00:00Prime Minister Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia will do everything possible to support Myanmar's full reintegration into ASEAN and
00:08strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
00:11Anwar made the remarks during Myanmar leader Min Anline's two-day visit to Malaysia, his first since taking power in
00:182021.
00:20Min seized power in a military coup in 2021 and became president in April following elections widely dismissed by Western
00:29nations and rights groups as a sham.
00:32ASEAN later barred him and other senior Myanmar officials from its summits after they failed to implement a regional peace
00:40plan.
00:40Anwar acknowledged concerns about Myanmar's democratic processes but said differences must be respected and described his counterpart as open to
00:49discussion and willing to cooperate.
00:51You have been very, not only candid, but you have been very willing to accommodate and listen to views and
01:00make the necessary adjustments.
01:02And with this visit, Mr. President, I would say that we and our part in Malaysia will do whatever is
01:10possible to make sure that we enhance this collaboration
01:14and ultimately take Myanmar as part of our community of nations without prejudice and particularly in the context of ASEAN.
01:27Malaysia joins Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in supporting closer engagement with Myanmar as NAPEDOR seeks to restore its full
01:35participation in ASEAN.
01:38Min has also visited those four countries since becoming president as part of his efforts to strengthen regional ties and
01:46gain international recognition.
