12leading into last night.
12:13Had the big error.
12:14Do you think now Jose's hit a spot where he's above criticism?
12:18Ooh, the error was, like, I mean, kind of a big deal, right?
12:21So, I don't think that he's above criticism.
12:24But I do think when you do what he's done and, you know, he found his bat at a moment
12:29where
12:29they obviously, you need your star player to do that at this time of year.
12:35You're able to kind of shake off that criticism more easily, sooner, quicker, however you
12:40want to say it.
12:41So, that's kind of how I feel about it.
12:43You got to have that goldfish memory.
12:45And I think fans will have that sort of goldfish memory with him a little bit.
12:49I mean, next time, all it's going to take is one big swing.
12:52Ashley, great stuff as always.
12:54We appreciate you.
12:56And sorry about your pal, Travis.
12:58Again, like, you know, it's tough to be canceled and all that.
13:01But I think this means Taylor's also canceled.
13:03And I, yeah, it's just the end of the road there.
13:06Nick, Taylor has a song about being canceled that I think you should check out.
13:10It might really help you.
13:11Now, why do you say that?
13:12Yeah, was there a reason?
13:13Is there, like, a specific thing you're calling back to?
13:15Why do you say that one, Ashley?
13:16You were just talking about it.
13:18Well, I got that goldfish memory, Ashley.
13:21I know.
13:22Yeah, you really are.
13:23You guys are good at that.
13:24Yeah, well, it's just, I just don't open Twitter and I'm okay.
13:27Ashley, be good.
13:27Yeah, don't read the mentions.
13:28Don't read the mentions.
13:29Be good, guys.
13:30They're awful, those Macs.
13:32They're pretty okay recently here.
13:33But this weekend, it was not great.
13:35But this weekend, it was not great.
13:35But this weekend, it was not great.
