00:00That's Chakin with Rochelle for tonight's weather forecast.
00:03Thanks, Nisha. Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
00:06So much to talk about, so let's get right to it.
00:08There's a major update in the Atlantic tonight.
00:12Ezias has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane,
00:15becoming the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season.
00:19And it's now moving across the Gulf of Mexico toward the U.S. Gulf Coast.
00:23Further strengthening is possible before landfall late Friday into early Saturday,
00:28with dangerous storms surge, strong winds, high rainfall, flooding,
00:33and possible tornadoes among the main threats.
00:35Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi are among the areas at risk,
00:39with authorities issuing evacuation orders, closing airports, and declaring states of emergency.
00:46Ezias also ties the record for the latest first hurricane of an Atlantic season,
00:51previously set in 1905.
00:53For us here in Trinidad and Tobago, Ezias poses no direct threat.
00:58But here's what we will get right here at home tonight.
01:01Mostly fair conditions over Trinidad.
01:04But from extreme northeast of Trinidad, Tobago, and the Windward Islands,
01:09partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected,
01:12with light and moderate showers.
01:13So some of you may get a cozier sleep than others.
01:17Minimum temperatures will drop to 26 degrees in both islands.
01:21Now, tomorrow, we will see more cloud cover and experience cooler conditions.
01:26So thank God for that.
01:28The Met Office says Friday will be cloudy at times,
01:31with showers over varying areas.
01:33That has a medium to high chance to produce heavy showers or thunderstorms,
01:38especially over western Trinidad.
01:40And that's between late morning to afternoon.
01:42So it looks like we will get that break from the heat after all.
01:46Daytime temperatures will reach up to 33 degrees in Trinidad and 32 in Tobago.
01:53But the good news doesn't end there.
01:55More comfortable weather is on the way for the weekend.
01:58We will start off cloudy with some showers and a high chance of thunderstorms before sunrise.
02:04Conditions should ease by mid-morning into noon with mostly fair skies.
02:08But by afternoon, look out for more cloud cover, showers, and a high chance of thunderstorms
02:15before things settle again into a mostly fair evening.
02:19So good weather to stay in and watch a good movie.
02:22Let's take a look at our sun times now.
02:24In Trinidad, sun rises at 5.54 and 5.51 in Tobago.
02:28And sunset at 5.51 in Trinidad and 5.48 in Tobago.
02:33And if your Friday celebrations will take place at the beach, sea conditions will be slight to moderate
02:39with waves from 1 meter to 1.5 meters in open waters and 1 meter choppy near showers in sheltered
02:46areas.
02:46It's now time for your tide times.
02:53Now it's Thursday, so it's about that time where I make you think.
02:58Here's a multiple choice.
02:59What does a barometer measure?
03:02Is it A, wind speed, B, temperature, C, air pressure, or D, humidity?
03:06With no time on the clock, the answer is C, air pressure.
03:12A barometer measures the pressure of the air around us.
03:15Meteorologists use changes in air pressure to help track weather conditions.
03:20Falling pressure can signal more unsettled weather like clouds, wind, rain, or storms.
03:26While rising pressure often points to more stable conditions,
03:29so clearer skies and calm conditions.
03:32Well, that's all for weather tonight.
03:34Stay tuned for sports.
03:36We'll see you next time.
03:37We'll see you next time.
