00:00The weirdest religion in history is not thousands of years old. It started in the 1960s.
00:07On a small island called Tana in Vanuatu in the South Pacific, an entire village worshipped Prince
00:15Philip. Yes, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. It started when tribesmen heard an old legend about
00:23the pale sun of their mountain god, who would travel across the sea, marry a powerful woman,
00:28and return one day. When they saw photos of the Queen and her husband, it clicked. That was him.
00:36But the moment that sealed it was 1974. The royal yacht Britannia sailed past the islands. A few
00:44chiefs actually saw Prince Philip from a distance and saw the respect everyone gave him. To them,
00:50that was proof. He was a god. When Prince Philip found out, he didn't say no. He sent them a
00:58signed official portrait. They sent him a traditional war club. He even posed holding
01:04it at Buckingham Palace and sent that photo back to them. The religion is still active today. When
01:11he died in 2021, the village held mourning rituals because they believe his spirit has finally returned
01:17home to Tana.
