00:00The conversation nationally continues about the ending of the Washington Commanders game this past weekend.
00:08It's not just nationally. It's everywhere. Obviously, locally.
00:11You can't go in a parking lot. You can't go anywhere without overhearing people talking.
00:17You go in the break room, you have salespeople talking about it.
00:18I wouldn't be shocked if it was international at this point.
00:21It was such a huge botch.
00:23People are just so perplexed, including myself, to be honest with you.
00:27It's very confusing.
00:28Talk of the league.
00:30Well, Micah Parsons, who played with the Cowboys, now with the Packers, still hasn't played this season.
00:36He's recovering from an injury last year, a knee injury.
00:40I didn't realize that.
00:41He's got a podcast called The Edge with Micah Parsons.
00:44Here's what he said about the end-of-game situation with Jaden Daniels.
00:52Jaden Daniels probably cost my man Dan quitting his job, to be honest with you.
00:56That's tough.
00:58To be honest with you.
00:59And, like, I'm a big Jaden Daniels fan.
01:01But the reality is, like, he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.
01:06So you put none of that on the coaches here?
01:09Hey, bro.
01:10And all respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations that, like, I'm a defensive player.
01:19And this s*** is programmed in me.
01:21I know what to do in those situations.
01:23100%.
01:24There's no way I'm taking a sack with 14 seconds of no timeouts.
01:28Like, and then, like, this is just, and mind you, it would be different if Jaden Daniels was a rookie.
01:34This is your third year.
01:36This is your third year.
01:37You've been to the NFC Championship game.
01:39You've been in big moments before.
01:41And to me, like, even after a sack, you're casually getting up.
01:46That was the thing that frustrated me the most.
01:47I'm like, you just took a sack with 14.
01:50Like, look at the play.
01:52Like, I'm not mad what you did.
01:53Cool.
01:54Do it.
01:54But look, like, he's not even urgently getting up.
01:58Because they play on Monday night, we're not going to hear from Jaden until Thursday.
02:03Typical week, right?
02:04I think you would hear from him beforehand.
02:07And so he's going to have all the time to think about the answers.
02:11But I hope somebody does ask him, and he's not going to say yes about the second overtime possibility.
02:17Because profootballtalk.com had something, and John was kind of scoffing at it.
02:22And I don't think it's likely.
02:24But Giant safety Javon Holland, after the game, said that there was a second or two where he thought the
02:32game was going to a second overtime.
02:34He said, I don't know if it was two overtimes or not.
02:36I've never been in an overtime tie like this.
02:39I don't understand.
02:39There are NFL players that do not know the rules.
02:42It shocks me.
02:43It's a basic rule.
02:45And I understand we know it because we watch and digest a lot of NFL content.
02:50These guys are living it.
02:52They're playing it every week.
02:53For them not to know the rules is mind-blowing.
02:57They don't watch as much football as we do.
02:59It doesn't matter.
03:00I'm in 100 dumb fantasy leagues.
03:03The first thing I do before I draft one player, I look at the rules and the settings.
03:08For a dumb fantasy league, that means nothing.
03:11This is these guys' livelihoods.
03:13I think he's not the only one.
03:14I think there's a percentage of guys, I don't know what it is, 10% or something.
03:17It's probably a very small percentage.
03:19I think it's a non-zero chance, but I don't think it's likely.
03:21I think it's very unlikely.
03:23But I can't put it at zero.
03:25But where Micah Parsons is wrong is, yes, this might have been a fireable offense in the last draw.
03:32You've got to look at the record.
03:34In the end, coaches get fired because they're not leading their teams to wins.
03:41And over the last year, Dan Quinn has not led his team to enough wins.
03:46They should have won the game.
03:48Understood.
03:48But if they were 9-8 in their last 17 or whatever, that wouldn't be a tipping point.
03:55Yeah.
03:55I mean, the only...
03:57I agree with him.
03:58In a sense, it's a tipping point.
03:59The only thing I'll give him is that he hasn't had his stud quarterback for a lot of those
04:03games, a lot of those losses.
04:05Yeah.
04:06Well, it's going to take...
04:07And I know that doesn't matter to a lot of people, but...
04:09But here's the thing for Micah.
04:10It certainly is a factor.
04:11I can't argue it.
04:12It's a tipping point.
04:12And Jaden, big time, royally screwed up.
04:16Jaden's the only guy that could probably save his job.
04:19Because...
04:19You know, so...
04:20Right.
04:21He may be the deciding factor in why Dan ultimately gets whacked.
04:25And I think...
04:26I mean, you're hired to be fired.
04:27It's only a matter of time when, but for this season, eventually being fired, he could
04:33save him if they go on a ridiculous run.
04:36It could happen.
04:37It's unlikely, but...
04:38It's unlikely, and I wouldn't bet on it.
04:40But the only way it ever possibly happens is if five leads him on a run.
04:45It's the only shot they have to save the season and save Dan Quinn's job.
04:48So he may have cost them his job, you know, ultimately with a tipping point type of loss
04:52like that.
04:53It's a national embarrassment.
04:54You're on the back.
04:55You saw it in the New York Post, right?
04:56Sure.
04:57It's like a picture of Dan Quinn as a dumb and dumber or something.
04:59I mean, everyone's just ridiculing and mocking the skins.
05:03Rightfully so.
05:05Yeah.
05:05I'm not arguing with it.
05:07They deserve it.
05:07Now, I'm a little bit with Micah, and we had a split in the room, including the boys
05:11behind the glass.
05:12I think it falls more on Jaden Daniel's shoulders than the coaching staff.
05:17Because I do think the coaches go through it a million times, as Micah Parsons said, in training
05:24camp, throughout the season.
05:27These guys should know what's going on.
05:29Also, we've heard that they were reminded there were no timeouts.
05:33I just think the quarterback has to have more awareness.
05:36But to Micah's largest point, I would say Dan Quinn is costing himself his job.
05:42Grant Paulson put out a tweet a few days ago.
05:45So, over the last 17 games, they're 3-13-1.
05:49We know that.
05:49They're two wins.
05:52One of them is against the Philadelphia Eagles when they were playing all backups in week
05:5718.
05:58And then eight of their 13 losses.
06:01Eight out of 13 are by double digits.
06:03So, not even keeping these games close, seven of the losses are by 17+.
06:12Are you trying to find people in this room that are going to defend Dan Quinn?
06:16Because if you are, you're fishing with no bait on your hook.
06:21It's not going to happen.
06:22Well, isn't that the point of what we're playing the Micah Parsons audio of?
06:25Parsons also, it's hard.
06:27He's very biased.
06:28He's very pro Dan Quinn.
06:31But a lot of players do feel that way.
06:35Mind you, I agree it was a tipping point.
06:36And Jaden, major league screwed up.
06:39Players and former players.
06:40I think the coaching staff did too.
06:42Dan Quinn screwed up too by not showing any urgency leading up to the last minute or so
06:47of the game.
06:48Some of it falls on Dan Quinn and the coaching staff.
06:51I feel like it's unfair to put a lot of it on Jaden.
06:54Like we said yesterday, a billion times, the decision to run that play falls on the coaching
06:59staff.
06:59Ultimately, Dan Quinn.
07:01After the ball is snapped, it falls on Jaden Daniels.
07:03Also, Jaden, before, the lack of urgency by all 11 guys, and Jaden's the leader of it,
07:08so he should take the brunt.
07:09The lack of urgency in the last 55 seconds, it's just stunning.
07:13It's incomprehensible.
07:14Then we're three days later and you still can't understand it.
07:18It's crazy.
07:19If they had executed that last play, if you watched the all 22, Chig was open, which would
07:25have been a touchdown.
07:26Oh, could you imagine a Chig touchdown to save the day?
07:29How much better that would have been?
07:30For the team, for us, for the fans.
07:33And I disagree.
07:34Like, I listen to Kime and I love Kime and Bram and those guys, they were doing their
07:39pod yesterday.
07:41And John said it was 0% had to do with lack of faith in the kicker.
07:45I do think that that factored in a little bit.
07:47Their kicker missed three.
07:48Our kickers missed a couple extra points, including one on Sunday.
07:51I think if they had had full confidence in the kicker, they just would have spiked it
07:55and kicked it right there and we wouldn't have worried about any of the time stuff or
07:58they just would have stood there, watched the clock go down as much as you want, just
08:01in case something weird happens.
08:01They didn't want a 43-yarder, they wanted a 38-yarder.
08:04They were trying to get more yardage.
08:05I know.
08:05Why?
08:06Because a 38-yarder is easier than a 42-yarder.
08:09That's the only reason.
08:09So you can't say it's a non-zero lack of faith in the kicker.
08:12But it should be negligible.
08:13A five-yard difference in that range?
08:16I agree.
08:16If you're talking 55-60, okay, that's different.
08:2038-43?
08:21Well, yeah.
08:22Remember, 40-45?
08:23Right, but he missed the extra point, which is shorter than that.
08:26It's not a distancing.
08:27Obviously, the guy's got the leg to kick at 70 yards.
08:29It's just, you're more accurate the closer you are by every yard.
08:32And there's pressure.
08:33I mean, there's pressure in overtime for a rookie.
08:35In every sport, you're more accurate the closer.
08:37Can't they just lose in a normal fashion?
08:39That wasn't even a loss at the time.
08:40Well, their normal fashion is they lose pretty convincingly.
08:44You know what?
08:44That's preferable to being a laughingstock.
08:47Yeah.
08:49It's getting joned on worldwide for a horrible decision at the end of the game.
08:53Both teams botched that game, and the Giants get away so unscathed.
08:57You know, handing off the can when they didn't need to.
08:59They should have kicked it, too.
09:01They didn't kick it.
09:02Same reason.
09:02Same reason.
09:03They had a little bit of lack of faith in their kicker.
09:04Well, yeah.
09:05They wanted to go closer.
09:06You can't blame Harbaugh for that.
09:07But also, I don't blame either one for that.
09:10But in that situation.
09:11I wasn't convinced he was going to make it.
09:13In that situation, they really are trying to use clock.
09:15Because if there is a miss, they don't want Washington to have time.
09:18Right, but you don't think about a miss if you have so much compensated kicker.
09:21Right.
09:21If you have the Ravens kicker, if you have just a Tucker in his prime, you don't worry about that.
09:26If you have the Chiefs kicker, you don't worry about that.
09:29You go about bringing out the guy.
09:30What the Giants did was more by the book.
09:34Maybe.
09:35Especially given the fact that their kicker had missed three in the game.
09:38In my opinion, both butchered it.
09:40But of course, if you want to say they're worse, sure.
09:42Go for it.
09:43But the Bills did the same thing.
09:44We're talking about James Cook's fumbles.
09:46James Cook fumbled.
09:48I want to say on the 25-yard line, I'd have to double check.
09:51It was about that.
09:52But they were in field goal range.
09:55100%.
09:55And he fumbled.
09:56And then the Rams moved the ball down the field, and their field goal was blocked.
10:01And the Bills came back to win.
10:02You can understand, based on Drew Stevens missing that extra point from 33 yards.
10:07One is history.
10:08So far, it hasn't been great.
10:09It hasn't been great.
10:10He's a rookie.
10:10There's going to be pressure in overtime.
10:13And so, to get five or six yards closer, okay.
10:17I mean, just run the play quicker.
10:20It's also about trying to drain the clock for as much as possible.
10:25For sure.
10:26Because...
10:27But you can do that just spiking it.
10:28I know.
10:29But here's also why you just spike it.
10:32So, say you spike it.
10:35Let's say Stevens misses the kick.
10:36So, now, all of a sudden, the Giants have the ball on their own 35-yard line-ish.
10:42They only need 20 yards or whatever.
10:44And then you have 10 seconds left on the clock.
10:47You know, it could bite you in the ass, of course.
10:48So, it could end up biting you in the ass if you miss.
10:52100%.
10:52So, I can see why...
10:54You're draining the clock.
10:55Yeah, yeah.
10:55And then we've learned on the past two, three weeks that 10 seconds is a lot of time.
11:00100% time.
11:01I have zero problem with draining the clock.
11:03Zero.
11:04Zero.
11:04I have a problem with how they did it.
11:08Yeah.
11:09Their methodology was...
11:10Because they were draining and going for an extra six yards and running motion and taking
11:14an hour to get to the line of scrimmage.
11:16I mean, it's just...
11:17But most of that falls on the quarterback.
11:19Sure.
11:19I don't care.
11:20The quarterback could have rushed him to the line.
11:22There was no urgency from Jaden Daniels who has to know better.
11:25Agreed.
11:25Agreed.
11:25It's preposterous.
11:27I wouldn't have had a problem.
11:29Preposterous.
11:29That's why the coach was flabbergasted.
11:31That's why he...
11:31He couldn't believe what he saw.
11:33Of course.
11:33But he also...
11:34Listen.
11:35Blame Jade.
11:35Given the preponderance of the blame.
11:37He should have been ranting and screaming.
11:40Hurry up!
11:41Hurry up!
11:42Hurry up!
11:42All of them should have been.
11:44There's no sense of urgency from any of them.
11:46But Jaden's the number one guy there.
11:48Of course.
11:48I haven't seen the video of...
11:51Well, find it.
11:51...the sidelines...
11:53Find the video.
11:54...in the 10 seconds leading up to the play.
11:56Find the video.
11:57Because I don't think it exists.
11:59Probably not.
11:59They should have been all...
12:01The entire sideline should have been screaming.
12:04From probably about 40 seconds on.
12:06Hurry up!
12:06Why are you guys huddling up for an hour?
12:08I kind of like...
12:09I kind of like Cakes' idea.
12:11They're huddling up because Blau had to get the substitutions in for that last dumb play.
12:15I know.
12:15I know.
12:17You wouldn't have called it a dumb play if he actually threw it to Chig for a game-winning
12:21touchdown.
12:21You're right.
12:22But you know what he didn't do?
12:23Throw it to Chig for a game-winning touchdown.
12:25That was so poorly conceived that they do deserve to be the laughingstock.
12:29That said, I think that Micah Parsons, when he says that Jaden Daniels cost Dan Quinn his
12:35job, I can't really agree with it.
12:38I like your word tipping point, EB, but Dan Quinn is 3-13-1 in his last 17.
12:44That's not because of that last play.
12:47They're getting killed for the most part.
