00:01Oh, I feel like we should play celebration by cooling the gang.
00:05I got to ask chat GPT here.
00:07How many days since the Texans beat the Steelers in the NFL playoffs last year?
00:17Just so we know exactly how many days it's been Clint Sterner since you and I have done
00:21a winning postgame show.
00:22And I include the preseason for this season as well.
00:27Remember?
00:27Well, yeah.
00:28Now that you say it, I choose to not think about things like that at Pendergast.
00:32I'd drive myself nuts.
00:34But yeah.
00:36272 days.
00:37I'm a damn near year.
00:38It's been 272 long days since you and I have done a postgame show after a win.
00:45Man, this feels good.
00:46Yeah, yeah.
00:47It's a little odd.
00:47A little odd feeling.
00:48But boy, it feels good and it was much needed, brother.
00:51Absolutely.
00:52Yeah, they needed it mathematically.
00:54They needed it emotionally.
00:56I think the fan base needed it emotionally and psychologically.
00:59We just needed a game where the Texans walked off the field with more points than the opposition
01:05today.
01:06That's right.
01:06Style points didn't matter.
01:07Although I would argue that they had some style points today.
01:1026-3 the final score.
01:12In case you're just tuning in now and you missed the end of the game or you happen to miss
01:15the game.
01:15Whatever the case may be.
01:17The 26-3 the final score.
01:19The Houston Texans beat the Tennessee Titans today.
01:22Just outclassing them in every way.
01:23Titans came down, scored a field goal on their first drive and that was it.
01:26Texans shut them out the rest of the way.
01:28Forced a couple of turnovers.
01:30The injury, you know, the injury gods may not be smiling on a couple of Texans.
01:35I would guess we'll learn more maybe as we hear D'Amico Ryan's in the postgame show
01:39in just a little bit.
01:40But this was a nice one to have.
01:42A good all-around performance in all three phases.
01:45One we didn't have to sweat out too much.
01:48And it felt like D'Amico Ryan's taking over play-calling duties, albeit against one of
01:52the worst teams offensively in football.
01:54One for one so far on that.
01:56Well, look, I mean, it was definitely a get-right game.
01:59And boy, I don't know that anybody, any at least legit football team in the NFL needed
02:04it more than the Houston Texans.
02:07And you look at kind of how today's game went down, right?
02:11You're in a spot now, Sean, where to start the season it was, how do you stack up against
02:17the best of the best?
02:18All right?
02:19And now the way the first month of the season went, the mindset shifts to, okay, we've had
02:26some severe adversity the first month of the season.
02:29We've got to get right.
02:31This is no longer about what can we do in the playoffs and this and that.
02:34And what do we do against the best teams in the league?
02:37And what is next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars look like?
02:40Today's game was about, hey, can we get back to doing things the way that we typically
02:46do things, particularly on the defensive side of the football, but really it's team-wide,
02:49whether you're talking about the play caller or the defense themselves or on the offensive
02:54side of the football, continuing to sharpen your blade, if you will.
02:57So this was a much needed game.
02:59And I think the Texans, unfortunately we're in this position, I think the Texans, as an
03:05organization, can take a lot from this game today and hopefully build on it.
03:10Well, look, they did a lot right, but there's plenty of teachable moments from this game
03:13too.
03:13They were still committing way too many penalties.
03:16Nick Kelly's play calling is still very curious at times in this game.
03:19It's very predictable early in games.
03:21And then at the end of the game, he's leaving C.J.
03:23Stroud in there to throw the ball on third and long, up 26-3.
03:26And C.J. did not look happy when he came over to the sidelines.
03:29He didn't look like he wanted to listen to anything Kaylee was saying to him.
03:31And I can't say I blame him.
03:33I don't think he should have even been out there for that series of downs.
03:36But look, I don't want to lead in with the few red X's that I've got on my notes.
03:41There's plenty of green check marks on my notes.
03:44To me, the biggest takeaway, again, it's not on the defensive side of the ball with
03:48D'Amico calling the plays.
03:49It is C.J. Stroud again for me.
03:51C.J. Stroud looked in control out there.
03:53C.J. Stroud is dealing right now.
03:55He is throwing the football as well as we've seen him throw at any point in his NFL career.
04:00Look, the first half, you'd rather have a couple touchdowns mixed in than four field goals.
04:06But he still hasn't put a ball in harm's way yet this year that I can think of.
04:10And no turnovers, clean turnover sheet, in command, 6 of 12 on third down.
04:15When he was asked this week, you know, after that Cowboys game where, you know,
04:21D'Amico essentially absolved the offense of any blame in that game by just saying,
04:24hey, they scored 30 points even though they couldn't run the football.
04:27C.J. listed a few things he wanted to do better.
04:31And third down was one of them that he hit multiple times.
04:33They were 6 of 12 on third down today.
04:35So, they moved the chains.
04:36C.J. Stroud is playing excellent football.
04:38And we will certainly talk about this Marvin Harrison Jr.
04:41Strong rumor, we'll call it right now, until it's an actual trade.
04:44We can't call it a trade.
04:46But what does that mean for how this team is viewing this offense this season?
04:50That they're even looking at wide receivers as a possible trade possibility?
04:54We'll talk about all that.
04:55But that, for me, Clint, that's the biggest thing is C.J. Stroud was outstanding again today.
04:59Again, once again today.
05:01And the sample size is what's important here.
05:04We're five games into the season.
05:06Yes, his team is one and four.
05:07So, the stat that matters is not ideal.
05:10But when you look at C.J. Stroud through five games this season,
05:15I mean, what, Brock Purdy may be the only quarterback in the NFL
05:17that you would say is playing better because his team's winning
05:21and more guys around him are having success.
05:23But the reality of it is C.J. is playing the quarterback position.
05:26Not only, Sean, the way the organization wants him
05:30and asks him to play the position,
05:32but he's playing it lights out across the board in every facet.
05:36You just said, I don't think he's put a ball in harm's way.
05:40Well, look, I don't get into the advanced stats and all that stuff,
05:43but I do appreciate the graphics that are built around quarterbacks
05:46in the NFL this time of year.
05:48I don't really care for them week one and week two,
05:50but when we get five weeks into the season and the graphics,
05:54one was exactly what you were talking about, I saw it.
05:57Quarterback, well, turnover-worthy pass attempts by quarterbacks.
06:01C.J. was 0-0.
06:02Yeah, he has pro football focus, I think, at that.
06:05He has not had one.
06:06You look at the tight window throws.
06:07He's leading in tight window throws.
06:09You look at the explosive plays.
06:10Somehow this offense leads the league in explosive plays.
06:13In 20-plus yard plays.
06:14I mean, what he's been able to do,
06:16and it's one thing to say that statistically about a quarterback.
06:20It's another thing to watch the film and understand what C.J. is working with,
06:25and that's still the result.
06:26It's unbelievable what C.J. Stroud is doing,
06:29and today is just another game in that sample size that makes it more believable.
06:32Yep, yep.
06:32He's just in control out there.
06:34They had a design run for him to get the first touchdown,
06:37so he had two touchdowns today.
06:38He was involved in both of them, and they were both great plays.
06:41The design run for him where he, you know, it wasn't blocked great,
06:44but he was patient and then was able to put his shoulder down,
06:47his non-throwing shoulder,
06:49and kind of bury it into the defender.
06:51And then the touchdown throw to Jalen Knoll was just, I mean,
06:56there's not a lot of guys.
06:57Yeah, it's just the precision rolling away from his arm,
07:00rolling to his left, and buying time and finding Knoll,
07:03and Knoll finding a place to get open for him.
07:06Just a lot of encouraging things, I thought, offensively.
07:08They didn't run the ball great, and it gets very interesting now
07:12because David Montgomery left the game with a groin injury in the first half.
07:17I personally feel like the way this thing's being blocked right now
07:20that Woody Marks makes more sense to lean into than David Montgomery
07:24for whatever reason, whether it's actual hesitation or hesitation
07:28because the blocking isn't what it's supposed to be or it's, you know,
07:31I don't know what it is.
07:33I just know that I know statistically they're not drastically different
07:36of David Montgomery and Woody Marks this year
07:38in terms of what they're averaging per carry.
07:40I think Woody Marks just has more juice to him
07:42than David Montgomery right now.
07:44They might, and up until David Montgomery left the game today,
07:48you know, largely it had been at best equal,
07:51if not leaning towards David Montgomery.
07:53It could be a little like last year where Nick Haley is kind of forced
07:56to lean into Woody Marks getting 15 to 20 touches a game,
08:00which might not be the worst thing for this offense.
08:02Woody Marks might be better equipped physically to deal with that workload
08:07now than he was a year ago.
08:08Sean, I don't know if he's equipped or not because that's a heavy workload
08:12to put on a back, especially in a 17-game, 18-week season.
08:15But I've been saying it for two-plus weeks now.
08:17This offense is better with Woody Marks getting the bulk of the touches.
08:21And look, any way you slice it, there's better vision with Woody Marks,
08:26there's better decision-making with Woody Marks,
08:28and there is a significantly different burst with Woody Marks.
08:34Maybe that burst is a combination of all, the vision and the decision-making,
08:37and he doesn't, you know, he just sees it and hits it.
08:39But any way you slice it, this offensive line does not have to be perfect
08:43with Woody Marks behind it.
08:44This offensive line can create a crease, which, again,
08:48you don't have to be perfect to do it, and Woody Marks finds it more often
08:51than it appears David Montgomery finds it.
08:53So, look, both of those guys are great.
08:54I don't have a problem with the ball being in either one of them's hands.
08:57I don't have a problem with that being a one-two punch.
08:59But based on what we've seen this year, I think Woody Marks,
09:02the best thing for this football team, if you're making decisions
09:06for this football team, I believe that it's in the team's best interest
09:10to get Woody Marks more touches in the run game throughout a game
09:13than David Montgomery.
09:16Unfortunately, I hate to see it come via the penalty, I mean, the injury.
09:20I don't want to see that happen to anybody.
09:21Well, I do too, because I still think David Montgomery
09:23is the second-best running back on this team.
09:25Well, yeah, you're thinking beyond those two.
09:26Yeah, yeah, like that's the thing, is this isn't me saying, you know,
09:30get lost, David Montgomery.
09:31I hope he's okay.
09:33But it did force them into a situation in the second half of this football game
09:37where Woody Marks was getting all the touches, and I think you can just,
09:39like you said, you can see it with your own eyes.
09:42Like, Woody Marks just, there's something a little extra with the way he runs,
09:46and let's face it, from what we've seen the first five weeks,
09:50these running backs are going to be asked to create more yards through contact
09:53than most backs on other teams are this year.
09:56And I know David Montgomery's a really tough runner.
09:58For whatever reason, it just has looked different with Woody Marks out there.
10:02So we'll see.
10:03It's a groin injury for David Montgomery.
10:05The two injuries we're going to be keeping an eye on are David Montgomery
10:10with the groin injury, and then Jalen Petrie left with a shoulder injury.
10:14Looked like he was going back to the locker room after he left the game,
10:18I believe in the fourth quarter today.
10:20Going back to the locker room.
10:22I'm trying to read, you know, I'm trying to read, like, you know,
10:24body language and facial expressions and whatnot.
10:28Okay.
10:28We've got breaking news then.
10:30All right.
10:30Here we go.
10:31The trade has been made official.
10:34The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to trade wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
10:38and a 2027 seventh round pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for next year's,
10:45this coming year's draft, 2027 second round pick and a 2027 sixth round pick.
10:52So essentially the two teams swap a couple day three picks.
10:56That's just shrapnel.
10:58Really this trade is the Texans going and getting Marvin Harrison Jr.
11:03for their second round pick next year, which, by the way,
11:06if things keep holding up the way they are, it's going to be a high second round pick.
11:09The Texans need to start winning some games so that second round pick isn't,
11:12you know, 37th overall.
11:15So, you know, they need to start winning some games so it's 52nd or 55th overall,
11:19whatever the case may be.
11:20But that trade is official now.
11:22So let's put the game itself today on the back burner for a moment.
11:26And we want to hear from you, by the way.
11:277-1-3-5-7-2-4-6-10.
11:30Again, the trade has been made official.
11:32Adam Schefter reporting, ESPN.com, that the Texans have made the trade official.
11:38They're trading their second round pick and their sixth round pick in the upcoming draft,
11:43in this spring's draft, to the Arizona Cardinals for Marvin Harrison Jr.
11:47and a seventh round pick in the upcoming draft.
11:49My gut reaction to this, Clint Sterner, is I have two gut reactions.
11:53One, it's a sexy name, no doubt about it.
11:55And, you know, it's C.J. Stroud's former teammate.
12:00And we're about to talk to, I think, Jake Hansen on the hotline here.
12:03So we'll get a reaction from an actual Texan to his new teammate.
12:07That is a steep price to pay for a guy who's got five catches and 85 yards this year
12:11and is viewed largely as a disappointment as an NFL player so far.
12:15Yeah, I'm here for it, though, man.
12:17You like it?
12:18I absolutely love it.
12:20But, I mean, a second-round pick, and, you know, we're watching first and second-round picks this year,
12:24you know, need development and, you know, not make plays on special teams, so be inactive.
12:30I'm always – I'm here for this.
12:32I can't wait to dig into it with you.
12:33All right, let's do it.
12:35We'll dig back into that in just a moment.
12:37But before we do that, he had interception today,
12:40and the defense holding the Titans to three points.
12:43It's a pleasure to talk to Texans linebacker Jake Hansen joining us here on Texans postgame here on Texans Radio.
12:50Jake, it's Sean and Clint.
12:51Congratulations on the win.
12:52Congratulations on the pick.
12:54Take us through the pick, man.
12:56Thank you, guys.
12:57I appreciate it.
12:58Our D-line had a hell of a rush and was able to get my hands on the ball
13:03and go get a few yards after.
13:05So it was a really fun play.
13:08Glad to help the team.
13:09What about just in general, Jake?
13:11Jake, I know the big plays and particularly the turnovers haven't come in bunches this year
13:18the way that you guys are used to and expected.
13:21I mean, today is a day where y'all got out there, got some turnovers,
13:24literally put points on the board.
13:26One of them, I think they were already in field goal range.
13:28So just talk a little bit about this defense and how important it is stylistically
13:32for y'all to get turnovers and see that as a result.
13:35I mean, it's what we rely on a lot of times.
13:38Like in the Dallas game, you saw there was three big tip balls that we didn't end up
13:45coming up with.
13:45They end up touching.
13:48So a lot of times if the ball bounces your way, the game looks completely different.
13:51So we fortunately bounced our way today.
13:54And yeah, we're going to keep getting after it and keep punching the ball.
13:58Jake Hansen, Texans linebacker, joining us on the heels of a 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans.
14:05Jake, a lot was made this week, at least in our world, on the outside looking in of
14:10D'Amico Ryan's, Coach Ryan's taking over the play calling duties again from Matt Burke.
14:17And a couple of the guys in their media sessions this week talked about, you know,
14:21Burke did a great job, but it's something about hearing it from the head coach that
14:24maybe is just, you know, a little notch above.
14:27What was that like this week?
14:29I know Aziz was back in there with the green dot on his helmet, but as somebody who was
14:32out there for most of the snaps today, did you feel a difference at all this week and
14:36today with D'Amico calling the formations out there?
14:40I mean, anytime the head ball coach is making all the decisions, there's less communication,
14:47right?
14:47It's coming right from him.
14:48He knows exactly what he wants to be in each call.
14:51So it helped us out.
14:53We were able to like the aggressive play style, play calling, and yeah, it helped us get
14:59a big win today.
15:01Was there a little bit, regardless of who's calling the plays, just from a game plan perspective,
15:06I know watching the game, it seemed like there was what you just mentioned, a little bit
15:10more pressure dialed up than maybe you guys have done in the first month of the season.
15:15Was that the plan going in?
15:16Is that accurate?
15:17What was your thoughts there, this game plan versus previous ones this season?
15:22Yeah, I mean, honestly, I think, I think it just, it's kind of the way, the flow of the
15:29game, right?
15:30Each game's different.
15:31You know, we didn't have, we didn't have the pressure as much in that, in the Dallas game.
15:38So I think when we're able to make more plays and, and execute the play calls that we're
15:43getting, coach, coach Burke and D'Amico are both game planning together and it's a collaborative
15:50effort.
15:51So it's not a huge difference in play calling.
15:54So they both know what we're looking for and what we're trying to do.
15:57But when the head coach is making a call, you know, it's, it's coming directly from
16:00him.
16:01So Jake Hanson joining us.
16:02Hey, Jake, look, we know Aziz Alshair is a great player.
16:05What is it?
16:06What, how, how much does it help you personally playing next to him out there, having Aziz out
16:11there?
16:11Like, what is the, what is the biggest difference for you in having Aziz out there on the field?
16:16I mean, it's just having zero out there is like our field general.
16:20He's, um, uh, very, a great leader, great veteran presence and it's, it's common for
16:25the whole defense.
16:26I think it, it helps us with communication.
16:28I think it helps us just across the board for me.
16:31I know I can trust him to be in the right spot and just, we have a good chemistry of
16:34playing with each other for a few years now.
16:36So being, being with him and playing with him out there is, uh, something you look forward
16:41to.
16:41Well, Hey, how about, how about playing, uh, playing a game where, you know, the other team's
16:45got to drop back and throw it a ton in the second half.
16:48And you guys can pin your ears back.
16:50That had to be a good feeling.
16:52Sorry, I missed you.
16:53What'd you say?
16:53I said, how about, how about playing a game this year where you're, you, you, you had a
16:57little bit of a lead and you know that, that, uh, that opposed, uh, the quarterback was
17:02going to have to sit back there and it was going to be a sitting duck for you guys had
17:04to be good to pin years back and just go, go get after it.
17:07It does.
17:08It does feel good.
17:08The D line can pin their ears back and go get after it.
17:10We know they got to throw the ball down the field and kind of play top down and, and play,
17:15uh, keep everything in front of us and go tackle, go run and hit.
17:18And ball out, breaking the kill zone.
17:19So it's, um, it's, yeah, it's nice to have, let the D line go eat and coverage, play, play
17:26good coverage on the back end.
17:27Hey, Jake, we know you got to get out of there.
17:28Hey, before we let you go before as you, just as you were calling in on the hotline, it's
17:32officially news now.
17:33So we can ask folks from the team about it, but Marvin Harrison Jr.
17:37It looks like according to Adam Schefter is now going to be your teammate.
17:40Uh, you guys made a trade today, today to, to pick him up.
17:43Any reaction to that?
17:45Yeah.
17:46Anytime we can get another playmaker in the building, we, uh, we'll welcome him and hopefully
17:50he can, uh, be productive for us and continue to build on what we're doing on offense.
17:55So we're, we'll welcome him with open arms.
17:57It's right to have him.
17:58There you go.
17:58Jake Hanson, Texans linebacker.
18:00Hey Jake, congrats on the win.
18:01Congrats on the pick.
18:02And, uh, best of luck, uh, safe travels over to London next week.
18:07Thank you guys.
18:08Appreciate it.
18:08All right.
18:08Thanks.
18:09Jake Hanson joining us here on, uh, on Texans post game here on Texans radio.
18:13Um, yeah, that's gotta be interesting.
18:14Like being a linebacker or a defensive back and you know, you're, you're handling all your
18:18responsibilities there in the kill zone and in the secondary back there and the ball
18:23never comes out and you just look up and I'd be like, okay, who got it this time?
18:26Who got it this time?
18:28You're hoping for a deflection or a ball or is it Will Anderson?
18:31Who got him on the ground this time?
18:32Is it Clowney?
18:33Yeah.
18:34Um, yeah.
18:35Will Anderson jr.
18:36Ended up with at least two and a half.
18:38I got to check the box, check the box score to see if he got the old, uh, see if
18:42he got
18:42the old hat trick today.
18:43I know he was in on three sacks in the fourth quarter point of the two sacks, at least two
18:48he had where he was, he was lined up over, over the interior.
18:52Yeah.
18:52He had three sacks.
18:53They gave him a credit for a full three, three sacks, three TFLs today, three QB hits.
18:57I mean, Will Anderson jr.
19:00Is putting up JJ Watt prime JJ Watt type box scores.
19:05Well, what is that through five weeks?
19:06What is that?
19:07It's gotta be eight, nine.
19:08That is three.
19:10It's seven and a half.
19:11I think you have four and a half coming into today.
19:12Okay.
19:13Okay.
19:13I'll add more than that.
19:14Yeah.
19:14That's, I think you have four and a half coming into seven and a half through five.
19:17That's a pretty good pace.
19:18Seven and a half through five.
19:19Yeah.
19:19He had coming into today, he had four, yeah, four, yeah.
19:24Four and a half sacks.
19:25So seven and a half through five games.
19:27Yeah, man.
19:27That's a pretty good pace.
19:28Seven and a half.
19:29Yeah.
19:29That's that.
19:30Well, that's a miles Garrett pace right there.
19:31Yeah.
19:32That's, you know, that is a, that is a miles Garrett.
19:35That's seven and a half through five games is like 25 sacks.
19:39Um, and this is how you do it sometimes, you know, for people who are going to say like,
19:43Oh, well, he got, he got all three of them scores, 26 to three or 19 to three.
19:48And he got all the sacks.
19:49Yeah.
19:49That's how JJ used to, that's how all the, this just in the guys who get 20 sacks have
19:54two or three games where they feast on the bad football team.
19:58Absolutely.
19:59And, and their, their coach keeps them in, in a game that they're up 20 points and you
20:04know that they're going to have to pass the football so that they can go get some sacks.
20:07And that's not, that's part of it.
20:08And by the way, we'll got paid already, man.
20:11So we don't have to worry about like, Oh, is he driving the value?
20:14Like there's people legitimately on the text page right now and you can text the show
20:17seven, one, three, five, seven, two suit, uh, five, seven, two, four, six, 10.
20:21You can call too, by the way, the lines are open.
20:23If you want to call in there, the news is Marvin Harrison jr.
20:26Is a Houston Texan.
20:28So that, and the win over the Titans today.
20:31So you get the first win.
20:32How do you feel about this trade?
20:33Should the Texans be making trades use, you know, using their second round pick next year
20:39to go get a wide receiver.
20:41But what I was going to say is there's already people on the text page.
20:43Like, um, we should pay CJ now, like if he plays all year like this, maybe pay him now.
20:49I don't know.
20:49We'll see.
20:49I think it's all going to, uh, you know, the, the bet, the bet CJ made on himself is going
20:54to be a year long thing.
20:55He's been outstanding so far though.
20:57He has played four and one football.
20:59They're one in four.
21:01He's played four and one football.
21:03I'm going to tell you, he's, he's done what I didn't think he would be able to do in this
21:08system.
21:08Like I thought the setup with CJ Stroud of them, just take ownership and buy in and minimize
21:15risk.
21:16And, you know, I thought, I thought at best that was going to result in a, um, high completion
21:23percentage, you know, you know, not, not a, not a ton of yards, almost like a boring kind
21:28of just under the radar blase blase kind of quarterback performance.
21:32I thought you'd win because of your defense and the offense just wouldn't lose it.
21:36What CJ is doing in this system, whether you're talking about tight window throws, or you're
21:41talking about the lack of turnover worthy throws, or you're talking about just if you
21:46watch this kid play the quarterback position, the throw, you mentioned the touchdown throw
21:50to Jalen Knoll is unbelievable.
21:52And he makes it look so effortless.
21:54The throw on the sideline to, to Kayshawn Booty, unbelievable throw.
21:58He makes it look effortless.
21:59I mean, the, the, the deep, the deep curl route, I think it was a curl.
22:04I don't know exactly how he got to it.
22:05But the TV copy didn't show it, but, but early in the game to Xavier Hutchinson to his left,
22:09they tried to throw the little glance route to Nico Collins.
22:11The defense shifted that way and it covered it up.
22:14So he has, he has a, a, throws a dot to Xavier Hutchinson on a 14 or 16 yard curl
22:20route.
22:20I mean, the, the, what he's doing is, is really putting what typically is extremely difficult
22:26throws.
22:27He's putting it on tape along with the high completion percentage, the, the, the making good
22:33decisions, the protecting the football.
22:35I mean, checking down when he needs to, I mean, like he's checking the football.
22:39And I said this for, for three years with CJ Stroud, when you look at the sack numbers
22:44that, that were, that were just, I mean, loading up on CJ Stroud, I constantly talked about the
22:50offensive play caller and the quarterback, right?
22:52Yes.
22:52The offensive line needs to get better.
22:54No doubt about it.
22:55They always do.
22:56Right.
22:56But, but the quarterback play, the brand of quarterback play, the decision-making, knowing
23:01when to take those risks is, is going to be the quickest way to this quarterback, not getting
23:06hit.
23:06And you watch CJ play.
23:07The most impressive part about the check down stuff is not, okay, I got through my progression.
23:11I checked the ball down.
23:12The most impressive part about CJ Stroud checking the ball down is he's feeling pressure when he
23:18senses that there's a free rusher, or he senses that one of his offensive linemen is slipping
23:23off of somebody, he immediately gets to the check down and avoids a negative play.
23:27Yep.
23:27And, and he, and he's doing that.
23:29I mean, he's a hundred percent clip.
23:31It's not even every now and again, it's, it's, it's crazy.
23:34The clip at which he's right.
23:36Right.
23:36This is a, this is my late person quarterback watching CJ thing too.
23:40Another thing that he feels like he's doing better this year is when the pressure's coming
23:44from the blind side, he's feeling it and moving up.
23:47Like he's, he's, he's, he's maneuvering and it's like he's got a, he's got a shot clock in
23:52his head that he knows, okay, I've been back here for three seconds now and he's finding
23:56space to move and extend the play.
23:58I'm not saying extend the play by, by leaving the, sometimes he does by leaving the pocket.
24:02He did on the Jalen all touchdown throw.
24:04Um, but just even just finding a little extra space within the pocket to then throw a dart
24:09to somebody in an, on an intermediate route or something.
24:12He's got great feel.
24:13He's got great poise right now.
24:15He's setting up pass rushers that he knows are free before he, he bails hard to his back,
24:20you know, the rollout thing.
24:21I mean, he's, he's playing the position unbelievably comfortable right now.
24:25And if you look at Sean, what specifically what you're talking, he's got a, he's got a
24:30sixth sense.
24:30Think about CJ Stroud and, and how much we've watched CJ Stroud in three, three years in
24:35what, five weeks now.
24:36Yep.
24:37And I don't know that I've ever watched a quarterback that was under more pressure.
24:41I'm talking about literal pressure, like, like the defense sacks and quarterback hits.
24:45Has there ever been a moment where CJ Stroud got hit?
24:49Like, like Daniel Hunter hit Cam Ward today where I know it was from behind him, but I
24:54don't think there's, I don't think there's been a moment where CJ Stroud didn't feel, see
24:58or feel the pressure coming where he just, I remember I played with Chad Hutchinson back
25:03in the day and Hutch was big, big, good looking dude and could throw it to the moon and back.
25:06But he was, I watched Dwight Freeney and with the Colts absolutely cut him in half about
25:12seven times and he never felt it.
25:14Yeah.
25:14I was like, damn.
25:15I said, Chad, you don't feel that move, man.
25:17And most quarterbacks have a sixth sense to avoid the knockout punch.
25:21Yeah.
25:21And if you watch CJ Stroud play, he definitely has that sixth sense.
25:25What you're seeing today now, this year is great feel, great patience, super calm.
25:31You're, you're seeing exactly what you want to see from the young quarterback.
25:34Well, and I don't know that that's something, I mean, you, you obviously would know you played
25:37quarterback.
25:38Like that just feels like something you can't teach.
25:40Like there's no, there's no, there's no amount of off season work you can do to, to, to,
25:47to, to get your, your, just your, your sixth sense better.
25:49You either have that or you don't either have it or you don't shine.
25:52I'm going to be honest with you.
25:53I had it and I'm not, I'm not bragging about having it.
25:55I had it because the good Lord told me, boy, if you can't avoid the knockout, you can't
26:00run.
26:00You ain't going to run from nobody.
26:02You can't shake nobody.
26:03So if you can't at least avoid the knockout punch, you ain't got a chance.
26:07Darwinism taught it to you.
26:08Hey Sean, that was about my only, the only good thing about your boy in the pocket was
26:13I could avoid the knockout.
26:14I love that.
26:14I love that.
26:15All right.
26:16Hey, Ben, let's do D'Amico's press conference here.
26:19D'Amico Ryans, who at the end of the press conference confirms the news, Marvin Harrison
26:24Jr.
26:24is on his way to Houston.
26:27He will be a Houston Texan looking to resurrect a career that look coming into the NFL generational
26:33talent was used to describe him coming into the league and he's had an okay first couple
26:38of years.
26:39He's had an abysmal third season and the Cardinals probably the biggest sign that this trade does
26:44come with some certain risk is that the Cardinals are just willing to move on from a guy.
26:48They just use the fourth pick on in the same draft where the Texans took Kamari Lassiter.
26:52So that if you're just, if you're looking for a kind of some context, this to how long
26:56it's been, say, Hey, how long has he been with the Cardinals?
26:58How long has Kamari Lassiter been a Houston Texan?
27:00That's the amount of time.
27:01It was the 2024 draft where Marvin Harrison was the fourth overall pick in that draft.
27:07He was the first non-quarterback taken in that draft.
27:09It went Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, Drake May, Marvin Harrison Jr.
27:14So he was viewed in that draft as the best non-quarterback in that draft.
27:19He's now a Houston Texan.
27:21So definitely want your thoughts on that.
27:23Here is D'Amico Ryan's press conference.
27:25Here was the Texans head coach following today's win.
27:28He's brought to you by 1800 Tequila, the official tequila of the Houston Texans.
27:32Feels good to get a win finally, but just thankful, all glory and honor for me just goes to our
27:38Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
27:40Our faith has stayed, our God has stayed the course.
27:43It's been difficult the first couple weeks of the season, but proud of the guys.
27:47It's how everyone kept believing, kept the faith, and everybody kept pushing.
27:50And today is a great example of when we play complementary football, all three phases working
27:55together, that's the type of team that we can be.
27:57What do you feel like was the difference in you guys playing a lot better at a higher level
28:03than previously?
28:04It was just our execution.
28:05We executed really well.
28:07We controlled the game.
28:08Offensively, they did an outstanding job of driving the football down.
28:11In the first half, we got stalled out in the red zone a couple times by self-inflicting
28:16penalties, but we were able to kick field goals, put points on the board.
28:19Amy did a really nice job there.
28:21And then the second half is where we've struggled as a team, felt like collectively we came out
28:25in the second half and we finished the game really well.
28:27Team win, but what do you feel about C.J. Stroud and how do we need to bring a good
28:32job?
28:33C.J. did an outstanding job of just making play after play when we needed it.
28:38He was dealing.
28:40He was throwing the ball at everyone who was open, making really great decisions with the
28:44football, and able to get him a rushing touchdown in there as well.
28:49So he's been doing a great job all year, so I'm thankful to be able to celebrate him at
28:55this time.
28:56He's been leading our offense really well, and he's very deserving of everything.
29:00How do you feel like the defense responded to the new common plays today?
29:04The defense did an outstanding job today, taking the football away.
29:10Jake Hanson did a great job taking the ball.
29:13Dom Robinson got one out.
29:14We were able to recover the fumble.
29:16Our D-line, I mean, they got after it when we needed them to.
29:20They put a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks.
29:22Our players did an outstanding job today.
29:24Will Anderson, you're in your pre-sack performance and play game.
29:28Created a lot of conflict for Cam Ward.
29:32Will is, he is our guy.
29:34I like to see what he's able to do every week.
29:37The guy is a tenacious player, relentless every single snap.
29:41And, I mean, there's no better competitor, no better person than Will Anderson.
29:45So, to see him go out and dominate the game by getting three sacks, it's just an outstanding
29:50performance by him.
29:51Amico, specifically with Will, you're moving him around quite a bit to create these matchups.
29:56Why is that so effective, and what is it about his traits that allow you to move him like that?
30:01The first thing with Will is he's a very smart player who can pick up on a lot of different
30:06things we're trying to do.
30:07We have to change the picture for the offensive line as best as we can.
30:10And, you know, you have a guy who can rush well in the interior, on guards, also over
30:15a center, but on the edge as well.
30:17So, we can put him anywhere.
30:19He's always up for the challenge.
30:20And the D-line loves when they can stand up and move around and make plays on the inside.
30:24So, he's doing a great job of trying to eliminate him from getting chipped on the edge so much.
30:28So, he's doing a great job of executing those things we have for him inside.
30:32What, if anything, do you hope in this win and the type of win that you guys need to do?
30:39We're thankful right now to get our first win.
30:42It's been a long time coming.
30:43Our guys, they poured in the work, and they came out, and the work showed itself again on game day.
30:49So, we just have to keep that formula.
30:50Everybody just stay humble, keep working the way we're working.
30:54We'll be just fine.
30:55Nico, what do you think he's hustled out with a lot of trade speculation, as there always is every year
31:00in the league,
31:01but especially, particularly about Rodriguez Jr., who is a cardinalized hook right now?
31:05Right now, I'm happy we got our first win versus the Titans.
31:09Looking at you, and you look at the film, you need to see how your defensive backs were able to
31:16play this week.
31:17I know we talk a lot about press coverage, but does the pressure from the defensive line also help when
31:24the defensive backs are playing golf like that?
31:26Defensive football always works together.
31:28To me, it's a beautiful puzzle, and when it's put together the proper way with the D-line, harassing the
31:33quarterback, speeding him up,
31:35it allows our coverage guys to have a little bit more freedom.
31:39Whether we're pressing, whether we're off, that doesn't matter.
31:41D-line, apply pressure, back-end guys, communicate well, be where we're supposed to be, and make the plays you're
31:47supposed to make.
31:48Defensive football looks really beautiful when it's done that way.
31:51Does it also help to have Aziz back in the lineup?
31:54No doubt about it.
31:55Aziz is our field general.
31:57He's our communicator.
31:59He's the man in the middle.
32:01When we got a guy, they're on the ball, they're moving fast.
32:04Aziz communicates really well, and he's able to tackle well in the middle, make the plays he needs to make.
32:09So really happy to have Aziz back.
32:11Offensive line.
32:28Her offense has improved a lot, starting with Kaylee and what he's done with the offense, being able to mix
32:35it up a lot.
32:35He's done a really good job of that, but also go to CJ.
32:39I mean, the way he's just more comfortable in what we're doing year two now, you see his comfort level,
32:45you see his confidence, you see his command, and it shows.
32:49He's not afraid of any situation.
32:52He's doing a great job of communicating at the line of scrimmage, and we need to get to the right
32:57play.
32:57He can get us into the right play, and everybody around him is playing better well as well.
33:01Danico, aside from Tank coming back, are you all still hoping to add to the wide receiver?
33:06Say it one more time.
33:07Aside from Tank potentially coming back, are you all still hoping to add to the wide receiver?
33:11Yeah, man, we're happy to see Tank back out on the field practicing.
33:14So we'll see how his week continues to progress, and everybody, I know I'm eager and hopeful for Tank to
33:21get back out in the game, actually.
33:22One player that has been talked about a lot over the first four weeks was Reed Blankenship in the way
33:29that he's been playing.
33:30What have you seen from him over these last two weeks, and especially from the way he's able to play
33:34today?
33:35Reed, he's always done a great job of tackling.
33:38I think Reed is feeling more comfortable with what we're asking him to do in coverage, and therefore he's able
33:42to make some plays.
33:43But I just love the physical style which Reed plays with, and he's continuing to get better.
33:47All those guys are working well together, and we'll see how we continue to improve as a defense as we
33:52keep rolling through the season.
33:53The offensive line, they took their lumps and they had their ups and downs this season, but was this one
33:58of their better games?
34:00Yeah, O-line did a really nice job.
34:01I know the stats probably don't show up, but I thought our run game was really well today.
34:05We got a couple big runs called back, but the O-line battle, they did a good job.
34:10We got, I think, only one sack that we gave up there, but overall, those guys have been battling.
34:16They've done an outstanding job.
34:17I know it's early, but do you have any updates on David Montgomery and David Petrie?
34:22David, we're still evaluating him.
34:24He has a growing injury, may miss some time.
34:26And then with Petrie, we're still looking at his shoulder to see how significant that injury may be.
34:31Just to follow up on Mr. Aaron's question earlier, there has been a lot of rumors circulating that you guys
34:38are in trade spending with Marvin Harrison's money taxes,
34:41and how much of that is true, and, yeah, how much of that is true.
34:50You guys wanted to know, huh?
34:53Yes.
34:53All right.
34:54We trade for Marvin Harrison.
34:55See ya.
34:59Wow.
35:01That's one way to get it out there.
35:02You trade it for Marvin Harrison.
35:03You know that that's good.
35:05If that just gets transcribed somewhere, it's going to get construed by some aggregator out there.
35:10D'Amico Ryans doesn't want Marvin Harrison Jr.
35:14D'Amico Ryans' reaction to Marvin Harrison Jr. trade, oh, we got Marvin Harrison?
35:19See ya.
35:21Stormed off the dais.
35:22I have no idea if he stormed off or not.
35:23I've only heard the press conference.
35:25I didn't get to see it.
35:27So, that was D'Amico Ryans.
35:29Feel good for D'Amico.
35:30You can just tell in his voice to be able to have a post-game press conference after a win
35:36just feels really good, I would imagine.
35:39And if you missed it, yes, Marvin Harrison Jr. is a Houston Texan.
35:43The trade has been consummated.
35:45So, I would say, you know, it's like this has been a very newsworthy day for the Texans, really starting
35:52with the London game today.
35:53I mean, Jacksonville stole one from the Eagles today.
35:56If the Eagles are just able to hold on to, when I say a late lead, I mean seven seconds
36:01left, one game lead, one, one, seven, seven seconds left, one point lead.
36:08And the Eagles are kicking off to the Jaguars.
36:12And the Eagles found a way to lose that game.
36:14Incredible.
36:15And so, the Jags would have been one game closer to the Texans if the Eagles had been able to
36:19do you a favor.
36:20And then comes the Texans win, and now the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade.
36:23So, we've got a lot to get into.
36:24Yeah, a lot to get into.
36:25The Eagles not kicking that ball through the end zone in that situation, by the way, is a…
36:30Malpractice.
36:31I mean, I'm not going to say Fire Bowl offense because my man, he's won some games over there.
36:35But, boy, that is criminal for damn sure.
36:38Yeah, yeah.
36:39He's about as shaky a Super Bowl-winning coach as there is out there, though.
36:43Like, I listen in on some Philadelphia radio, and it is a very, very love-hate relationship with him.
36:49Yeah, look, he is a guy that he, I think he generates more negative press for himself by the way
36:55that he acts
36:56and really his personality and kind of how he handles people.
36:59I do wonder, inside that building, given how much they've won under him,
37:03how much of any of that is reality, like behind closed doors, you know.
37:08He makes it easy for everybody to dislike or be negative, have a negative story.
37:12Hell, he gives you a lot of negative stories.
37:16But needless to say, this is definitely one where behind those closed doors,
37:20they've got to be asking, how in the hell did that happen?
37:22How did we lose this game?
37:23I want to get one phone call in here before we hit the top of the hour,
37:26because this is, Jack is on a mobile, and he is leaving Nissan Stadium.
37:30I think, Jack, are you still leaving the stadium right now?
37:32How are you doing?
37:35We turn Jack up?
37:36Is he still there?
37:38Jack.
37:39I am here.
37:40I'm here.
37:40I'm here.
37:40I'm here.
37:41I'm sorry.
37:42No problem.
37:42We are here.
37:43Hey, we just got in the car.
37:45We're leaving the stadium.
37:46We're excited.
37:48The crowd is, it was a very light crowd at the stadium.
37:51Not a good turnout at all, understandably so.
37:55We're excited.
37:57Too many field goals.
37:59I'm not going to poo-poo on the, I'm not going to curse.
38:02Sean, don't worry about it.
38:02Okay, good.
38:03Good.
38:03Thanks, Jack.
38:04I'm not going to do that.
38:04Jack's a loyal listener, I can tell.
38:06Yeah, I'm not going to do you like that, man.
38:08But I don't know.
38:12My son and I were watching the game.
38:14My wife is here with us.
38:15I'm thinking to myself, how in the world did we get this offensive coordinator?
38:20How in the world did this guy become an offensive coordinator?
38:25Because we have so much talent.
38:28I'm disappointed because I think he's got Montgomery not wanting to play right now.
38:35He may be hurt, but his body language is, he's very frustrated with this offense.
38:41The offensive line, I don't know what's going on.
38:47Clint, you can tell me this.
38:48When they're looking, and you too, Sean, when you're looking for players, do you look at strength?
38:54Like, can you move the man or is it technique?
38:57Because our guys just cannot move people.
39:01And I'm just wondering how are we selecting our offensive linemen?
39:05Is it a strength thing?
39:07Because our guys just are moving, but I'm excited.
39:11CJ's playing really well.
39:12I hope they give him his money.
39:15I think we have a bright future.
39:17Marvin Harrison Jr. is going to be a great addition.
39:20Bring a tank back.
39:21Hopefully he can take the top off of the offense.
39:23But we're going to be all right.
39:25One game at a time.
39:26One game at a time.
39:28Yeah.
39:28Yeah.
39:29Jack, we appreciate that.
39:30Well, Clint, do you want to answer his question about the offensive linemen?
39:32Yeah, I don't, I mean, look, one-on-one in the NFL, there's just very few offensive linemen
39:38that are going to move defensive linemen one-on-one, regardless of who's coaching them,
39:42what technique you're using, what scheme you're using.
39:44You're not going to get a ton of movement.
39:45That becomes more of almost a screening-type situation.
39:48I think the most frustrating part, which you see, and I see it as well with the Texans,
39:52is their double teams are non-existent.
39:56It appears that they're coached in a way of just, hey, man, just like today, early in the game,
40:02I about blew my lid in the first drive.
40:04I think it was the first play call, where I think it was Ingram leaves Evan Brown with
40:09Simmons in a shade to the play call, and he leaves him and goes to the second level instead
40:15of banging a little bit of a double team right there, at least helping you potting out.
40:19They just don't do it, and it looks like they're being coached to execute that way,
40:24and I just don't get it, man.
40:26I can't wrap my head around it.
40:28It is frustrating.
40:29All right.
40:30Well, thank you, guys.
40:31You're doing great, and we appreciate you guys.
40:33H-Town rocks.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Jack, we appreciate the phone call.
40:36Glad you survived all those toothless hillbillies in Nashville.
40:39Way to go, Jack.
40:40All right.
40:41And the ones with teeth also.
40:43I just want to make sure equal opportunity, dentite I am.
40:47All right.
